Top-of-the-line in every respect.

The Collection Classical Guitar from Canadian guitar maker La Patrie has a solid cedar top. Also features solid Indian rosewood back and sides, mahogany neck with arosewood fretboard, rosewood bridge with a compensated saddle, 2-tone gold and black "lyra" style tuner with buttons, and a semi-gloss satin finish.

The Collection guitar combines Indian rosewood back and sides-in this case the back is solid rosewood-with a luthier-grade solid cedar top and high gloss lacquer finish. Built by our most experienced luthiers in the Godin acoustic studio, this La Patrie guitar has a beautifully understated appearance that's perfectly complimented by the Collection's exquisite sound and feel.

800 Year Old Trees

All La Patrie guitars feature solid cedar tops. The wood used in these tops can be found only in cedar trees that have an average age of about 800 years. The tight, straight grain in this wood makes it strong in the direction of the string tension while at the same time flexible across the grain lines. It is this combination of rigidity and flexibility that give the top its resonance. The vibration of the guitar top is the most crucial element of the sound.

Lacquer Finish

LaPatrie guitars are finished with a special lacquer formula. This finish is light enough to allow the wood to breath and vibrate freely. The tops resonating capacity actually improves as the guitar is played over an extended period of time. This gradual improvement in the response of the top is often referred to as "aging". Poly finishes inhibit top vibration and are therefore never used on LaPatrie guitars. Many other guitars use a thick plastic finish that smothers top vibration and prevents the benefits of aging.

Classics that are comfortable to play

Classical guitars of the past have typically been made with thick neck dimensions, while this promoted a certain amount of neck stability, it often made certain playing aspects difficult to execute. It is for this reason that special attention was directed to the neck design of the LaPatrie guitars. Neck width and string spacing conform to classical standards, but a new truss rod system allows the profile of the neck to be reduced producing a neck of extraordinary comfort, while increasing stability. The LaPatrie necks are carved from Honduras mahogany. All LaPatrie models feature a rosewood fingerboard and bridge. Case sold separately.

Excellent playability!!!

Comments about La Patrie Collection Classical Guitar:

I bought one a couple of years ago and installed a piezo and preamp. The sound is amazing, one of my favorite guitars I own. The neck feels great in my hands and its a beauty. But be careful with the finish, it will chip away easily if not taken real good care, that means no picks and hard case.

Comments about La Patrie Collection Classical Guitar:

Considering the quality and value, LaPatrie Collection is a very good classical guitar. LaPatrie Collection is the highest-end model (among the models without electronics) in the LaPatrie line of guitars. It has a solid cedar top and solid rosewood back and sides. The sound is pure and natural. LaPatrie Concert, which has solid mahogany back and sides, may sound a bit darker/deeper.

One thing that I want to comment is that the fretboard design of this guitar is quite different from that of a more "traditional" classical guitar. It is narrower at the nut (50.8 mm, as opposed to the usual 52.0 mm) and is quite a bit narrower at the neck/body joint. Further, the surface of the fretboard is arched (with 24" radius, as opposed to the usual flat surface). If you switch between this guitar and a traditional one, you will see/feel a clear difference (to me, this is just a difference, and I have no complaint).

LaPatrie guitars are made in Canada. They are manufactured by the same company who makes Godin, Seagull, Simon & Patrick, Norman, and Art & Lutherie brands of guitars.

Comments about La Patrie Collection Classical Guitar:

If you're in the market for an outstanding nylon-string classical, you cannot beat the La Patrie Collection! And, of course, you don't have to play just classical on this guitar - it's an outstanding acoustic guitar for any style! Finger pickers will love it! Such a warm, resonant acoustic sound that is quite different from a steel-string flat top, so you steel-stringers out there may want to buy this just for its different, beautiful tone. As an aside, I like to check out the customer service of any new brand I deal with, and I must say that La Patrie's (Godin) customer service is first rate. I emailed two or three times w questions and concerns, and every email was answered the same day, usually within and hour or two! When was the last time you experienced that level of customer service!? Lastly, I must acknowledge MF's customer service, as well. They have really stepped up their game here!
Simply a beautiful nylon-string classical guitar, in looks, tone and quality. The solid rosewood and solid cedar combination is an excellent match visually and aurally, and can be found on the highest-priced classical guitars.
First rate quality all around. La Patrie (Godin) really has a winner here! Quality control is outstanding. The easiest way to put it is that this guitar is perfect in every way (or as close to perfect as you're gonna get). The fit, finish, action, intonation, tone (oh, what a marvelous, deep, balanced, ringing, resonant tone that vibrates the beautiful solid tonewoods, such that you can feel it!), just everything is truly outstanding!
The value is perhaps the most outstanding thing about this beautiful La Patrie Collection! Other reviewers have said that it is worth twice the price - I've been playing all types and brands (acoustic and electric) of guitar for 48 years now, and I'd go so far as to say that you will not find a better nylon-string classical at three to five times the price! This is, easily, the best classical guitar on this site, and the unbelievable price just makes it so much sweeter.

rich mid range wet sound

By burntdinner

from Sierra City Ca.

Comments about La Patrie Collection Classical Guitar:

very nice for a barely used rosewood classic from mus friend. I prefer the La Patrie satin finish to this gloss, the satin is thinner open and gives a dryer sound from the cedar. The solid rosewood back adds to the darker sound it has. Hence you get good bass, mid range but this guitars highs really suffer. It is a wonderful instrument. The neck is fine, I re-carved mine only because I prefer an assemetrical shape weighted to the bass side. This is the best buy classic on this site!

Used La Patire Etude

By 6string-pAyzz

Comments about La Patrie Collection Classical Guitar:

Bought this guitar used today; always played older Yamaha Classicals because they were good guitars for the money. I think the La Patrie's are even better, especially compared to new lower priced Yamaha's. Love the feel of this guitar when playing it -- it's one of those guitars that keeps calling you to pick it up and play. Very simple and attractive looking guitar, no nonsense -- a quality dissapearing fast in the guitar world.

Great Guitar

By Mike-fAH_3

Comments about La Patrie Collection Classical Guitar:

I bought a used 2002 model for $325 recently and it is wonderful. If I had $600 to spend I would buy a used instrument because I know what to look for and how to repair most anything, but if you don't know what to look for in a used instrument you can't go wrong with buying one of these new. In response to Hondo; I suspect that you're used to steel string acoustics which is why you think the action is 2-3 times higher than it should be, having the action 2-3 times higher than it should be on a classical seems near impossible unless there is some significant warpage going on.Anyway, everyone else is right, this is a wonderful guitar, I had a takamine of the same value before this and this one is significantly better, the takamine was a great guitar too, but that just shows you how good this one is.

Too High Action

Comments about La Patrie Collection Classical Guitar:

The sound of this instrument was merely OK at best. All the positive reviews startle me after my experience. Beautiful in workmanship, but the action measured 2-3 times higher than should be. No excuse for this. I wanted a guitar that has a wide nut and sounds great. I am sending this back, and will be purchasing a Seagull.

Best in class

Ask me a question

Comments about La Patrie Collection Classical Guitar:

The collection is made of solid rosewood, has a solid honduran mohagany neck, and a nitrocellulose laquer finnish. You WILL NOT find those features all together(or even one of those features) in any other classical at this price. no way ,no how. not even used.class class class. Its built just a little bit like a 00 or a "folk" guitar, it has a a dovetail neck joint and round half deep heel, and a truss rod in the neck. those features are not usually found on "spanish" style guitars. I approve 100 % .It feels better and you can straighten the neck if you ever have to. i doubt you will ever have to.Its made in canada in the Godin acoustic shop. too good to be true, but it is. Looking for a good classical on a budget? there is none better. This is "pro" for "student" dollars, buy one of these.
