OVERVIEW

A solid cedar top and mahogany body give this beauty singing tone.

The La Patrie Concert Classical Guitar has a solid cedar top and solid mahogany back and sides. Also features mahogany neck with rosewood fretboard, rosewood bridge with compensated saddle, gold "lyra" style tuners with pearloid buttons, and semi-gloss satin finish. The Concert guitar is La Patrie's top-of-the-line of the mahogany/cedar models. The Concert receives eight coats of lacquer that are buffed down to a highly responsive high gloss finish. This special process takes eight days to complete.

800-Year Old Trees
All LaPatrie guitars feature solid cedar tops. The wood used in these tops can be found only in cedar trees that have an average age of about 800 years. The tight, straight grain in this wood makes it strong in the direction of the string tension while at the same time flexible across the grain lines. It is this combination of rigidity and flexibility that give the guitar top its resonance. The vibration of the guitar top is the most crucial element of its sound.

Lacquer Finish
LaPatrie guitars are finished with a special lacquer formula. This finish is light enough to allow the wood to breath and vibrate freely. The tops resonating capacity actually improves as the guitar is played over an extended period of time. This gradual improvement in the response of the top is often referred to as "aging". Poly finishes inhibit top vibration and are therefore never used on LaPatrie guitars. Many other guitars use a thick plastic finish that smothers top vibration and prevents the benefits of aging.

Classics that are comfortable to play
Classical guitars of the past have typically been made with thick neck dimensions, while this promoted a certain amount of neck stability, it often made certain playing aspects difficult to execute. It is for this reason that special attention was directed to the neck design of the LaPatrie guitars. Neck width and string spacing conform to classical standards, but a new truss rod system allows the profile of the neck to be reduced producing a neck of extraordinary comfort, while increasing stability. The LaPatrie necks are carved from Honduras mahogany. All LaPatrie models feature a rosewood fingerboard and bridge. Case sold separately.

Really nice fairly priced classical guitar.

Comments about La Patrie Concert Classical Guitar:

I have been playing only steel string guitars for years. I got this guitar a a very good price (not at MF) but did not use immediately it because of the wider neck than I was used to. This summer I decided to learn to use the wider neck or sell the guitar. In the four months I have been using the guitar, it has been my goto guitar for rehearsal. Without an amp it has plenty of volume. The bass is rich and the treble strings are loud enough with a very pleasing, rounded sound. Before I started using it, I checked around and decided to re-string it with La Bella 2001 medium tension classical guitar strings. The new strings were a tremendous improvement over the original strings. More experienced players may have better suggestions, but I really like the sound of this guitar and play it every day. I am about half way through eh Giuliani right hand exercises (the exercises have really improved by steel-string guitar and banjo playing) and use the guitar regularly to help memorize the chords for songs I am learning to play on my horns.

Comments about La Patrie Concert Classical Guitar:

The La Patrie concert is immaculate in construction. Absolutely flawless, and the rosette is beautiful too. A different brand would probably sell this instrument for twice or thrice the price. It's not the type of guitar I'd imagine the classical purists would enjoy though. It has a very mellow, laid back, bassy tone and the trebles are very weak. That's not necessarily a bad thing, as tone is a matter of personal taste. And I love the tone of this guitar. It suits my playing. It may not suit yours. The slim neck profile again is a matter of personal preference. Coupled with the radiused fret board, it makes the guitar very comfortable to play, but the classical purist might not care much for those features. Also, the guitar is not very loud, and doesn't project particularly well. I think steel string players looking for a different tone and feel would really appreciate this guitar. I use it primarily to play jazz chord melody arrangements and comping rhythms.

The La Patrie Concert really shines in more intimate settings and small jams. It's super fun to play, and makes a great beater guitar to back up your more expensive (OVER PRICED) instruments. It's definitely not a cheap guitar, but it's A LOT of guitar for the money when compared to other brands. I'd recommend this guitar to anyone looking for a warm, laid back, groovy sound.

Comments about La Patrie Concert Classical Guitar:

I'm an intermediate guitarist and have been playing since the 60s. This is my first quality classical guitar. The build, fit and, finish is excellent. Tonal response and playability is very good for an instrument in this price range. I like to play a variety of styles with an emphasis in blues. I have a Gibson E335, Fender Strat, Fender Tele, Epiphone SG, and Epiphone Les Paul. This would be a great guitar for a beginner to intermediate player wanting to play classical.

Comments about La Patrie Concert Classical Guitar:

Very nice build and finish. Solid wood all around. Sounds good. I preferred the sound over other brands in the same price range. Fingerboard has radius (not flat) if that matters to you. Out of the box it is playable but should really be properly set up, especially the neck adjustment.
You might want the electronics if you are going to perform. That is the only thing I wish I had on it.

Comments about La Patrie Concert Classical Guitar:

I bought this guitar as a replacement for the one my dad got back in the 60's. He gave that one to me and I started playing at 11. This guitar was my best friend (we moved quite often so I had no friends and was homeschooled) for the next 20 odd years. I took it everywhere. When my life fell apart and I had no one, that guitar was there for me, comforting me with its beautiful tone and familiarity. 4 or 5 years ago, after a wonderful trip to the beach off the Florida panhandle with my now wife, I leaned this guitar, my best friend since childhood against the side of my suv whilea I put away our chairs in the back... Tragically I forgot it was there, got in and backed up cutting my wheel hard running over the guitar that had provided me with so much enjoyment in my lonely life. I still have its broken body in a gig bag with no plans to discard it. Ever.

This la Patrie Concert plays better and is immaculately flawless and somehow the rone is similar as well! This is surprising because my dads guitar had a very unique tone. Almost as if it had its own built in chorus/reverb. The nothing can ever replace it, this guitar is closer to home then I would have ever imagined. Good job and thank you La Patrie, gGodin

            La Patrie Concert

            By Chris Greene

            from USA

Comments about La Patrie Concert Classical Guitar:

I decided to get another classical for Bossa Nova after not owning one for abour 20 years. Takes some getting used to with the wide neck. The neck also has a flat profile which is different than some classicals I've played. Takes a bit of adaptation and getting used to but it's very playable.

Tone is quite decent but I don't much care for the strings Godin uses and will experiment with some different types. I'd read on the net that some people thought the Concert was jangly and trebly but I don't get that whatsoever. It's quite mellow.
Solid cedar top and solid mahogany sides and back for a great price is hard to beat.
Really an amazingly well made guitar for the money. Fit and finish is very good. A couple small areas on the binding where some faint stain marks show.
Considering this guitar is made in a modern facility in Quebec by Canadians and not in China, the value is unbeatable.

Comments about La Patrie Concert Classical Guitar:

I verified with LaPatrie customer service that after 2010 this guitar is made with solid Mahogany sides and backs.
The LaPatrie Concerts made after 2010 are made with solid Mahogany sides and backs, making this an even better value in my opinion.
