I have been playing guitar for 18 years. My seven year old daughter started showing interest and was saying that she wanted to learn to play guitar. Knowing that children sometimes start and quit fast I did not want to spend 400-500 on a 3/4 Martin or Taylor, but I also didn't want to buy her a junko guitar that might dampen her interest because of bad sound and playability. I started doing a little research and after a couple of days I decided to purchase the Laguna LD-1 Little brat. I went on acousticguitarforum.c and members that owned this gutar were overwhelmingly positive about how great this little guitar was for the price. I decided to order one in. I have to be completely honest, the guitar was absolutetly horrible. The finish was bad with glue showing around the neck, rough edges, little dings and horribly stained. I played it, and the sound was abysmal as well. A matchbox might've sounded better. I could not believe that this guitar was getting such glowing reviews. I honestly started wondering if MF sent me a used B-stock guitar by mistake or something. Needless to say I was not impressed. I went back on the forums and told some of the members what I received and told them I was sending it back. They could not believe it. I decided maybe I just recieved a bad junker. I decided to give Laguna one more shot. About six days later after sending in the first one I recieved another Laguna LD-1. All I can say is NIGHT & DAY difference. The finish was very good, the setup was great right out of the box and it had amazing tone and sustain for such a little guitar. I was glad I gave the Little Brat one more shot. The difference between the second guitar and the first one was insane. It was like they came off of two different production lines. This guitar is so nice that if my daughter decides not to stick with guitar, I am keeping it for a great travel / camping / couch guitar. It really is an amazing 3/4 guitar and not an embarrasment sitting by my way more expensive guitars. I got this at a great sale price and honestly after playing it, I don't see any reason at all to pay much more fot the 3/4 Taylors or Martins. If it wasn't for the logo I bet most guitarist wouldn't know the difference. Great job Laguna.....just watch that production line!...somebody needed fired for the first one.

I couldn't live with it, that's for sure.
After reading many favorable reviews I expected a pretty nice 3/4 size guitar. Unfortunately my experience was not too good. The guitar seems well made, and has nice tuners, but I found it to be ugly and really tinny sounding. So OK, here's my review... first thing I noticed out of the box was the finish... I prefer glossy, and this was satin, with very rough and unfinished looking wood. In addition, there is a big bulge in the back that you really can't see in the photos... but it looks really ugly and makes the guitar a bit awkward to handle. I guess it's supposed to enhance the tone, and along with the solid top I did expect some decent sound, but sadly the guitar sounds amazingly thin, tinny and just plain awful. It has D'Addario EXP's (bronze I think) which are very good strings that I use all the time, so I know what they are supposed to sound like, and on this guitar it's just pityful. One final issue I had was the strap button. I always use Schaller strap locks, and I knew there was no top button, but I thought "that's OK, I'll just drill a little hole in the heel and put one on". So the unexpected show-stopper was the bottom button... no screw folks, it's a big plastic bridge pin pounded into a 1/2 inch hole in the body. Ugly, too big to use as a strap button, and no way to attach my Schaller button. After all this, I said enough's enough and called MF for a return shipping label.
Solidly built but poorly finished and no proper strap buttons.
It sounds bad, so I'd call it a bad value no matter how cheap the price may be.

    A REAL guitar!

Comments about Laguna LD Series LD1 Little Brat 3/4 Acoustic Guitar:

Wow! I wanted a travel guitar for years but shied away from them because they just didn't play or sound like a real guitar. Well, I had to buy one (or strap my custom made parlor to a kayak) and I took a chance on the Laguna LD1 and I have to say I couldn't be more pleased! The action was excellent right out of the box, intonation is good and I was pleasantly surprised by its 'voice'. Great sustain! And this little guitar is flat out fun to play! Add to that, that it is great looking and yup... you have a real guitar, that is small enough to strap to a kayak.

Good "starter" instrument for a child

    By Stu Smoke

from Jackson, Tennesee, Rock-a-billy Capitol of the World!

Comments about Laguna LD Series LD1 Little Brat 3/4 Acoustic Guitar:

Wondering if your child REALLY wants to play guitar or will lose interest in a short time? This is a great guitar for you. Much better quality than the toy guitars found at major retailers -- easier fretboard action for small fingers, stays in tune. If your child sticks with it, this will be a quality instrument until he or she is ready for a full-size guitar. If your child loses interest, you're not out a huge chunk of $.
suprisingly good "action' along the fretboard
Good construction, quality neck & machine heads, easy to string and tune.
Costs more than "big box" starter guitar -- but well worth it. This guitar is not a toy, but has the size and easy action that allows a beginner (my 8-year-old daughter) to practice and play well.

    No Looking Back

Comments about Laguna LD Series LD1 Little Brat 3/4 Acoustic Guitar:

I played as many small travel guitars as I could: Little Martin, Baby Taylor, Parlor sized Bennett Design, Yamaha (steel and classical 1/2 sized), A&L Ami and Mitchell. I could not put the little brat down. This little guitar just sounds great, has a great feel and perfect sized neck. I did go back and forth with the Martin and Taylor. For a small spare, travel guitar for this price and sound...I just could not justify spending more for the two top brands. Surprising sustain and punchy sound. This is small so it needs to be played with a light touch or the dynamics of the sound go out the window just like the Martin and Taylor. This guitar has a true natural finish however the build quality is lagging behind the top two, but it's still a beautiful little guitar. This places third overall for me in quality. Sound wise, it's a three way, but the price sealed the deal.

Comments about Laguna LD Series LD1 Little Brat 3/4 Acoustic Guitar:

I went out to several stores to try out smaller guitars like the Little Martin and the Baby Taylor. I wasn't that impressed with the guitars I was trying, and then I saw the Laguna and gave it a shot. It sounded much better, and cost less, too. I bought it, and have been very happy I did. Put a set of Martin Silk and Steel strings on it to add a little more warmth, and we're very pleased with it. It doesn't sound like a full sized dread, but it does sound better than the rest in its size, and has some nicer appointments and a very nice finish.

      Great guitar for the money

Comments about Laguna LD Series LD1 Little Brat 3/4 Acoustic Guitar:

This guitar is great. For the money you pay, the sound is rich, the original strings are easy on the fingers, the action is fine. The b string on mine is a little tough but all other strings finger just great! When I saw the Baby Taylor and Little Martin in a local store, I think those guitars sound and feel a little nicer and have more comfortable actions and less fret buzz, but overall the Brat is fun to play! For what you pay, it's a great value. The cedar-like finish is nice, too. Of the Lagunas, the Brat is really a stellar little product.

Comments about Laguna LD Series LD1 Little Brat 3/4 Acoustic Guitar:

I wanted a small travel guitar to take with me while on vacation. My wife has the Baby Taylor and I wanted something similar. I did my research and decided on the Laguna LD1 Brat. The guitar was ordered and it arrived on time and well packed. Out of the box the action was a little high. A little adjusting of the trussrod and lowering the saddle a bit and the action was very playable. The fit and finsh of the guitar is great. The neck is easy to play and has the classic "C" shape. My only complaint was the intonation. The G string was a little flat. Not a big deal. It was corrected with a little angle work on the saddle. Other then this the guitar is a great value. It sounds great, plays well and fits my needs for a travel guitar. For the price its a great value.

When shopping for a knock around guitar, I tried the Baby Taylor, Yamaha Folk and Little Martin. This guitar sounds better! It is a great value and a beautiful looking guitar. I suggest picking up a Gator 3/4 size guitar bag to go with it.

Comments about Laguna LD Series LD1 Little Brat 3/4 Acoustic Guitar:

I own many high end guitars (taylor, martin, collings, santa cruz, etc. I wanted a guitar for my 5 year old to begin lessons. This guitar is amazing for the money. The sound has nice projection for a tiny guitar. The neck is very straight and the action is very playable -- which is essential for a young child first learning. Solid top and excellent fret quality Can't beat it.

Comments about Laguna LD Series LD1 Little Brat 3/4 Acoustic Guitar:

I have been looking for years for a good little guitar that I could travel with. Take on trips, business/pleasure and just have with me without the risk of hurting one of my very $$$$$ ones I keep at the house or use professionally. My wife bought this for me for Christmas this year, and I am so very impressed. Quality/Sound, feel, size, it is the perfet mix of what I was looking for. YOu will love it too!!!!

Comments about Laguna LD Series LD1 Little Brat 3/4 Acoustic Guitar:

I compared the Laguna Little Brat to the Little Martin LX1 and the Baby Taylor in a guitar shop, and spent a lot of time with each.I was impressed with how nicely this one played, and had great cosmetic appointments. Great for an instrument in this price range. Still though, I couldn't get into this axe. In comparison to the other two, this guitar sounds considerably less open. Not very pleasing - boxy. Still, it's the cheapest of the three, and for what it is it's not too bad. My personal vote goes to the Baby Taylor, though, as it was the warmest and most natural sounding of the bunch.

      Excellent Guitar

      By DATH4Ever

      from Maryland

Comments about Laguna LD Series LD1 Little Brat 3/4 Acoustic Guitar:

I compared the little brat to a Martin LXM side by side and noticed the following differences: Even though the Martin is laminate it has that wonderful Martin solid wood scent and is substantially heavier than the little brat; projection and volume are also slightly better. Aside from that, the little brat weighed in my favor - I quite enjoyed the lighter feel and the complexity of the sound is immediately evident (lots of beautiful overtones and sustain). I took a half point off quality for smelling vaguely like glue :) All three brats I played were set up perfectly. I own too many laminate Fenders and a Martin D-35 and can honestly say this is the most BALANCED sounding guitar I own, definitely has that wonderful mahogany air to it, and with a heavy hand can get surprising loud for such a comfortable size. LOVE IT!
