Buy this guitar, you'll never regret it.I bought a Red Variax 700 Tremelo over two years ago, and paired it with a PodXT Live via the Variax connector. I haven't played another guitar or amp since, and probably never will. This is simply the most playable, most versatile, and most enjoyable guitar out there. The workmanship is incredible, and the carved top and finish are gorgeous. Everything just feels right on this guitar when I play it.I added locking tuners to mine, and the thing stays in tune for weeks on end. Ridiculously amazing! The ONLY complaint I have is the absence of magnetic pickups prevents amp feedback...so no feedback effects. Oh well, nothing is perfect. The upside is a completely noise free guitar. If you are recording or playing live, pairing with a Pod XT Live is an absolute must. When recording, the Variax digital connection is so pure and quiet, you just direct inject into your mixer and you get a zero-noise recording with zero-effort. Noise gates are officially a thing of the past with this guitar. It reminds me of the first time I played a CD and practically blew my speakers because I turned it up too loud looking for the background hiss/noise. With the PodXT amp models, you'd think you were playing a vintage guitar through a mic'd guitar amp. Also, when playing live, you'll get an incredible tone and hassle-free set up by plugging directly into the PA.Can't say enough good things about the 12-string sounds, acoustic sounds and alternate tunings...it truly is like having a whole rack of custom configured guitars and rigs at your fingertips. The acoustic sounds are hi-fidelity, so you can't fully appreciate this guitar through a standard guitar amp. Sure, if you plug it into a Marshall head, and choose a Les Paul model, you'll get an incredibly authentic sound...but the better thing to do with this guitar is couple it with a PodXT live, plug it into a hi-fi PA, and get any possible guitar and amp sound you can think of.I absolutely love this guitar, and I bet you'll love yours, too...

I purchased the Variax 700 with tremolo, and WORKBENCH about a year ago and have used this guitar professionally since the day it arrived. IT's easy to play and very reliable. In fact, I'm dependent on the Variax 700 to the point that Line 6's lack of customer service, makes me very uneasy. Haven't played any of my other guitars since the 700 arrived.I used to have to take 4 guitars, and a mandolin to the gigs, this one guitar does more than all of them combined and in a FLASH! No more dead air during on-stage performances switching from std tuning to the open E or G (Keith Richards' tunes). I can go from fingerpicking an acoustic D-28 to a Les Paul in open E Slide guitar in a second. I can change guitar voices and tunings in the middle of a song. 12 sting models virtual capo'd up 12 frets gives you a mandolin for "Copperhead Road." (I really recommend you get the "Workbench" program). The guitar is a must in the studio too. Sometimes I do the backing tracks first and select a guitar voice (Les Paul, Strat, Tele, etc), to contrast the rhythm track. There should be a battery gauge on there to let you know how much time the batteries will last. The Variax 700 Works great with my Sennheiser G2 wireless. It comes with a gig bag and I'd love to see a hard shell case for this kind of money.I had a problem with the battery connection inside the guitar. The lead was so short, it was difficult to get the battery magazine onto the 9 V. battery connector. Had a friend solder in a 4" extension and it works fine.My only real complaint is about Line 6's total lack of customer support. I've never spent so much money on such a wonderful product to be totally ignored by the company. Heaven forbid that I should ever have a problem with this guitar, myself or the service people would never be able to find out where or how to buy/order or obtain replacement parts.YES,I'd buy another one, and I'll have to buy another just to guarantee I have this fantastic backup guitar for gigs while the service man hires a private eye to track down Line 6 to find replacement parts.Really wish they'd make a 5 string electric violin so I can leave the other 3 violins and electronic support systems at home.

No reviewer previously both owned & used this product (how can they give a decent review)?

Comments about Line 6 Variax 700 Electric Guitar with Tremolo:

My drummer/recording engineer who loves Les Pauls and Marshalls couldn't believe the Les Paul/Marshall sound I get out of this guitar.
I love having so many guitars at my disposal. I use this with a Pod XT Live. It's a great setup.
Strings break after a 4 hour gig and about 2 hours of rehearsal. They break just behind the bridge. I was going to send it back to Line 6 for repair but just started using string savers. Makes strings last a lot longer.

    The perfect guitar!

    By Guilherme B.

Comments about Line 6 Variax 700 Electric Guitar with Tremolo:

Variax 700 is an amazing guitar! It has all the possibilities every guitarist would want, 30 guitars, including a sitar, banjo and some great acoustic guitars, if i just turn one knob i already have another instrument...The Les Paul sound is fantastic, and the fenders are great too! If it just had a Les Paul sound it would already worth the money, if you have a pod, you can make it change the guitar model and tuning when you change the preset. What really make me decided of buying this guitar is the possibility to have a lot of tunings just turning one knob, and you can also make your personalized guitar in the variax workbench. It's an awesome guitar, it made me want to sell my other guitars! haha

    Transparent Red Variax 700

Comments about Line 6 Variax 700 Electric Guitar with Tremolo:

I've owned a Model 300 and a Model 600. While these guitars offered an interesting view into the world of Line 6's modeling technology, the Model 700 is definately head and shoulders above them both. Starting with the finish, this guitar is absolutely a beauty! Deep red with black accents in the carved top grain are set off by the chrome hardware. Only a tad heavier than the 600, I could tell on the first chord that this guitar sounded much better than the 300 or 600. But not only did it sound better too me, the all around playability was much better too. And that was straight out of the box compared to the 600 which I had "professionally" set up at a guitar store. I've played my buddys' Gibson Les Paul Standard and do I dare say that this guitar blows it away? Yes, it does. I've also played strats, a Jackson Custom Soloist among others and, well, if you want a great feeling guitar that oozes super tone do yourself a favor and grab a Model 700. Simple as that.

WARNING: may replace all your guitars

    By sbamk

    from Pittsburgh, PA

Comments about Line 6 Variax 700 Electric Guitar with Tremolo:

This guitar lives up to the hype. The preset models are as close as you'll get to the real things without actually spending $50,000 on all those different guitars. The guitar itself is set up pretty well with a very playable neck. Does the playability compare to other >$1000 guitars? Probably not, but the electronics make up for those shortfalls. The only major gripe I have is with the whammy bar - it's a bit of a loose and flimsy design so I don't use it. I would immediately go for a Floyd Rose version if they made one.If you decide to get a Variax 700 on its own, you're really not getting the full use out of it. You should pair it with a Vetta II or POD X3 Live and then your jaw will drop at having the ability to create just about any guitar tone... ever. Using it with the digital amp/pedalset also gives you amazing flexibility for putting together preset patches not just for the amp or the guitar, but for your entire rig.

    UNBELIEVABLY GOOD

Comments about Line 6 Variax 700 Electric Guitar with Tremolo:

I own a Les Paul, Strat, Ramirez, ES 335, and Line 6 600 -- the 700 is absolutely stunning in its recreation of the sounds, and the quality of workmanship (transparent red). Neck is like butter. I don't use the whammy bar.

Very pleased with my Variax 700 Electric

    By Dzman2112

    from Gap PA

Comments about Line 6 Variax 700 Electric Guitar with Tremolo:

The workmanship, appearance, and set up on this guitar (transparent blue) is top-notch. My everyday axe was a Les Paul Special, which I loved to play. The Variax 700 is a better playing guitar, once I got used to the different scale neck. Guitar sounds are as authentic as you'll get without buying a real "_________", as long as your amp matches what you're trying to copy: Strat model through your overdriven Mesa Boogie will NOT sound like Skynyrd.I run through a PODXTLive and love the versatility of the different amp choices. I use 6 different guitar models and 5 or six different amp models for our set list. The acoustic settings on my 700, run through the PA or my acoustic amp, sound every bit as acoustic as my Epiphone acoustic with B-Band pick up. The 700 IS NOT a good guitar for Metal/Thrash stuff. The virtual capo (LINE6-Workbench software) takes getting used to. I use it for drop-D and a couple open tunings only. Does not handle "capo 5" or higher very well, plus you have to re-learn your songs and play them at the nut. The rest of Workbench is cool! Make a pick up hotter or colder - switch phasing...you name it.The gig bag is even high quality. I've only had mine for a few months, and have only had two minor glitches, which have not repeated themselves. Don't worry. Go to the LINE6 web site and read the support threads. Every problem seems to have a solution, and the users on those support pages are eager to help. You won't see too many problems posted concerning the 700 anyway.

I was very, very reluctant to buy this guitar when I first saw it...I mean cmon man where the hell are the pickups? and damn I was wrong!! I've been playing guitar for almost 8 years now and this is by far the best piece of work I have seen around in a while. I highly recommend this axe...buy it and you'll never regret it, and you can take my word to the bank!

    Best guitar I've EVER played

    By Kurtlo

    from Macon, Georgia

Comments about Line 6 Variax 700 Electric Guitar with Tremolo:

I saw it and was very skeptic from the start. Went to the Line6 website and was like too good to be true. I got mine in the mail a few days ago and I've played it nonstop for 2 days. Its unbelievable. The acoustic models are AMAZING and the Rickenbackers are AMAZING. The only gripe I have is the alternate tunings sometimes have a TINY bit of lag. Its not bad though. I play through a POD XT Live and this guitar combined with the XT Live is something that every guitarist should experience. Also, the banjo and resonators are AMAZING especially with slide playing. Very Cool

    By Scot58

    from NorthWest In.

Comments about Line 6 Variax 700 Electric Guitar with Tremolo:

I've owned the Variax 700 (transparent red) for a few months now and it's simply amazing. Excellent construction and just overall great looking. I have mine hooked to a Pod XT Live and a vox DA 20 for electric models and a Phonic Pod 620 PA for acoustics. There isn't anything this can't do. You can go from buck owens to metalica in seconds. The convenience and versatility is outstanding. Since I bought this all my other guitars have been on a long vacation. The thing just makes life to easy. Would love to try this with a tube amp, but until then I'm happy!
