Before Luna Guitars, founder Yvonne de Villiers was a stained-glass artist and it shows in her designs. Inspired by the struggles her petite mother had in the 60's finding an appropriate bass guitar for her petite stature and tastes, Yvonne founded Luna Guitars in 2005 to make stringed instruments that are comfortable and inspiring for musicians of all sizes. Each Luna Guitars design is a balance between visual appeal, good sound and an affordable price, and the balance is well struck. For example, the Safari Starry Night ¾ size travel acoustic guitar is a true masterpiece you can take with you anywhere. Featuring the image of Starry Night by Vincent Van Gogh on the spruce top and a blue mahogany back and sides, this compact instrument is great for young players and for bringing along to play at parties. The sound is great for the size and price.
If an acoustic-electric guitar is more your style, the Fauna Butterfly is worth a look. An abalone butterfly and mother-of-pearl flower design decorates the quilted maple top, making this a really aesthetically pleasing instrument. The maple back and sides give the body a good tone, and the built-in B-Band preamp with 4-band EQ and a digital tuner is a convenient addition.
Although many musical instruments are beautiful, some cross the line into works of art. The Vista Wolf acoustic-electric is one of Luna Guitars' highest-quality instruments made from blackwood, padauk, koa, flame maple, cocobolo, maple burl and movinui. This stunning, colorful selection of woods are cut and arranged to show a wolf howling at the moon, rising over a mountain range. Besides the striking top, other perks include a beautiful cocobolo back and sides, as well as a B-Band T-55 preamp/tuner for a simply stunning sound.
Luna Guitars is unique in their offering of truly unique and often wild colors and designs on their guitars. Any musician who's tired of the same old look will find these instruments exciting and refreshing, and above all else, musically inspiring.
