I have a collection of various Martin and Gibson acoustics that I baby too much and stays at home in my studio. I needed something that is narrow and can comfortably take to live gigs and not get worried about it being stolen or damaged. I almost bought a Taylor 214ce until this guitar caught my attention. The Taylor sounded to small and tinny, this felt alive when I strummed it the first time around. It is very raw from tone, to appearance. Creamy highs, vibrant mids and bass that lingers just right. This ended up being used to much that it has dings all over it. I very much love playing it since it has a very low action. This is obviously is not going to sound like an HD-28, but man does it feel better on my hands and it delivers. Don't expect this to be loud, it is a narrow body afterall. The pickup system is quite good. The tuners are great. It looks... it looks beautifully raw. The top being bare, will most likely attract a lot of dirt. I have seen people mention cracked tops... what are you people doing with your guitar?! Anyway, I can highly recommend this guitar for anyone. It is such a cheap price for what it has to offer.

The sound of this guitar is awesome. I compared it to many guitars in and around it's price range and it far surpassed it in sound quality especially when plugged in. I have had the guitar for only two years now but I have had nothing but problems with the thing. I bought it brand new and within a year it had a crack in the top of the guitar that ran all the way down the seam. I had been using the humidifier the entire time as well and of course this happens right before a performance. Beyond this, the neck was so badly warped, especially at about the 15th fret that a simple adjustment with an allen wrench wouldn't cut it. I have had the same cracking problem repaired multiple times by a certified martin repair center and every single time the problem comes back. The guitar is extremely sensitive to temperature and humidity and has just been a money pit for me. Even when I have a humidity sensor in the guitar case that says its the perfect 50% range, the guitar cracks.. just to make me angry. Maybe I got a lemon? who knows. be cautious when buying this guitar or any guitar for that matter that has a bare wood top!!

other than that the guitar is extremely playable and sounds great! ... just way too sensitive.

Great guitar, even for a "cheap" martin

By David Wilson

Comments about Martin 000CX1 Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

I boguht this guitar several weeks ago, and love it. This guitar has great bass response and nice and warm, put a set of 80/20's and it brightens up very nicely. The only complaint I have is that it came with a bone nut and a tusq saddle, Im not sure hwy martin didnt just go bone and bone but I'm sure they had their reasons.
built in tuner with great electronics package, and battery is real easy to change.
This is considered cheap martin? I see no need for me to buy any other guitar much more expensive this is a phenomanal and great guitar.

Crazy Good

By Adam-BKgT0

Comments about Martin 000CX1 Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

I bought this Guitar a couple days ago, and I am VERY happy with it. Having limited funds, I don't get to buy guitars very often so I went to every music store in the Portland area and played nearly every guitar on display in town - trying to make the best decision I could. The only guitar that compared to this one in sound and feel was a $4000 Jumbo Gibson. The naturalist in me was in the market for a solid wood "hand made" Guitar - But I payed one note on this guitar and all of my naturalist went away.... (literally - one note - I am not exaggerating)You cannot get a better guitar than this unless you go up to (or near)the $2000 range. I have not recorded with this guitar yet, but I have no worries about it's performance. The Fishman electronics in it are pretty freakin sweet too. Whomever came up with the on-board guitar tuner is just a saint! a freakin genius AND a saint!!! All in all - I love this guitar - however, I have only had it for 2 days so I cannot speak to the lasting quality - I REALLY HOPE it lasts :) because it is GREAT right now.

Best Guitar Ever

Comments about Martin 000CX1 Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

I have two of these Martin 000cx1e acoustic guitars, as well as three other Martin models. I am a 52 year old singer and soloist since age 9. Let me tell you that this, the X series guitars are made in the U.S., at the famous Martin factory in Nazareth, Pennsylvania, NOT in Mexico.(Other reviewers are confusing this with the Little Martin Series, and/or the Backpacker.) If anyone wants to own the very finest guitar on the planet Earth, they need a C.F. Martin & Co. acoustic guitar. This Martin X Series uses non-traditional bullet-proof materials for the body, neck, and fretboard. This one has an excellent solid spruce top. The precision is absolute. The tone is superb, with TONS of bass. It booms. The quality, flawless. An errorproof purchase. Enjoy!

Comments about Martin 000CX1 Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

This guitar is GREAT!!! I would suggest it to anybody who is looking to buy a guitar that will last for a long time that is also (relatively) cheap but still sounds amazing. I just recently got this guitar and I am most pleased with it. So far, I haven't noticed one thing I didn't like about it, except for the matte type finish on it, which still isn't bad. I love how easy it is to play and is up there with gibsons and taylors and even other really expensive martins. But I really love the bragging rights, like, "You have a Fender? Well, I have a Martin!", and everybody's like, "Ohhhh, he's so awesome!!"... Anyway, great guitar. Get it.

Comments about Martin 000CX1 Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

I've always wanted to own a Martin but thought they were way beyond what I could afford, at least the ones I've had the pleasure to play. Then I found the 000CX1E. This is a quality guitar at an unbelievable price. I also own a Taylor 214CE. The sound is more mellow than the crisp, treble tone of the Taylor, which is a great contrast and what I was looking for. It doesn't matter to me where it's made (Mexico), it's still a Martin and made to their specifications. Factor in it's sound, smell and price, and you have an amazing guitar. Aso, the Fishman pick-up/tuner is far superior to the one in my Taylor. For anyone who thinks they have to pay hundreds of dollars more for a decent Martin, think again. This guitar is far better than its price would suggest.

Comments about Martin 000CX1 Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

    This guitar sings to me.
It is cold here in Michigan, when I first got it, it sounded funny- but once it sat in my apartment and "warmed up" for a couple of hours- we quickly bonded and developed a fast love affair.
I have been so inspired by the sound and harmonics I wrote a song within the first week of playing it.
At the risk of sounding like I want to have my cake and eat it too, I want another one.
Those Mexicans must be natural artisans and and know what sounds good-no fancy inlay or shiny surfaces- simple elegance- and the tone - PURE and full!
Not lacking bass even though it's smaller than the dreadnaught. Perfect size. The case is streamlined and small as well.
    Sounds excellent plugged in too.
The only disadvantage is- I am very protective of her- I took my old guitar to Florida (had to check it on the flight) - couldn't bear the thought of the airline losing or damaging this one. Maybe when I get another one I will be able to take more chances. Until then- I am SO HAPPY with this guitar.
Her name is M'ija. (pronounced "Meeha" -Spanish term of endearment).
If you buy this you will not regret it.
I was nervous of the negative reviews about the cracks, but cracks will not affect tonal quality so even if it cracks I'm going to love it the same.

I bought this guitar two weeks ago and I havent put it down since. It has a great bright tone and the thinner body style is ideal for live playing. I would recommend this guitar to anybody who doesnt have the money 2 shell out the big bucks for a higher end martin or Taylor or something. Its a great guitar. The Fishman Classic 4 pickup that comes with it is one of the best pickups I've ever heard. Buy it. You won't be disapionted.

Better Than DCX1E at Same Price

    By CustomGuitarMan

    from Bethlehem, PA

Comments about Martin 000CX1 Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

I purchased this guitar from my local guitar store. The sound is great and the feel of the neck is awesome. When it was new, there was a smell like a spice that came from the soundhole (at least for me). The only problem I've had with this guitar is that the middle and bass controls on the fishman pickup become wiggly like a tooth and they fall off. Make sure you check this when you purchase the guitar. Overall, I would recommend buying this, because it's similar to the DCX1E, but is made in the USA and is a custom model at the same price.

    Great value!

    By Ben2theEdge

    from New Haven, CT

Comments about Martin 000CX1 Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

This is the third guitar I've owned and I've had it for about a year. It took a long time for me to decide to buy it because of its plain appearance, but its voice won me over. It is definitely a Martin and the sound it makes is incredibly rich and deep as you would expect. Mine was very well made, the action was just the way I like it right out of the box, and not a hint of buzzing. The Fishman pickup seals the deal; I use this guitar regularly in a church congregation of 300+ and it sounds just as angelic plugged in as it does on its own. Shame there's no built-in tuner but the overall value more than makes up for that. The neck is pretty thick but it's easy to get used to, and the natural-looking top is actually pretty nice because it doesn't get fingerprints or smudges (and it feels really nice). This guitar has been great to me and I intend to keep it as my primary acoustic for a long time!

Nice little gtr , sounds great next to my 97 taylor 714 cedar top. Sounds like a martin w.o. the boomy low mids of a dreadnaught. Plays well, no buzzing or fretting out on bends. Came out of the box in tune all though a few cents shy of std. Looks great & smells great!

    A Martin Indeed

    By inquire_the_truth

    from FL

Comments about Martin 000CX1 Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

This is my first 'real' guitar of any value, and I do not regret my purchase. It plays beautifully straight from the box. Action is spot-on. The neck is uber smooth and fast, better than most any acoustic I've played. The no-finish finish on the top adds a rustic quality that may not be for everyone, but the simplicity suits me well. I would buy this again the same day if something were to ever happen to it.

    Great sounding Guitar

    By Anonymous

    from Undisclosed

Comments about Martin 000CX1 Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

Although this guitar is made with quite a few man-made materials, it does sound great. It has an even tone from the highs to the lows. The slightly narrower body profile means it hugs you closer, and is easier to play, yet does not lose any projection. For the price, you can't beat it.

I've had this about a year. If you're looking for a somewhat bright sound, easy playability, great plugged in and acoustic sound...this is your guitar. Very crisp sound, strong mids, beautifully made. No gripes at all, couldn't tell it was MIM. I've gigged a good amount with this, working my way to a D35 or a Hummingbird, but this will do for a few years more!

Comments about Martin 000CX1 Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

I just purchased the Martin 000CX1E acoustic electric for my husband. Straight out of the box it was ready to play. My husband was shocked not only by this, but was in awe out the sound this guitar produces, and the ease of the fingerboard in comparrison to his old guitar. You just can't beat Martin quality on any guitar they make, and this guitar prooves it.
