OVERVIEW

Designed for working and traveling guitarists on a modest budget.

In making the 000RS1 Audiortium Acoustic-Electric, Martin guitar set out to build a solid-bodied instrument with all the sound and projection of their more expensive guitars. The 000RS1 was also designed for the working and touring guitarists looking for an instrument with a balanced tone and projection.

The top, back and sides are crafted of solid sapele and braced for resonance and projection. This guitar has a comfortable, low oval neck, built from multilaminate Stratabond for extra rigidity and durability. The belly bridge and fingerboard is made of forest-friendly Richlite, a material that has a similar look and feel to ebony.

This 000RS1 comes equipped with the Fishman Sonitone sound reinforcement system, featuring rotary controls for volume and tone. The Sonitone is a great-sounding, easy-to-use system that is perfect for stage and studio application. A hardshell case is included to make this an absolutely amazing value.

Comments about Martin 2014 Road Series 000RS1 Acoustic Electric Guitar:

It's discouraging how hard it is to find a solid wood guitar at a reasonable price. With this guitar, Martin provides a quality player by trimming some fat from luxury models.

When viewing this guitar I was deciding between this and the Martin 000-15. Both are similar in many ways save that this one is made out of Sapele (an African, mahogany substitute), made in Mexico and has a strabond neck. I needed a guitar to play out live and would have needed to install a pickup in a 000-15. When it came down to it, I couldn't justify the price difference. If you're a purist and the neck and fingerboard will keep you discontented, I'd recommend the 15 series for you.

The only considerable "con" to me is the stratabond neck. The strabond necks, to me, are not bad at all. I've heard it argued that these necks do not affect tone or playability, and I agree. They don't stifle resonance, they're not heavy and arguably they're more durable and less prone to warping as opposed to a traditional neck, making this guitar something that I'll worry less about when traveling and bringing this guitar into the harsh temperatures of my car or trailor.

Also, this guitar is made in Mexico which also helps contribute to it's low(er) price. A friend of mine has a USA Martin X series. With a hard-shell case, pick up and solid wood, I felt no comprise in buying a Mexican made Martin. It's well built.

I needed a quality made and great-sounding guitar that I could use in live settings and record with.

Comments about Martin 2014 Road Series 000RS1 Acoustic Electric Guitar:

I fell in love with mahogany guitars a few years ago and this guitar appeared in my price range. The fact that the case is included is a good bargain. Other solid wood guitars are the same price or a bit less expensive but without a case. When I opened it up, the wood was striking. In my opinion, sapele is a prettier wood with much more figure than mahogany. The stripes on the top and back really stand out and there was even some ribbon grain on the sides. You would have to pay quite a bit to get figured mahogany as pretty as sapele. The tone takes a day or two of playing to really come out but when it does, this guitar has a lot of volume and a really strong bass. It's really quite amazing for a 000 body. I was a bit worried about the Richlite fingerboard and bridge but it looks like ebony and, equally important, it feels like ebony. The workmanship is very good with the frets filed properly. The only criticism I had was that the center of the back of the neck was a bit rough. It smoothed out after handling it for about a week. The laminated neck, while not as pretty as solid mahogany or some other hardwood, is still attractive. I always liked laminated wood and it doesn't look out of place. Regarding the pickup, I haven't plugged it in but it's nice to have it. If you want a 000 body guitar, you won't go wrong with this one.

Comments about Martin 2014 Road Series 000RS1 Acoustic Electric Guitar:

Bought this guitar recently, after spending a long while reading reviews for the d15m and the drs1, briefly considering the 00015m, I had the budget for a mahogany guitar. I went into a store and tried to love the more expensive guitar, but the sound of this auditorium sappele instrument stood out to me, and I had to buy it! If you are put off by the sapelle wood, don't be!!!
      Buy it :)
