C.F. Martin "Authentic™ Series" guitars go well beyond the already highly acclaimed Golden Era® vintage recreations in faithfully replicating the specifications, materials and processes used in the construction of the original pre-WWII Martin guitars. These custom hand-constructed acoustic guitars draw their inspiration from stellar 1937 examples and employ the use of hide glue as well as a T-shaped neck reinforcement bar. Other significant features on this Martin guitar include an Adirondack red spruce top with circa 1937 contoured Adirondack bracing, a specially shaped tortoise-colored pickguard, a narrow tortoise-colored end piece, old style 18 abalone position markers, grained ivoroid side position dots, black ebony fingerboard and bridge, fossil ivory nut and saddle, premium Waverly® period tuning gears, and a vintage case.

The best Adirondack-Mahogany that I have tried for my kind of music. Every time I play her, she takes 15 min to warm up, and then she really gives the maximum a 000 size can provide: full, warm, precise, clear and boomy as we all like. From my point of view, it is the best sounding 000 Adi-Maho compared to 000-18 GE or equivalent in Santa Cruz and Collins.

The best guitar I have ever played was a 1948 rosewood 000 Martin...but it was $24,000!. I then spent 4 years looking for something close. I bought a Martin 000 Clapton, then sold it, a Collings 000 which I then sold as the more I played either the less I liked them. I then played a 000-18 1937 Authentic... absolutely gorgeous. It is close to the 1948, substantially cheaper and is improving with time so who knows where its performance will end...a killer guitar! If you want the real deal this is it.

I was lucky enough to get the chance to play this guitar in a music store, and even though it is by no means in my price range, I still thought it to be sensational. It balances the classic Martin v-shaped neck with low action that's not too low for chords, but not too high for finger style. There are louder guitars, but for it's size and the wood it is made from, it has very good projection. Having played a vintage one of similar caliber, (a D-18, not a OOO-18) I can say that although the vintage ones are wonderful and play even better, this particular model cannot be beat for a new guitar, not to mention that vintage ones are more expensive, harder to get a hold of, and often times spent years without care, allowing them to warp. The vintage ones have richer sound, but this is, by a long shot, the best new guitar that I have ever played, and someday I hope to be in a financial position to buy one. If you are, it cannot be beat for finger style as well as finger picking. The Dreadnought model of equivalent nature would be preferable for those who like to strum chords.
