A great strummer with rich bottom end that's highly versatile.

Private Reserve Guitars works closely with the Martin Custom Shop in Nazareth, Pa., to obtain instruments that are especially noteworthy based on their performance characteristics and appearance.

The following descriptions are from Sound Check Sessions that allow a small group of Martin employee/players to spend quality time with fresh instruments to discuss the concepts behind the creations, and to offer commentary on sound, feel, and look.

The Concalo Alves Dreadnought is summed up this way: œIt excels at different musical styles. Conceived as a œ21-Special styled performer this Goncalo Alves dreadnought proves to be a highly versatile instrument. Its forward-shifted bracing helps deliver an overall lower fundamental tone.

This Adirondack spruce-topped guitar shows itself to be a good strummer with a sound signature reminiscent to that of a rosewood jumbo body. With a long scale, this instrument lends itself very well to alternative tunings. The rich bottom end is coherent and not boomy, even tuned 1/2-step down.

Balance across a variety of tunings will complement a variety of genre and performance styles. As a comfortable coffee-house strummer, attention will immediately be drawn to the distinct visual character of the Goncalo Alves. Visually, one thinks koa. Sonically, it has more rosewood timbres, undoubtedly due to the rich denseness of the wood.

PRG inventory changes regularly, so please contact your Guitar Advisors at 866-926-1923 for the latest availability and an in-hand description of the instruments.

Comments about Martin Custom D-14 Goncalo Alves Dreadnought Acoustic Guitar:

Gorgeous looking meticulously-built guitar, with bright treble and solid, clear bass. Tunes down without going muddy or boomy. Good projection with moderate strumming, yet holds up to harder playing without limiting out (great dynamic range). Clear, pure notes (strong fundamentals) with fewer overtones. Great for lead acoustic picking over other instruments. Great alternative to traditional rosewood bluegrass dreadnought for those looking for a more exotic visual aesthetic.
