If you're looking for an all wood, American made Martin acoustic guitar at this price point, this is without a doubt the way to go.
After playing it for a couple of weeks now, I would buy it again in a heart beat.
I love the satin finish of this all wood beauty. You can smell the wood as soon as you open the case.
The tuning machine have the Martin logo which tells me they were serious about making a quality guitar. This was somewhat of a surprise since there were no pictures of the back side of the head stock.
The rosette could be a bit nicer but you won't get that at this price point. It is however inlaid and not a decal. This is my only knock but it's a very very minor one. It would not stop me from buying this guitar.
Top notch in my book. Very comfortable to play as the action seemed perfect for me right out of the case.
The Sitka spruce top and Mahogany sides and back are very nice.
The Tortoise binding is a nice touch also.
I looked at (and played) a lot of guitars in this price range (up to $1500) and after reading the reviews I decided to take a chance. Honestly, I could not be happier with my choice.
I could have spent more if I wanted to but for the money I spent I feel I got a truly great guitar.

I returned it. pending the arrival of the Martin D-1GT, which has a stratabond neck, but the rest is
all solid wood. (this model is not in stock at this time).I guess I will finally accept alternative
materials; been quite the all-solid wood snob up to now.
This was a fluke, MF handled it just fine and I still love Martins more than any other brand. I
suspect the shipper let this one get exposed to temperature extremes and it warped, as any
acoustic would.
Basic, no frills model. But that's fine. And it DOES come with a very nice case. (the listing doesn't
mention that). Appears to be more AA wood than AAA.
There was a hump in the fretboard right at the joint to the body, seemingly due to warpage of
the top, possibly due to temperature extremes on the shippers part. Truss rod will not fix that,
and I doubt Martin shipped it that way. Playing it in the lower frets showed it to be a cannon; just
beautiful, full bass with plenty of mids as well, no muddiness anywhere. I have a mahogany 000-15
that now sounds sort of.........muted to me. Love that dread boom!
If you can get one with no issues: it's a great buy.

Comments about Martin Custom D Classic Mahogany Acoustic Guitar:
Read all reviews, was going to get this while back but couldn't get discount and ended up finding the D15 full mah. beautiful deep bass powerful mids, and not very trebly, but still awesome sound. D15 I absolutely love nothing like it period. Just got the Custom, not as pretty as the 15 (both are plain and very powerful), but the spruce top gives it a slightly brighter treble and the volume is a notch higher. If you want something that you can't keep your hands off, this is a thundering power punch that demands respect, both of them are. I have had multiple Ovation guitars some high end among other various quality. An all wood USA made guitar is what it is.
HANDS OFF MY MARTIN, MY HARLEY, MY B!+€#
This guitar is in league all it's own, the D15 does have the open end Butterbean knobs which some guy commented as being cheap, but they are authentic and beautiful. But either one is a slam dunk!

Comments about Martin Custom D Classic Mahogany Acoustic Guitar:
Got this as a playmate for my 1985 Guild D-15M. This guitar has a very bright tone and a big wonderful sound for such a light instrument (the weight surprised me when i first removed it from the case). It's appearence is simple, but pretty. The action is slightly higher than my Guild, but i have no intention of changing it and spoiling that beautiful voice.
Love it already, and i'm looking foward to watching her age.

Comments about Martin Custom D Classic Mahogany Acoustic Guitar:
I can't speak highly enough of this guitar. It has a voice all of it's own. Of all my instruments, this one inspires songwriting in a way I've never before experienced. For this alone, it's deserving of a further 5 stars!
I wouldn't part with it for at any price.
The action is great and the sound retains warmth even with lighter gauge strings.
That Martin aroma really is something else (as my better half constantly remarks)!
Musicians friend have always been an absolute pleasure to deal with. True professionals. I was initially sceptical with the prospect of shipping to Australia, however four guitars and an amp later, my fears have been laid to rest. Customer service par excellence!
Thank you MF for many, many hours of pure enjoyment!

Comments about Martin Custom D Classic Mahogany Acoustic Guitar:
smells, feels, and plays really nicely. action fine, sounds awesome, kinda jangly trebly, but also some great lower tones. I couldn't beat the price. It was sold as a used but mint condition guitar. It showed up in a box that had been opened, but the guitar was brand new. MF classified this as a level 1 used, honestly it was brand new, but they were honest enough to state that it been opened, and used, otherwise I wouldn't have thought otherwise
basic appointments, entry level Martin
Really nice
great value for an American made instrument
Comments about Martin Custom D Classic Mahogany Acoustic Guitar:
great value
I wanted a USA made with a case. bought this as a level 1 mint guitar. Turns out it arrives basically brand new. tried to find a scratch on the case or something, nothing. had brand new strings, obviously. sounds really nice kinda jangly, smells really good. this is prob the stripped down version of one of the other D models, is there another D Mahagony? anyhow the finish is very light, the guitar is very light, it plays really well. action was perfect, no need to adjust. If you are looking for a good american acoustic, that is a no frills axe, for a great price, you found it. go for it. I was tired of playing chinese and mexican guitars.
Comments about Martin Custom D Classic Mahogany Acoustic Guitar:
I have had my guitar for a few months now, and could not be more pleased with it. The guitar has a beautiful low end with plenty of projection and volume, and a nice calm high end, making for a perfect balance. The guitar is solid and sturdy, and very comfortable to play. It responds well to hard strumming with plenty of volume, allowing for a spirited vocal performance. Buy this guitar, you will not be dissapointed. This guitar will make all of your other guitars, and possibly your better half, jealous.
Nothing fancy, just beautiful sound. I am a fan of the understated satin finish.
Comes with a very nice case as well.
The guitar is surprisingly light, but feels solid. The neck is comfortable to play, and mine came perfectly set up with comfortable action.
I played many guitars before purchasing this Martin. I figured I would at least give the other brands a fair shot...This guitar definitely blew away every other guitar up to twice the price.
