Martin

Most affordable spruce-top solid wood Martin ever, and only available here.

This Martin Custom D Classic Acoustic Guitar is the real deal and a real steal. Crafted with a solid Sitka spruce top and solid mahogany back and sides, the mahogany Custom D guitar also has a tortoise binding, modified low-oval mahogany neck with a mortise-and-tenon joint and adjustable truss rod. Solid Indian rosewood fingerboard and bridge, and inlaid single-ring rosette complete this Martin guitar. The mahogany body on the Custom D guitar is much lighter in weight than rosewood, koa, or maple and yields a surprisingly strong, loud sound with an emphasis on clear, bright, airy trebles. Quantities of this custom Martin acoustic guitar are limited. Includes case.

If you're looking for an all wood, American made Martin acoustic guitar at this price point, this is without a doubt the way to go.

After playing it for a couple of weeks now, I would buy it again in a heart beat.
I love the satin finish of this all wood beauty. You can smell the wood as soon as you open the case.

The tuning machine have the Martin logo which tells me they were serious about making a quality guitar. This was somewhat of a surprise since there were no pictures of the back side of the head stock.

The rosette could be a bit nicer but you won't get that at this price point. It is however inlaid and not a decal. This is my only knock but it's a very very minor one. It would not stop me from buying this guitar.
Top notch in my book. Very comfortable to play as the action seemed perfect for me right out of the case.

The Sitka spruce top and Mahogany sides and back are very nice.

The Tortoise binding is a nice touch also.
I looked at (and played) a lot of guitars in this price range (up to $1500) and after reading the reviews I decided to take a chance. Honestly, I could not be happier with my choice.

I could have spent more if I wanted to but for the money I spent I feel I got a truly great guitar.

I returned it. pending the arrival of the Martin D-1GT, which has a stratabond neck, but the rest is
all solid wood. (this model is not in stock at this time).I guess I will finally accept alternative
materials; been quite the all-solid wood snob up to now.

This was a fluke, MF handled it just fine and I still love Martins more than any other brand. I
suspect the shipper let this one get exposed to temperature extremes and it warped, as any
    acoustic would.
Basic, no frills model. But that's fine. And it DOES come with a very nice case. (the listing doesn't
mention that). Appears to be more AA wood than AAA.
There was a hump in the fretboard right at the joint to the body, seemingly due to warpage of
the top, possibly due to temperature extremes on the shippers part. Truss rod will not fix that,
and I doubt Martin shipped it that way. Playing it in the lower frets showed it to be a cannon; just
beautiful, full bass with plenty of mids as well, no muddiness anywhere. I have a mahogany 000-15
that now sounds sort of.........muted to me. Love that dread boom!
If you can get one with no issues: it's a great buy.

Comments about Martin Custom D Classic Mahogany Dreadnought Acoustic Guitar:

I've owned several models of Martins nothing below D-16GT until I purchased a Custom D.This is my second one and I love this model.Great sound, quality, playability and made from REAL wood.Guitar is extremely light in weight but LOUD. And it has the Martin "made in the USA" craftsmanship at a truly affordable price. And it comes with a hardshell Martin case-just open it to get that great mahogany wood fragrance.Who could ask for more.

Comments about Martin Custom D Classic Mahogany Dreadnought Acoustic Guitar:

An old company like Martin is to be commended for remaining competetive rather than resting on their laurels and charging a fortune simply for the name.
Guitars like this prove that Martin still continues to provide real instruments to musicians that are heirloom guality at a price that is affordable to the working man...and amazingly they manage to do this with a 100% made in the USA instrument! Astounding.

Comments about Martin Custom D Classic Mahogany Dreadnought Acoustic Guitar:

This a great guitar at a very affordable price. It plays very easily- good action right out of the box. Tone is very balanced, but slightly tinny. I'm pretty sure it is because the strings are new and the spruce top has not been seasoned. It is the easiest guitar to play that I have owned to date. Very comparable to my Breedlove. For the money its a fantastic deal. Can't wait for it to age and the sound to mellow. Purchase and enjoy!

Comments about Martin Custom D Classic Mahogany Dreadnought Acoustic Guitar:

As a player of many instruments, but a master of none, I want quality, but at a decent price point. Have always wanted a USA made Martin. Finally decided to take the plunge. Played some higher end models (D-28) at different shops, and some lower end models (D-15). Found this model on Musician's Friend on sale, read the reviews (several times over several days), and finally ordered. WOW, couldn't be happier. I can play, but I've had other people play it, who can PLAY. Nothing but compliments. One complaint, Martin does not recognize it on their website, like it doesn't exist. And after filling out the on-line warranty registration, no email response or anything for a few days, felt like the proverbial "red headed step-child". Then yesterday, BAM!!!, I receive a letter in the mail with my lifetime warranty card and a letter from the Martin President (yeah a form letter, BUT) it really made me feel like I had made a quality purchase and became a member of an elite group. I highly recommend this product.

I bought my Martin in 2004. I had always wanted one and for the price that I paid through Musicians Friend, I was more than satisfied. It has a rich full sound and is made with typical Martin workmanship. It is a beautiful instrument! There is nothing cheap about this guitar even the case is first class and it came with a lifetime warranty. What more could a recreational player like me ask for?

Comments about Martin Custom D Classic Mahogany Dreadnought Acoustic Guitar:

I bought this guitar from MF about 9 years ago to replace the inexpensive guitar I'd been performing with. I looked through the catalogues regularly until it was on a special - then ordered. Installed a second strap button, a sound-hole pickup (Duncan Maverick), and some white-out, enlarging side dots to aid reference points in low light. I still play it many times each week. It is still easy to play and sounds great. It has held up extremely well through heavy use. With a new set of strings in the morning and playing a 50 song gig at night, it performed magnificently, week after week.
I used Martin CL strings for years but had trouble with the G string breaking at the bridge (only once during a show). Sanding the bridge did not alleviate the problem. Out of desperation, I tried GHS extra lights and that solved the problem.
Although this guitar now costs more than when I bought mine, it is still a great value. Anyone who wants a quality guitar that will last for years should consider this one.
