OVERVIEW

Most affordable spruce-top solid wood Martin ever, and only available here.

This Martin Custom D Classic Acoustic Guitar is the real deal and a real steal. Crafted with a solid Sitka spruce top and solid mahogany back and sides, the mahogany Custom D guitar also has a tortoise binding, modified low-oval mahogany neck with a mortise-and-tenon joint and adjustable truss rod. Solid Indian rosewood fingerboard and bridge, and inlaid single-ring rosette complete this Martin guitar. The mahogany body on the Custom D guitar is much lighter in weight than rosewood, koa, or maple and yields a surprisingly strong, loud sound with an emphasis on clear, bright, airy trebles. Quantities of this custom Martin acoustic guitar are limited.

What's the Catch? I called Musicians Friend prior to ordering to make sure these guitars weren't 2nds, blems, or return items. The gentleman said no, these are brand new in the box. I had a D-15 M that I traded along with some other instruments about 7 years ago for a drum kit, and have not gotten over how much I miss that guitar. I have a family so I haven't spent a dime on myself for quite some time, so I decided to take advantage of the favorable financing available. I don't have nine hundy laying around, but I do have fifty bones a month to spare. This guitar arrived in a new box that didn't have several other labels with crossed addresses so that was positive sign number one. The hardshell case was immaculate and certainly lives up to the Martin tag on the side. No dings or blems on it anywhere. Guitar fits snugly with no slop or movement. Now for the good stuff. When you open the case the aroma of the Mahogany is almost intoxicating, much like the sound of slot machines when you walk into a casino, same effect. I inspected the guitar very closely, and it is perfect in every way. Martin hit a home run with this one. Brand new, not a noticeable fingerprint on it anywhere. Setup was perfect right out of the box, arrived in tune, very easy to play, and the Martin sound is fantastic. I don't know how they do it but Martin guitars have a definite "soul" waiting to be released every time you pluck it or strum it. Its wonderful that in order to make this product affordable, Martin focused less on appointments without compromising tonal quality in the least. I totally agree with others who have commented about the relative light weight of the instrument and the impressive volume you can produce with it. I could go on forever but I'll finish by saying this thing is a natural born killer. By the way there is no catch. I'm so happy I pulled the trigger and did it.

Recently tried this product out at a local store and felt it was a good fit for the money. Ordered from my buddies @ MF and rec a really shabby looking unit the first time. Called CS and they were great about sending out another Martin. It looks better overall, but I'm concerned not much effort was put into these guitars. I have a Seagull and it has far superior looks and much more solid body construction.
I'm planning on keeping it and hoping I'm just being too hard initially, but maybe u just get what u pay for. But I don't consider a guitar in this price range cheap. We shall see if the true Martin will come through and surprise me.

Comments about Martin Custom D Classic Mahogany Dreadnought Acoustic Guitar:

I bought this Martin 10 years ago for traveling/jamming so I didn't have to bring my real expensive guitars to outside venues. I've lived in the Arizona desert (no humidity) and on a small South Pacific island (high humidity) playing outside venues/parties and the guitar has held up. This guitar has been beat to death and held up/no cracks or warps.

I replaced the bridge, bridge pins and nut with bone and these have helped with sustain. I vary string types for rhythm and lead plus detune/open tune several times during any one event. The guitar is a rock star. Plays fast, plays clean. I have a Seymour Duncan sound-hole pickup to plug into PA systems and all is good. This is probably the best guitar for the $$$ that I've purchased in 35 years of playing. Don't get me wrong, my high end Gibson/Taylor/Martin are unmatched in sound and quality but I don't take those out. For a everyday guitar, this is it.

There were several of these Martins on the shelve at the store I was at. They do vary in sound/playability. Recommend that you try 'em out to find the right one before you purchase.

Comments about Martin Custom D Classic Mahogany Dreadnought Acoustic Guitar:

This guitar is everything one could hope for in a solid wood mahogany instrument. I am impressed withe sound and play-ability right out of the box. The lows are "mahogany rich", and the highs are "mahogany bright" . . a really great balance. The volume/projection is really surprising. I've been playing it only a few weeks now, so bear that in mind. I would buy one of these again in a heartbeat . . one of the best deals I have found for the $$ spent. As I said . . NO regrets!

Comments about Martin Custom D Classic Mahogany Dreadnought Acoustic Guitar:

Just an update on my martin custom d. I have had a k&k pure mini pick up installed in it and it sounds really good. I cant say enough good things about the k&k pick up. It really sounds very natural. I think it is probably one of the best pick ups I have heard. I hope MF starts carrying them. I cant say enough good things about the Martin custom D either. There is a reason it has 175 reviews on it. Never sell this one.

Comments about Martin Custom D Classic Mahogany Dreadnought Acoustic Guitar:

I have been looking for a great sounding guitar for along time and this is it. I'm so excited about it. I'm 72 years old and have a old Guild guitar I bought since high school and even took it to Nam with me. Well I thought it was about time to buy a new one and am I happy I did. This guitar sounds so rich and deep, and plays so easy. Love it...

Comments about Martin Custom D Classic Mahogany Dreadnought Acoustic Guitar:

I just received this guitar a few days ago. As soon as I started playing the guitar I knew that this was a guitar that I would never sell. I own a few other pretty nice guitars. One of which cost 3 times as much as this guitar. I have a feeling my other guitars are going to start feeling neglected for a while. This guitar is the deal of the year my friends. If you are even thinking about a guitar in this price range I strongly suggest you check this one out. This is one sweet guitar.

Comments about Martin Custom D Classic Mahogany Dreadnought Acoustic Guitar:

Used mostly for private personal enjoyment. I have always loved the sound of acoustic guitar, and have always wanted a Martin. Seems like every time I got some money saved up, something came along that was more critical. This time, I sat down and researched just about every instrument ever made, and read the rave reviews for the Custom D. My experience with high-line guitars is limited, but I can't imagine any instrument at this price that would sound better. Words limit my appreciation for this guitar.

Comments about Martin Custom D Classic Mahogany Dreadnought Acoustic Guitar:

Just got mine last night played it about 3 hours. Nice full powerful sound you expect from martin. I own a performing artist (dcpa3) its a sitka top rosewood guitar, much more expensive and honestly sounds about even. I wanted another less expensive guitar to play out at jams and to take to church with me and thought I would like to try a mahogany out, found this one at what is really a steal! Considering the quality workmanship and the sound this guitar is a tremendous buy. It has great volume which I expect to open up more with some age and medium strings.
