Martin

A phenomenal price for a solid-rosewood guitar!

While the simple appointments, understated satin finish, and modest price of this Martin Custom D Acoustic Guitar are reminiscent of the 15 Series guitars of the 1940s, this model trades vintage all-mahogany construction for a select solid Sitka spruce top and the ringing punch and sustain of solid East Indian rosewood back and sides. The solid mahogany neck is also satin finished for fast, comfortable play.

Features

  • Mortise-and-tenon neck joint
  • Solid Sitka spruce top
  • Solid East Indian rosewood body and sides
  • Tortoise top binding
  • Modified low oval solid mahogany neck
  • Solid Indian rosewood head plate with raised gold foil decal
  • Adjustable truss rod
  • Indian rosewood fingerboard with 16" radius
  • Inlaid single-ring rosette
  • Small dot position markers
  • Solid Indian rosewood bridge

Exceptional tone and playability at a down-to-earth price! Order your the Custom D now!

Martin Custom D15

Features:

Being lefthanded I always wanted a Martin of made of solid rosewood back and sides with a nice spruce top.  However, I wanted the price range within reason for a home guitar.  Folks, I have been playing since the mid sixties, bass, 12 string, LPs, Strats, Gretches, Gibsons, Guilds and inbetween.  Again keep in mind I am lefty and in the early days my selection was limited so I have been there and done that.  Now back to the Martin.  This guitar is plain, lightweight, satin finish all around, nice Martin gold decal and the sound is extremely balanced and full.  It vibrates with quality sound and superb action that keeps up with my loud voice as I sing.  The neck is perfect for me.  The two things I want in a Dreadnought is neck action and sound quality so I give it a 10.   It is not a looker at first but once played it one has to grab and turn this guitar to find the magic and the magic is all inside the craftsmanship of this model.

Quality:

There are some grain line going perpendiculiar on the back side, but it is in the grain and it doesn't effect the sound.  As for appearance it is satin so it shows little.  Not sure why Martin would allow such a piece be selected!  Again, it doesn't effect the sound or construction.  I consider it a birthmark of the guitar and works fine.  every guitar has something to find or it will happen after a month of owning it.

Value:

It plays and sounds like a D-18 without the high appearance costs, i.e., gloss finish.  It is solid rosewood on the back and sides with a solid spruce top.

Overall:

I will give it a ten because it just "sings".  Maybe I lucked out but this is one sweet playing guitar without the frills and solid wood.  I have a J-160E, "Beatles", yet this Martin Custom 15 guitar satisfies me with its Martin sound.

I've gone through and have many guitars, but this sounds as good as any i've played. If you play out this guitar is perfect.Guitar appointments are nice, but have nothing to do with sound.Granted lefty guitars are scarce, but I've been playing since '72 and this is the best acoustic sound I've played.

Seriously. The only thing that my HD28 has on this guitar is looks, SOME playability, and a few components. If you are looking for a D28 sound at a 1/3 of the price, this is it. You can't go wrong with this guitar.
