I bought a guitar to go outside with, sit by the fire, and not break the bank. This does not have the bass of my D28, or the mids of my D35, but it has the right balance without loss of quality, beautiful to look at, built perfectly and sounds like heaven in my hands. Save your wallet, and don't live with regret because you bought an over priced Taylor or Gibson. I have a custom James Goodall, that cost 5k......and this guitar has longer sustain. Buy this beauty!
This thing is not equipped with bells and whistles, and it's not supposed to be. This is a basic D16 just as advertised.
Just what I expected from a guitar built in Nazareth PA. Martin's attention to detail is unmatched in production guitars. Gibson is the same, however they are over priced for what you get in my opinion. This thing is flawless except for a small sanding bump, and I mean small on the back of the neck between the 5 and 2 tuners......seriously who the heck is going to notice? I look at it this way, its a unique flaw, I know this is mine, a few small swirls in the spruce top that can only be seen under dim light at night just adds character. It's not a production flaw, its the grain of the wood. I could pick this guitar out of a police lineup, and know it's my guitar.
For the money this is a gem, nothing else compares.

I just traded for a D-16GT, mine has a pickup in it. It sounds decent on an amp, but acousticaly it is weak. The action was high, but I fixed that. I'm a Martin fan, but not impressed with this one. I have a Blueridge 180 that plays and sounds like a high end Martin. It's in the same price range, but more guitar.

Comments about Martin D-16GT Dreadnought Acoustic Guitar:

I have never owned a more reliable acoustic guitar in my life. The action is always perfect as is the intonation. Seems to stay in tune after long play. Always amazed by the sustain. Pick a note and hold your ear to the sound hole. The sound is endless and beautiful. Plus it's pretty cheap compared to other Martins so you don't mind passing it around.

Comments about Martin D-16GT Dreadnought Acoustic Guitar:

I played a lot in years past. I got married ,kids etc. and just stop playing. I decided it was time to find me another guitar. I wanted one that wasn't so expensive but one that wasn't junk. I looked for about 2 months I played ten thousand do$$ar guitars to cheapos.in the end it come down to the martin d16gt or a Gibson song writer 2.i chose the martin .I couldn't be any happier. It sounds great stays in tune. When I first got it the action was a little high. I had it set-up professionally, installed a bone nut and saddle, installed a lr baggs lyric pickup. Guitar is simply amazing I recommend it to anyone that is looking for a great guitar.BTW the bags lyric pickup is great on this guitar.Imo D'Addario 80 20 med. strings sound the best on this guitar.

This is not a Standard series guitar so Why compare. It is a very good guitar for just under twelve hundred, I got mine for five bills. there is a lot of competition and with the D-15M. Martin has a great lineup. the last guy who found the guitar hard to play simply needs to get a setup and take some lessons
      Overall a great guitar

Comments about Martin D-16GT Dreadnought Acoustic Guitar:

My new Martin sounds great, looks great, has a sturdy, nice looking case but...
The strings were too heavy for my taste and require a lot of figer pressure to play, particularly when playing solos.
Also the strings sit too high making it difficult to play barred chords.
I'm changing the strings to a lighter gauge and I'm taking it to a repair shop to lower the strings (adjustment to the saddle, most likely).

Comments about Martin D-16GT Dreadnought Acoustic Guitar:

I purchased My D-16GT in 2006. It has just got better with age. The top has darkened with age. The rich full sound is great. I play it each day. It sits by my couch in the den. I have been palying for over 30 years and have played them all. For the money you can not get the full tone and pitch from any other guitar for the price. I also have a D-28 3 piece back and the D-16GT is up there with the 28.

Comments about Martin D-16GT Dreadnought Acoustic Guitar:

Been without an acoustic for about 15 years so auditioned a few. Liked the Gibson Hummingbird, in fact preferred it to a couple of high priced Martins. Then I tried the D 16GT. Loved it from the off. Beautiful build - light and playable, great sustain, frequency range and all for a good price. I'm now re-learning to play the guitar and learning some stuff I never knew with a new friend.

        Not a "beginner's" guitar.

        By TJxSJ

        from Undisclosed

Comments about Martin D-16GT Dreadnought Acoustic Guitar:

I went in ready to buy a D-15M and walked out with the D-16GT. VERY nice guitar for the price. Just because it's roughly half the price most people associate with Martin doesn't mean it's a "beginner's" guitar. I inspected this thing for a half hour and couldn't find a single construction flaw, or even any shopwear. The seams between the binding and top/sides are perfect, the neck was straight as a board, and the factory set up seems lower than other Martins I've played in the past. Its "voice" is quite interesting for a Martin--big bass, but also a bright high-end that surprised me. Very smooth and even tone that can get loud if you dig in with a pick. The narrow nut is very good for strumming and flatpicking, but one can do some fingerstyle on it, too. Purists (and snobs who can't get past the low price) will scoff at the Richlite/micarta fretboard and bridge. If you hate synthetic material on your guitar, then you'll never like the D-16GT. I like that the micarta is more eco-friendly and doesn't use wood on surfaces that don't influence tone (though that's that's open to debate). The fretboard certainly *looks* beautiful in its uniformity, and I cannot feel ANY difference between it and the ebony board on my Taylor. Also, no silly oils or ointments, just a damp cloth to clean it. I rated it low on "features" because, for all the saving on a synthetic fretboard, you don't get any electronics or a bone saddle, but I didn't want that and will install my own preferred system anyways. I will also install a bone saddle, though it already sounds excellent as is. I wish I could tell the differenc between sapele and mahogany, but that's just curiosity. Overall, an EXCELLENT solid-wood Martin for a very competitive price.

        review of D16GT

        By John Douglas Burdett

        from Fort Macleod, Alberta, Canada

Comments about Martin D-16GT Dreadnought Acoustic Guitar:

For the price it can't be beat ! It's not a D28 but sounds almost as good for less than half the price !I've had mine for over a year and it's been great. Stays in tune and gets better with age. Don't try to improve it... I tried bone pins and John Pearse strings... horrible ! Went back to the plastic pins and Martin MSP 4200's and it's back the way it should be ! I play classic country and you can't get better for Merle or Conway or Johnny or Porter or Bobby Bare or Jim Ed or even Tammy. Great instrument !
