The D-16R is a great guitar for the price. The sound, finish and workmanship, and set up from the factory is first rate.Since Taylor acoustics, with their bolt on necks became a very great noticeable sounding guitar, Martin has equaled this with their method of doing this on the D-16R.The Martin dreadnaught sound is there, and with all solid woods, the quality of the D-16R just can't be ignored. And look at the specifications that go into the making of this guitar.I play with local bluegrass and folk music bands in my area. Many of my friends playing their D-28's and D-35 Martin's are amazed at my D-16R, with it's sound and projection. And I also own an HD-28 Martin myself.I have had my D-16R about a year now. It just keeps getting better. I can't honestly praise this guitar enough.

This D16R must have slipped by QC. I'd ordered it through a friend's music store on a trade deal, so didn't buy it, thank God. My friend let me take it home for a few days to try it out. Not bad sounding capoed up the neck, but when played open, it produced a very odd, shallow, "tunneled" quality... especially the high E & B. Sounded like a cheap, laminated plywood guitar. Very weak, tinny open bass E note. Not at all what you'd expect from a Martin. Needless to say, I'm still looking. Too bad the "Quality" rating selection doesn't differentiate between construction quality and sound quality for guitars. Construction... 10. Sound... 2.

    NEW MARTIN DEVOTEE

    By Mike-Rk1va

    from Tyler, TX

I recently recieved a Martin D-16R for my birthday. What an awesome guitar! I have owned a Taylor beforethat was a great guitar, but nowhere near as good as this one. I actually went into the store to get a mandolin, but my wife told me to pick what I wanted and she'd buy it for my birthday. So I went to the martin room and played every one on the wall and ended up picking the D-16R, and I couldn't be happier.

    I enjoy playing this guitar.

    By Roberini B

I have a Gibson acoustic guitar that I bought in the '70's and when I played others none sounded or played better so never upgraded until 2 years ago. I was looking for a Martin D28 and while looking I picked up the Martin D-16R. I could not tell the difference in sound or playability and the D-16R looked better.I knew the D-28 was thought to be a better guitar and it definitly cost more, but I had to take the D16R. No regrets

    Sweet!

    By bigE

I think the D-16R is the best value in the Martin line. It's basically a D-28 with a much better looking rosette and scalloped braces. I LOVE mine for the sound; it is very balanced and responsive. Truely way beyond my expectations... get one!

    Incredible mid-priced Martin

    By Krusich44

    from Lexington, KY

After owning a DM for 4 years, I decided it was time to upgrade. I had my heart set on an HD-28 or 35, as I have played both of them over the years and was consistently awed by their warm, bassy tones. When I picked up the D-16R, I couldn't beleive how incredible it sounded. While it doesn't sound as deep or rich as a 28 or 35, the solid East Indian rosewood sides and back and hybrid X scalloped bracing pattern brings it pretty darn close, for around a thousand dollars less! Most of the specs are the same as the higher priced Martins, with some exceptions like the neck joint, bracing and some ornamentation. I look forward to playing my D-16R for years and hearing it sound better and better as the wood opens up.

    A defining Martin

    By Anonymous

    from Undisclosed

The wonderful feeling that comes from the sound and smell of this beautiful guitar, is exactly the feeling that has created loyal Martin owners. There is a powerful connection with this highly intoxicating guitar that truely induces the 'Martin' feel. The smell of the rosewood and tremors of the notes being played only enrich themselves in complex beauty as your mind and talent meld with the guitar. Truly an awesome instrument. I hardly play any other guitars now. They all seem to pale in comparison. I highly recommend a Martin purchase.

    More than happy

    By Aviator1

    from Kentucky

I've owned this for 18 months and this thing is great. Whenever I play it my wife asks me why I even own any of my other guitars. When looking for an upgrade to my S&P dreadnought I played alot of guitars and just couldn't find the right sound until this one jumped out at me. Not as good as a D41 (too much $$$) but it will hold it's own with D28's and D35's definately a great value and future classic. The only negative was the end pin hole needed to be reamed to fit the pin or it would be a 10 accross the board.

    Great guitar

    By martin4sure

This guitar has a very full and rich sound. It is by far the best Martin of the three that I own (J15, OM16, D16R). The finish is fantastic with great detail.
