Comments about Martin D-18GE Golden Era 1934 Acoustic Guitar:

This is my favorite guitar...period. Martin's D-18 GE produces a throaty, big sound that you can only get from this guitar. The adirondack top provides clear, bell like tones, and you can thumb pick this big dred just like a 000 or OM. I love it! Chris Martin still signs the inside of each top, too--I guess he know this is his best! Believe me, you won't be disappointed with this purchase. Worth every penny, and then some!

Comments about Martin D-18GE Golden Era 1934 Acoustic Guitar:

Simply the best. I have played hundreds of guitars over the years and in my stable I have a Taylor 816ce, Taylor 12 fret custom, 1940's Gibson J45, Martin HD35, HD28 and the D18GE is simply the best. It's light, loud, the best projection. What Sets this apart from all my other guitars and ones I have played is it requires little effort to get a great sound. The top is so lightly braced that with nice light fingerpicking you get great tone and you can stomp on it hard and with the adi top it does not compress or get muddy. I can finally say I found my dream guitar. The V neck is not for everyone so make sure you can handle it. Finally done looking for that perfect guitar. FYI, the finish is prone to checking and this has been an issue with Martin from 2007- current.
Occurs around the bridge and fret board, mine did check but still it's outstanding.

As the proud owner of several other high end guitars, I can honestly say that this is the best guitar investment I have ever made. The tone, sustain, and volume are just incredible with this guitar!

Comments about Martin D-18GE Golden Era 1934 Acoustic Guitar:

This is perhaps the greatest Dreadnaught I've ever played. I've never molded to a guitar so quickly in my life. It's the perfect blend of airy mids, strong bass and crisp trebles.

The V neck is a pure joy to play. My fingers are relearning where to sit on the neck and my attack on leads is slightly different, but the response is amazing once you've adapted. There is this feeling that you get from the guitar that invites you and draws you into it. It is pulling the best out of you and demanding more. That's an amazing feeling...

I bought mine used. I recommend that highly. Most folks that buy and return this high end guitars barely use them and most are in incredible condition. You save a bundle from that turnaround.

If you have to buy new, you will never be disappointed with this guitar.

Comments about Martin D-18GE Golden Era 1934 Acoustic Guitar:

You might think "I can get a guitar for cheaper that looks the same on paper" but let me tell you, this guitar is where it's at. It's the only guitar that I've ever bought where I have promised myself that I will never ever sell it, no matter what. I don't care if I'm starving in the streets and my house burns to the ground, I'm taking this guitar with me. At first glance, you might think it looks a bit simple. It's not flashy, but I appreciate that. The SOUND is what matters. The setup was great, right out of the shop. You can finger pick or strum loudy, so it's the best of both worlds there. I can't say enough good things about this guitar. There is not a single thing on it that I wish were different. That is a rarity. It's absolute perfection.

My GE sounds remarkably similar to a 1930's D18

Comments about Martin D-18GE Golden Era 1934 Acoustic Guitar:

Buy one. You won't regret it!
This model has been my "dream guitar" for a long time. I play bluegrass and this particular model is designed for this genre. It is probably the closest many of us will ever get to owning a "real deal" 30's D-18, which costs thousands and thousands more. I bought mine used, but barely played. Many folks can't get used to the contour of the neck, which is also 1 3/4 at the nut. My hands are only average sized and it is quite comfortable for me to play. I think It is also a very attractive guitar. Not ornamental by any means, but taking a look at that adirondack top, simple 18 style appointments, brazilian rosewood headstock veneer, and small abalone fret dots, you can see the expertise and total quality Martin has put into this wonderful guitar. I've been playing guitar for 35 years, and one of the reasons this guitar has been my dream guitar is due to it's amazing sound. It's one of the finest I've ever played! Mine floored me from the first song I played. My thoughts are; it is not only the handsomest guitar I've ever played, but also the oldest sounding. Unbelieveable depth, tone and volume. The harder you play, the higher the volume, without that distortion you hear on other guitars. If you invest in one you'll not regret it. Thank you Martin for such a glorious guitar!
First class guitar. Only the highest quality materials has gone into this D-18. Even cloth strpis are used to help secure the adirondack scalloped bracing in the top! It is also the lightest guitar that I've ever handled.
The only thing I would change is to put ivory or at least bone bridge pins on this fine guitar. I know Martin, like all other companies try to give the consumer the best "bang for the buck", but I am searching for a high quality set of ivory bridge pins to match the fossil ivory nut and saddle... It will only enhance that amazing sound this guitar is producing now. It's still a 10 in my book! I never plan on letting mine go.

I like the tone and playabilty of the d18ge. I have three other martins and this is byfar the best one of the ten guitars I own. Great looks sounds great feels great but I do not like the black pins I think martin could
                do better on this.
                plays great
                Great tone ,
                well built
                Great buy for this guitar.

                Best All Around Acoustic

                By Alan Singer

                from Denver

Comments about Martin D-18GE Golden Era 1934 Acoustic Guitar:

I have owned several Martins, Gibsons and a Santa Cruz. The D-18GE is the best. Loud, loud, loud with a flat pick. But also great for finger style. A pleasure to look at and a pleasure to play.
Simplicity of form and function. Beautiful sunburst top. Nice Brazillian rosewood head stock.
Just keeps on tickin'. Never had any issues. Always stays in tune.
Given the tone, quality of workmanship, and playability the guitar is a great value

                Simple and perfect

Comments about Martin D-18GE Golden Era 1934 Acoustic Guitar:

Obviously there is no perfect guitar for every possible style/player. With that said, I wanted a solid, non-flashy, ridiculously loud, resonant, mahogany/spruce guitar. I played every guitar for sale in three states until I found a 2007 ge. I haven't had the itch to look for a new guitar for two years now as the GE has ruined me for other dreads. (OM's and 00's are a different story!)

                STOPPED MY SEARCHING

                By Wildwood

Comments about Martin D-18GE Golden Era 1934 Acoustic Guitar:

I have owned a number of higher end guitars over the years including several Martins, Gibsons and Santa Cruz. Since I bought my D18GE about 8 years ago, I still enjoy playing other guitars, but it seems that I always use my GE as the one to compare all the others to. It took me a while to get used to the sunburst finish on mine, but now it seems kinda neet too.
