Martin

Since its debut in 1931, the D-28 has remained the standard by which all large-bodied, steel-string guitars are measured.

The tone of the Martin D-28 Acoustic Guitar is what separates it from all other guitars. It has a solid Sitka spruce top with glossy finish, special East Indian rosewood for the polished back and sides, and genuine ebony fingerboard and bridge. With its rich, resonant warmth and punchy volume, the D-28 is particularly well-suited to music styles requiring loud, powerful rhythm accompaniment. Includes Martin deluxe hardshell case and limited lifetime warranty.

Check the drop-down menu to the right to select colors and/or other options.

Features

  • Solid Sitka spruce top
  • Black and white rosette

  • X-bracing
  • Rosewood back and sides
  • Ebony fingerboard and bridge
  • Neck width at nut 1-11/16"
  • 25.4" scale length

Features:

The D28 is the standard for a reason.

Quality:

I had a D28 some years ago and was talked into selling it. I have been sorry about it ever since. This new D28 makes up for it and then some.

Value:

It is pricey but in many ways - you get what you pay for.

Overall:

High Quallity is the D28

Martin D-28

| Review By: charles smith | 2 months, 4 weeks ago

Features:

All solid wood.  Ebony fretboard and bridge.  Bone nut and saddle.  This guitar had all the features I was looking for.  Grover butterbean tuners are nice.  To me this guitar looks beautiful.  Some acoustics with the inlays and stuff just become to decorated for me.  This guitar fits me just right!

Quality:

Craftsmanship seems superb.  The D-28 feels solid and has a nice weight to it.  Not heavy but not gonna blow out of your hand with the wind either.  Sounds and plays beautifully.  The quality and clarity of each note is amazing.  I can hear the notes in chords so well now.

Value:

These guitars are definitely pricey but worth it in my opinion.  Compared to everything else nowadays.  I was lucky to get a gently used return from musicians friend.  Also used a 15% coupon and saved a bunch.  So considering the savings i had to give it a ten.

Overall:

I have been completely satisfied with the Martin D-28.  It is a true joy to play.  I upgraded from a D-16GT.    I liked the D-16GT a lot but the quality and clarity of the sound in The D-28 has won me over.  I know the D-28 is only gonna continue to sound better.  Thanks Musicians Friend for a great deal on a sweet acoustic!

D-28 the greatest? I testify to the simplisity of the D-18

Features:

I collect vintage instruments. I own a 1951 D-18, my brother owns a 1972 D-28. My D-18 blows his D-28 away. I admit I look for an early 60's model or earlier...in any brand of guitar. My D18 has a better neck...albeit with a rosewood fretboard, is more balanced in tone range. has more volume with clear sound. It is the ultimate flatpicking guitar and as a finger picker I find it is more responsive through bass, mid, and treble ranges. I know the history and popularity of the D-28....the well known story of Tony Rice's

over sized sound hole. I own a 1957 00017 that is all mahogany that plays better and sounds better than the D-28. If you are smart and can find an affordable pre 60's you will find you have made a very good instrument. By the way I would not even consider having either of these Martins electrified, I mike them and find they sound better. I have a 1966 Gibson Hummingbird that has been electrified, as well as a 72 Gibson J-200 that also is electrified. They are more adept at being amplified. I have looked long and hard for that elusive D-28 but find they are over priced and most generally need work. Simply put, Less is More.

ONE OF THE GREATS

Overall:
I've owned and played many d-28s for over my 30+ years experience and recently invested in a new HD-28 and although I also love it, I recently tied out a new Martin D-18, and WOW! Bought it on the spot! For what ever reason I always thought that I was a rosewood guy, but to my ear the D-18 is just more ballanced and sounded more like the sound in my head that I've been chasing all of these years but overlooked because of the plain looks of the D-18. Love them all but if I could only keep one, it would have to be the plain looking D-18. Try the D-18 out and record with it and you'll never look back. I wanted to think that the rosewood was always my favorite, but I guess looks aside, the D-18 wins out in ballanced sound, to my ear anyway.
