As close as you can get to a Golden Era D-28 without a second mortgage.

Crafted to evoke the same powerful tone and sonorous projection as a pre-WWII D-28, the Martin D-28 Marquis Acoustic Guitar differs only by using the much less scarce, and therefore more affordable, Indian rosewood instead of Brazilian rosewood. Using only premium-grade solid Indian rosewood for the back and sides and a solid Adirondack spruce top, the Marquis Guitar delivers powerful sounds with scalloped Adirondack spruce braces and forward-shifted X-bracing. A special aging toner gives the wood a vintage countenance.

The list of historically accurate details, nearly overwhelming and totally exhaustive, captures the authentic spirit of the Martin D-28: mahogany blocks/dovetail neck joint construction, slot-through saddle, herringbone binding, neck dart, zipper back marquetry, ivoroid binding, herringbone top trim, Waverly butterbean tuners, and old-style wood fiber rosette.

The Martin D-28 Marquis also has a beveled and polished tortoise pickguard; ebony bridge with long saddle; modified V-shaped neck; ebony fretboard (1-3/4" nut, 25-2/5" scale) with diamond and square inlays; and fossil ivory nut, saddle, and bridgepins (with black dots).

The Martin D-28 Marquis Acoustic Guitar is a lovingly crafted Indian rosewood version of the discontinued D-28GE.

Check the drop-down menu to the right to select colors and/or other options.

      Martin D28 Marquis

      By Stargazer55

      from Langhorne, PA

Comments about Martin D-28 Marquis Acoustic Guitar:

I've owned my Marquis since July of '08. This is my dream guitar come true. When I bought this guitar home to family & friends, they thought I was out of my mind when they heard what it cost. Then, when I played it, their jaws nearly hit the floor and they all understood & agreed that it was worth the price. I own 11 other guitars and this gets about 90% of the playing time. In my opinion, its the combination of the Adirondack top & Martin craftsmanship that make the difference. When I took it to Nashville this Summer it was a hit with all who had a chance to play and hear it. The most common reaction was "Wow!"This guitar will remain in the family well past my days.

      My Last Next Guitar

      By Martin Picker

      from South Central PA

Comments about Martin D-28 Marquis Acoustic Guitar:

This IS the holy grail of guitars. I've been through them all and this is it. I even sold a D35 I had hanging next to it because I knew it would never get played again. I put medium guage Martin SP+ strings on it and it plays like a dream. The sunburst is beautiful, and it's otherwise plain appearance is insignificant once you play a lick. I practice with a couple of others who are amped and I cut right through with no mic or anything. I've even been to the factory and met several of the craftspeople that built it. No wonder Martin is the king of the hill.

      Martin D-28

      By Guitarman-uvoWD

      from Eagle River, AK

Comments about Martin D-28 Marquis Acoustic Guitar:

Received my D-28 in Sunburst. A very beautiful guitar which was set up perfect. No quality issues to complain about. I also own a Martin D16GT and a Blueridge Carter Stanley. The D-28 has the best sound of the three. I am unhappy about the plainness of the guitar for the money. It is not any nicer than my 16GT other than the sculpted V on the backside of the headpiece. I am now wishing I would have spent a little more and bought the Martin Marquis Edition.

      Spectacular-will give you the fear

      By Wooley

      from Corpus Christi, TX

Comments about Martin D-28 Marquis Acoustic Guitar:

I have purchased a gun to protect this thing.Only flaw is the pickguard. I have seen better quality pickguards on cheaper Martins. I have put serious consideration into finding a way to de-value this thing without affecting the sound in order to ensure that I never sell it.

      a pleasure to play

      By David Morrison

      from Los Angeles, CA

Comments about Martin D-28 Marquis Acoustic Guitar:

This is the first "nice guitar" that I've ever owned. I wanted to upgrade, I saw this on the wall and gave it a try. The sound was rich, deep bass with out being muddy. The highs are clean, powerful and just as resonate as the bass notes. i could hear all of the notes in an open chord clearly. It was a religious experience. The price scared me away and I looked around for 2 months, Taylors, Martins, Gibsons..nothing compared or made the impression that the D=28 marquis made. I had to pony up. I'm so glad I did. I've had it for a year and I'm still in love with it. It beckons me daily. It's craftsmanship is a pleasure to hold.I was well worth the money, especially when you calculate the joy that you will receive for the rest of your days.

THE best guitar on the market !!!

      By Terry-Sawra

      from North Carolina

Comments about Martin D-28 Marquis Acoustic Guitar:

I bought this model after going through lots of Martins over the years. To me, this guitar is the best model Martin makes if you want the sound of a prewar 28 with the comfort of a thinner neck. Lots of bass and wonderful tones. Can't wait to hear the thing really open up after a few years of playing! The adirondack top makes this guitar sound simply wonderful.Hey, just spend the extra money and get THIS one, and it will be the last guitar you ever own!

      Serious tone and sustain

Comments about Martin D-28 Marquis Acoustic Guitar:

I've owned Gibsons, Taylors, and other Martins. this guitar has the best, most even tone of any of them. Up and down the fretboard, right our of the box, this combination of woods, strings, hardware, and sheer craft sings like no other. Chords and single notes are clear as can be, and sustain better than any acoustic I've ever seen. Sounds beautiful in person and records wonderfully through a mic. It is very expensive, but worth it for the inspiration it provides. You'll want to play, and you'll play better, with this instrument at your side. I gave it only a 4.5 for value because it really is such an expensive guitar. But you can really coax magical sounds from it, and that's just impossible to put a price on!

      D-28 Marquis

      By The Cowfool

      from New Jersey

Comments about Martin D-28 Marquis Acoustic Guitar:

This is a beautiful guitar. Great balance, great tone, you can feel the bass notes vibrating back into your chest when you play it. This is what a D-28 should look like and sound like and unfortunately not all of them do. I will also note that they come with Gotoh tuners not Waverly?s as stated in the ad. If you can get one with Waverly Tuners jump on it.
