I play in a Country/Old Rock band and I purchased the DCXE Black on 08 May 08. Words alone can't possibly express the smooth sound that emanates from this guitar. Suffice it to say, it is a complete 180 degree turn from the TGX that I was using previously. Having owned a SigmaMartin several years ago, I was so very sorry to have gotten rid of it and thought I would NEVER find a guitar that would compare. I was wrong. The Black Micarta Fingerboard, which I had never seen before, feels as good as, if not a little better than, rosewood fingerboards I have only ever used previously. In fact, being unaware what "Black Micarta" was, I called Martin and inquired if I should condition it with oil like every other guitar I have had. The Representative told me "No, Black Micarta doesn't need to be conditioned with oil because it is a composite material." Wonderful! Not only does this guitar have one of the best sounds I've heard from a guitar, but, I also no longer have to worry about the fingerboard cracking. Do yourself a favor, purchase this inexpensive yet high quality guitar and you will not be disappointed. The Prefix Pro Pickup is wonderful as well. No complaints here.

I bought this guitar brandnew and within a months time the face below the saddle started pulling away from the xbracing. I called martin and they told me to either ship it back to them at my cost or take it to a certified martin repair center. Since i was stationed at Ft Hood TX the closet repair shop was located in Austin TX and was run by a guy named Mark Erlewine, You may have heard of him. Mark Personally inspected the guitar and verified that it wasn't abused or neglected in any way shape or form, As he was loosening the strings, The bridge and saddle came detached from the face of the guitar with the pick up wire's being the only thing keeping it from falling to the floor. He immediately called martin and told them the the guitar was totally unplayable and that his opinion was that the guitar was not built properly and that it was a factory defect. CFMartin co of course claimed that it wasn't caused by their negligence, demanded that I ship the guitar back to them for their QA's to inspect. So I paid to have the guitar sent to Martin, After about a month and a half with no word from them I get a knock on the door and there's the UPS guy with my guitar, Still in the same box I had shipped it in. Martin Hadn't even open the damn box nor Inspected my guitar, Even better I was billed for the return shipping. So as far as i'm concerned, CFMartin's guitars are sub par and their customer Service sucks. If you want to get a good martin guitar..look on ebay or craigs list for and older one, You may find one where the guitar luthier actually knew what they were doing, If not, buy a Taylor or a PRS..Dont waste your money on a Martin

This guitar was everything I expected right out of the box. It looks, feels and sounds great. I play it out of my Fender Acoustasonic and couldn't be more pleased with the sound.

    Excellent

    By Ropertes

Comments about Martin DCXE X Series Cutaway Acoustic-Electric:

I acquired last year and have been nothing but pleased with it. It sounds great, is loud enough to play unplugged (at least for a small crowd, obviously not arena-sized), and the cutaway allows excellent access to the upper tier of the fretboard. I've read reviews about the body collapsing, but I've had no problems whatsoever and it doesn't appear to be headed that way. Also, the scratch-resistant polymer body is a perk while not giving it an undesirable sound. All in all, I'm very happy with this guitar.

Martin xSeries is Sweet & Smooth....

    By Mick Phipps

    from Columbus, OH (CowTown)

Comments about Martin DCXE X Series Cutaway Acoustic-Electric:

I went to the music store. A-B'd several guitars. I saw some gorgeous guitars and I was so sold on this blue quilt Ovation for about the same price range. I kept going back to that blue Ovation and the last time I went in, I was ready to buy. That's when the store told me they had one of these in. So, curiosity had me play one for 2-3 minutes then the other. I probably did this for 45 minutes. My wife eventually went shopping somewhere else and left me. Yeah, us guys know that feeling and little do the gals know that was our plan to be alone anyways while we gear hunt. he heOk, so... I played this the first time and there was literally a large quality difference in the acoustics of this Martin vs. the Ovation. Now I've owned an Ovation 12 string for probably 15 years now. So, I'm pretty comfortable with that Ovation acoustic sound. I thought it sounded semi-full, not huge but I liked Ovation and this blue quilt one was so hot and played so well. But the first time I played this Martin, there was no mistaking which guitar was going home with me. It was the Martin. The acoustic (and electronic feed) was so much more rich and warm than the Ovation. So, it took me about 3 minutes to make my actual decision. It took me about 42 more minutes to have to give up on my long time friend Ovation. I had a talk with the blue quilt Ovation and we went our own seperate ways mutally. But what I can say is this Martin paired with my 12 string Ovation in recordings is just crazy gorgeous. Both companies are great. I never thought when I was young I'd be able to get me a Martin. So, I've always settled for practicality and financial reasons. Now I'm a big boy and can afford a few extra things like a 3rd acoustic and a 5th electric guitar. Whomever says aging sucks is so wrong. Well, aging sucks but the perks seem better than being broke and gearless just to pay rent or eat. Yeah,... I'll keep telling myself that. Tomorrow I'll wish for the good ol' days again. Damn, I miss the 80's.

Great Sound, but not all Roses

    By Valentine-LnZB9

Comments about Martin DCXE X Series Cutaway Acoustic-Electric:

I grew up near Nazareth, Pennsylvania, the home of Martin guitars and I have had the pleasure of taking the tour and playing the samples. Awesome experience if you get the chance. This guitar, the DCXE, gets attention. It looks good on stage and on camera. It has the rich, full sound you would expect from a Martin. Even smells great. Weird unexpected problems like the output jack falling out and needing to be re-cinched up. I had a washer blow out on the D-string tuning peg, but that was remedied easily enough by cannibalizing one from another guitar I had lying around just for such purposes. Again, just an unexpected surprise for a Martin less than a year old. The "Martin Guitar" logo on the head is not painted on. It's just a mass of stickers that slipped and slid around until enough of the letters fell off and I decided to just remove the rest. Not a big deal, for me though. I don't like labels on my car either. It just surprised me a bit. No effect on the sound of course. Others have mentioned how the 1st E string does slide off the fret board, ... another surprise, ... but I agree, it just meant adjusting my play style a bit and it's fine. Is this guitar worth buying? Yes. Does it play well? Yes. Does it look good? Yes. Does it sound great? Yes. Will you enjoy playing it? Yes. Will it appreciate in value? I doubt it. Knowing what I know, would I buy the exact same guitar again? Yes. I am already preparing to upgrade to another Martin or a Taylor of higher value and quality, but the DCXE will be with me whenever I'm playing at home or need to carry a guitar around to studios or clubs. I wouldn't want to be hauling around a more sensitive, higher priced guitar. This is the "working musician's" guitar.

    Great Martin

Comments about Martin DCXE X Series Cutaway Acoustic-Electric:

I have had this guitar for about 4 months and I really love it. I play for a church and dry or amplified it's great. I did have to have some lock-tite put on the output jack and had to file the nut at the G string, but other than that I love it. Stays in tune extremely well and looks gorgeous.

    Undecided as yet

    By Jess-8Cn77

Comments about Martin DCXE X Series Cutaway Acoustic-Electric:

Martins have always oozed a honey sound this one (DCXE E series) is no exception it sounds luscious through my JVC boom box, the Fishman Pro EQ will find the sound you want. What drew me to this guitar (aside from the electronics and price) is that I don't have to worry about wood or finish cracks due to humidity and temperature. What good is a guitar if you don't want to take it out because of this? I do however, agree with some other reviews that the high E string tends to slip off the fretboard with a downward approach which has lead me to adjust my playing slightly to a more vertical one. I don't know just yet if I'll be keeping it or exchanging/upgrading, but with this site's 45-day return policy you can't go wrong in trying it out! P.S. Dean Markley Blue Steels strings are not just hype, try them out and be pleasantly surprised.

Comments about Martin DCXE X Series Cutaway Acoustic-Electric:

This is a great guitar when not plugged in. It is worth the price even if you never get the thing near an amp. That being said, when you amp this guitar...it is the best sounding guitar I have ever played. It sounds just like one of the $3,000 Martins, but much less cash.

    Great Sounding Guitar

    By Rocco-2wI9R

    from Indianapolis,IN

Comments about Martin DCXE X Series Cutaway Acoustic-Electric:

I bought this guitar about 1 1/2yrs ago and I'm very pleased with the performance in a live setting. The guitar sounds very nice for a man-made guitar and is very durable for travelling. What you sacrifice in looks, you more than make up for with playability and sound. The sound is awesome plugged in and works well as an acoustic or electric with the Fishman electronics plugged into an amp. Note:(You will probably need a feedback buster if playing thru an electric amp or effects processor). If you're on a budget and need a good all around guitar, this guitar is well worth the price.
