Martin

Legendary features and craftsmanship in a rosewood dreadnought.

Many of Martin's legendary 1930s features are brought together in this classic rosewood dreadnought acoustic guitars. Adirondack spruce, long prized for its volume, projection and clarity, is used for the top, as well as the crucial braces supporting the soundboard. The guitar's 1-3/4" modified V-neck, with traditional diamond volute, is crafted from Spanish cedar — a favorite of Martin craftsmen since the 1800s. Other classic features include wood herringbone trim, ivoroid binding, long pattern diamond and square fingerboard inlays, and a nitrate tortoise colored pickguard. Vintage toner is added to the highly polished lacquer finish to give your Martin guitar an appropriate antique look. Includes case.

What bass response!

By Zack Kennedy

from Hawaii

Comments about Martin HD-16R Dreadnought Acoustic Guitar:

This is the guitar that I keep next to my chair in the living room. I cannot walk by without picking it up and playing a Johnny Cash or Moody Blues tune. Clean, articulate, and tonal quality that ONLY a Martin can provide. Except for my HD-28vs, this is the BEST!
The only reason I rate it a 9 is I have an HD-28vs that is in a league of its own; however, the HD-16r, from the first chord I played, is a real 'keeper'.
As with all Martins, the quality is superb. Martin's rock!
For less than $2K, this is one of the best Martin values available.

Almost perfect

By boomer5

Comments about Martin HD-16R Dreadnought Acoustic Guitar:

I bought this guitar when I went to buy a D-28. I played the HD-28, the D-28 and the HD-16. The HD-16 completely blew away the D-28 for tone and was close although different than the HD-28. This difference was the mellow tone of the HD-28 compared with the snap of the HD-16 from the adi top. The neck was also much easier to play (for me) than either of the 28s. The only bad thing was that the guitar had the same white scratches an earlier reviewer mentioned. It is like they are scratches in the stain not the finish. These were just on the sides. The back and top were perfect. Anyway, the guitar sounded so incredible that I am (happily ??) living with the scratches.

What's going on, Martin?

By Jimmyjuju

from Northeast

Comments about Martin HD-16R Dreadnought Acoustic Guitar:

This is beyond a doubt the best sounding Martin guitar I have ever played. It is also one of the best looking. I like the wide nut and the "v" neck. The Adirondack spruce top and braces make this a favorite with me, and the vintage toner is beautiful. Now for the bad news. I am on guitar number four. The first had strings that were not properly spaced on the neck, and the case reeked of a chemical (really bad). The second had what appeared to be white scratches on the side underneath the finish, and the hinges on the case were installed cockeyed. The third was the best sounding, with beautiful dark rosewood, perfect string alignment, and a perfect case. But the neck had multiple holes or pits in the wood which might have been unfilled pores. They were very distracting as your hand ran up and down the back of the neck. I like this model so much, I don't want any other. What's going on with Martin's quality control? I wanted to keep the last one, and called Martin to see if it could be repaired under warrantee, and was told that it was cosmetic, and not covered! Oh yes, two of the guitars had fret buzz.

New Golden Era

By Bluegrass Man-B.lPm

from Port Townsend, WA

Comments about Martin HD-16R Dreadnought Acoustic Guitar:

This should be considered as the new golden era for Martin guitars due to the high quality and value for the money of guitars like the HD16 Adirondack. I have been playing mine every day for the past six months and it sounds better than ever. The Adirondack top is very high quality and gives the guitar the deep bottom sound that Martins are famous for - but it also has a very balanced sound - treble and mid-range tones are right there with the deep bass. I am amazed at the value in this guitar for the price.

Adirondack

By Jake-cBX7s

Comments about Martin HD-16R Dreadnought Acoustic Guitar:

what an amazingly crafted and elequent guitar! This is the first Martin that I bought. I am amzed at the quality and tone that this guitar puts out. The sound is so full that it could fill any room. I was perticually impressed with the attention to detail that was put into it. Another great feature is the V neck which allows easy movement throught the neck. This is a great buy and will not be my last purchase from Martin.
