Comments about Martin HD-28VS Guitar:
I bought a Martin D-35 in 1973 (new) and thought if I ever found a better sounding guitar, I'd buy it. Once when the D-35 was back at the Martin factory for a re-fret, I played an HD-28-V and thought it sounded better, so I bought it. When the D-35 came home, I figured out I was wrong. The HD-28-V was nice, but I still liked the D-35 better. Then I played an HD-28-VS. I played it along side the D-35, just to make sure, and I had to have one. There are some suttle differences between the HD-28-VS and other guitars. Perhaps because of the location of the bridge on the body? This guitar has only 12 frets clear of the body (as compared to the Martin Dreadnought's usual 14) which moves the bridge closer to the tailstock. Anyway, what ever it is, this guitar seems to have the strong, firm tone of a really old D-28 in the upper registers, but it has an excellent bottom end as well. The bass has the low, mellow tone like a D-35, but with more power. Excellent sustain as well. I now have both the D-35, and the HD-28-VS, and will probably keep them both until I drop dead. The HD-28-VS is without a doubt the best sounding guitar I have ever played. I prefer it way over the D-41 (and I've played several) or any Gibson I've ever picked up. These are not cheap by any means, but worth every penny in my book.
Comments about Martin HD-28VS Guitar:
Absolutely the best sounding guitar I ever had in my hands. I own several Martins and a Gibson and the 28 is by far the better for playability and pure solid sound.
Comments about Martin HD-28VS Guitar:
I had previously owned an HD-28VS and had to sell it due to some serious financial needs for my parents. I really did hate to see it go. Fortunately, I have purchased another one and am awaiting delivery. The feel of this guitar is fantastic and the sound is very pure and mellow. I play in an acoustic praise band at our church and this guitar fits in very well, not over powering. I am planning on putting a Fishman acoustic pickup on it for regular gigs. Stringing it with 11's makes it great for blues picking and bending. Can't wait to get my new one. Would highly recommend this guitar. A little pricey, but well worth it!
