I?m sorry, but I must write a review contrary to many others. First I bought the Little Martin because of other reviews exalting the tone and playability. Out of the box I found the strings were not wound correctly on the tuners and that the fit and finish was not as good as the very inexpensive Mitchell MD 100 it was to replace for travel. The tone was more like a ukulele than a fine guitar, albeit a ?Little?. Although it was easy to tune right out of the box and it stayed in tune longer than I expected, it simply sounded tinny. The size, for me also made it difficult to hit the proper chords and when a capo was used, it was difficult to play chords that were closed to the capo. Now I am very fond of Martins, as I have one from the early ?50?s, so I know a good Martin when I play it. I was also disappointed after watching several Martin videos about quality and their American heritage, finding that it was assembled out of the country. I will however, try a larger Martin as I am very fond of most of their products. Just not this one.
I bought this guitar at Best Buy in Mall Of America. I was traveling and missed my own guitar that was at home, so I decided to pick this up. It was between the LXM Martin or the Baby Taylor. I tested both for tuning, sound, ect. and the Martin WON. This guitar is GREAT. The sound is AWSOME. The neck is amazingly smooth to slide up and down on, I'd say its almost better then the love of my life Yamaha guitar. If your looking for a decent travel guitar or one for a child THIS IS THE ONE TO GO WITH!
I bought my Little Martin a few months ago, and I'm still finding new things to like about the sound. So much fun to keep it in the car as it takes little space and doesn't mind getting cooked in the sun and being roughed up. Tried the other widely-available travel guitars (taylor, washburn, rogue), and they don't come close in sound or playability.
I just bought this little axe for my son's birthday present. He is only 7 and I had planned to get him something less expensive but after playing this amazing little martin I decided to go ahead and buy it because I want to play it too. I have a washburn f-10s and side by side the little martin packs just as much volume and has far better tone and is still small enough for my young son to reach the first fret with ease. Now I will probley have to battle with my son to play it until I can save enough to by my own martin!
I picked up this guitar on a whim before an international trip to the Philippines and I couldn't have been more satisfied. The smaller scale got me through airport security in a breeze and fit perfectly in the overhead compartment. The gig bag is also durable enough to protect the guitar from other luggage being shoved into the overhead. Surprisingly, sound was not compromised at all - in fact, it can keep up just fine with my Martin 000x1, which looks exactly like a normal sized model of the LXM. No buzzing, action low, and tones are bright. Great for lugging around to the beach, car rides, tours, and informal jams outdoors. Would definitely recommend to the musician that needs to play everywhere.
Ok...this is a baby guitar...and its completely synthetic material...that being said, "I LOVE IT, ITS AWESOME!" After trying the Taylor, the Yamaha and the Martin I found myself drawn to the Martin again and again. I was looking for a lightweight, easy to deal with travel guitar cause I'd had enough sweating everytime I took my Larivee parlor around with me (not to mention the heavier hardshell case). This little guitar, the Martin LMX, is amazing for what it is...I even tried the LX1 solid top Martin and still found this to do the job, that is I didn't notice much difference in sound quality. The rest of my guitars are big dreadnoughts, but for flying around visiting friends/doing business and always having a guitar handy...seriously you can't go wrong with the Martin LMX. I'm thrilled with it and play it for fun even at home with plenty of other guitars to choose from. I plan on starting my kids on it when they're old enough. Thanks sincerely to Martin for a perfectly designed product for a specific need that meets their high standard...as usual.
