Martin's legendary tone at an extraordinary price.

The Martin OM-1GT Orchestra Acoustic Guitar is designed with Martin's legendary tone, craftsmanship and playability with extraordinary value. It features solid sapele spruce back and sides, a solid Sitka spruce top and is polished to a high gloss.

Tonally, the advanced "hybrid" scalloped X-bracing delivers a powerful punch – clear ringing treble and defined bass – unique to Martin's 1 Series guitars. Compared to a dreadnought, the OM-1GT Orchestra Model produces a tone that is brighter in the midrange, less deep in the bass with clear articulation in all positions.

Comments about Martin OM-1GT Orchestra Acoustic Guitar:

This guitar is extremely comfortable. Most acoustics I have played are too large. The neck is not glossed, which I prefer. Glossed necks feel sticky . They also seem harder to slide up and down the neck while doing barre chords. The picture doesn't do it justice. The finger board, bridge, and body are much darker. And the details in the wood are very beautiful. No fret buzz, stays in tune, frets don't stick out, and sounds great. My only complaint is that the sanding on the neck is a little rough in a couple spots. Slipped through quality control.

Comments about Martin OM-1GT Orchestra Acoustic Guitar:

Very pleased with this guitar. Martin has done a great job making a well made and good sounding inexpensive guitar. Although not the ultimate Martin OM guitar, it comes close enough and is a heck of a lot of guitar for under 1K. Good tone and volume and well balanced up and down the neck. My only complaint is that the action is a little low for my taste. If you have a heavy attack, you may need to get the action adjusted. I would not be concerned about the synthetic materials Martin is using. This guitar sounds just fine to me and is worth trying out.

      Great Guitar

      By booksbrown

Comments about Martin OM-1GT Orchestra Acoustic Guitar:

Overall, I think this is a great instrument. I enjoy playing it as often as I can. I checked out lots of others at a local shop and the Martin sound really stood out. I know there are much more expensive guitars out there, many with beautiful inlays and bindings and such. But, for sound alone, this guitar is exceptional, and for my budget, a great value as well. I got a very good deal on it. And, It looks pretty sweet too.
I purchased the left-handed version of this guitar, but this review applies as well to the right-handed version too. As a guitarist, I am a hobbyist, but I would like to become a professional musician one day. As such, for the past 3 months I have been searching for an acoustic guitar that might be considered entry level for an intermediate to professional player. I really think I found that in the Martin OM-1GT. First, the guitar is an OM size, which means orchestra model. I didnt care about the name as much as the size. This guitar is smaller than a standard dreadnought, which makes it very comfortable to play sitting down. My arm does not get numb hanging over the top edge. Though smaller, this guitar kicks out a lot of volume and has that inimitable Martin sound. You wont find that deep bass of a dreadnought body. But, overall it has great balance between the bass, midrange, and treble. This guitar doesn't have a lot of bling, like binding on the neck or abalone inlay on the rosette. In terms of appearance it's basic, but classic. This model is also a step up from the previous OM-1 because Martin added a gloss top finish: simply beautiful to look at and protects the wood better. The sides and back are a gorgeous African Mahogany. And, the neck is a multilayered plywood called Stratabond: a material used for high tension crossbows. Apparently some Martin aficionados dont like these necks: probably for aesthetic reasons. I think it looks fine, plays fine, and makes for a very strong neck. If it had an accident, the neck is not going to break or crackever. For me, at this stage, I find the neck to be a bit thinner than I would prefer. But, I have learned through playing that this neck shape is perfect for chords where you really have to spread those fingers.
Every string on this guitar rings out. Sometimes it sounds like bells. Played another way it almost has a banjoish twang. The sound is complex and rich. The nut spacing is 1 inch, which makes this guitar perfect for finger picking. But, it sounds fabulous when strummed as well. I have been playing both styles since I received it and I am very happy with the clear ringing tone. The top just vibrates forever when strummed. I love that. Fit and finish on this guitar is excellent. Exactly what one would expect from Martin. The guitar arrived set up and I dont think it needs any adjustment. The tuners work perfectly and the guitar stays in tune well. This model comes with its own plush case.
I think this has to be one of the best values in really well-made guitars. I have not found another guitar with all the qualities of this one for a similar price. I was really at the limit of my budget with this guitar, but it was worth it.
