OVERVIEW

X Series Guitars feature patented high pressure laminate (HPL) back and sides with a solid Sitka spruce top, patented mortise and tenon neck construction, and professionally installed Fishman electronics. The result: great-sounding, great-playing guitars, that are environmentally friendly, and priced to fly out the door. This is one of Martin's best values ever. The X Series affirms Martin's commitment to providing an affordable and competitive option to players dedicated to live performance.

The 6-string Martin DX1RAE acoustic-electric guitar features a D-14 platform, a dreadnought body design producing big, round sound. Pairing the Sitka spruce top with the Indian rosewood-pattern HPL back and sides, the DX1RAE guitar belts out rich clarity and plenty of projection. The mortise and tennon neck joint ensures solid construction of the guitar, with optimal resonant tone, while eliminating drop-off in the finer dynamics.

The Martin guitar's stratabond neck is a multilayered wood creation, bonding layers of wood under extremely high pressure. The material is then carved and finished in a conventional manner. The end result is a very strong neck that provides definition and articulate sustain from note to note.

The modified low oval neck shape, 25.4" scale, 1-11/16" nut width, and 16" radius provide comfort and dexterity when performing intricate movements and progressions along the black Richlite fretboard.

This X Series Martin acoustic guitar features proven Sonicore pick-up technology with the Fishman Sonitone system featuring "easy access" volume and tone controls conveniently and strategically located just inside the sound hole.

Dressed in a satin finish and featuring chrome tuners, chrome hardware, this guitar has the look and sound of a highly collectible Martin guitar, but goes for a price that anyone can afford. Embrace the dream of owning your very own Martin guitar, at a price that is too good to pass up.

The Martin DX1RAE guitar arrives stage ready-just plug them in and play. All X Series guitars also include a Limited Lifetime Warranty.

Martin has always made prudent use of natural resources, especially rare or endangered tonewoods. At the same time, it's committed to building guitars of superior tone and playability that are affordable to every guitarist. The X Series more than meets both of these criteria.

Overall, this was the best gift I ever bought my husband. I bought it as a combo Father's Day/15th Anniversary gift. He says I never have to think of buying him another gift! He thanks me often, especially after playing it. This was one of the best big ticket (for us) purchases I have purchased without input from my husband. I am so glad I bought the DX1RAE for him. Excellent for the price.
On another note, it comes in a cardboard box to your door. I bought him a
Gator GL-Dread Lightweight Dreadnought Guitar Case from this site as well. The case works great with this guitar.
I was looking for an acoustic electric guitar for my husband to play different places, but mainly at a medium sized church. This dreadnought was the perfect choice. The installed Fischman pickup works great. It is installed in the sound hole with the battery compartment velcroed inside. My husband cannot easily reach in and change the battery, which makes it a little inconvienent, but he plans on changing the battery everytime he changes the strings.
I purchased a Fischman Mini Loudbox amp for him and it sounds great inside the building or at home in the living room.
This guitar sounds great plugged into an amp or alone.
I was concerned that because the instrument was made in Mexico and not the USA that the quality would be compromised (yet I knew we couldn't afford a USA model right now). But the sound and playability is excellent (according to my husband). From the first time my husband played it, I can definitely tell the difference from his other guitar, which is an Alvarez. This DXR1AE has a warm, yet bold tone. It has that Martin signature sound even though it is made of compressed wood.. The way they compress the wood for the neck gives it an eye-appealing look. You can go on the Martin Website and see the process done.
I knew if I was going to buy my husband an acoustic electric guitar, it would have to be a low end model. I checked low end models from different companies, such as Taylor, Yahmaha, Gibson. The Martin X series had the best reviews for the price. And I watched YouTube videos of people playing them to get an idea of sound. Now I can write a review that for the price, you can't be beat. Listening to this guitar, people think I paid more, especially with it being a Martin, but when I tell them, they are impressed. The sound and quality for the price is amazing.

Cheap finish will allow top to discolor where your arm comes in contact with the guitar. The only thing worse than the finish is the Customer Service at Martin.
They defended the poor finish by saying, "it was in keeping with the price". I was more bothered by their not listening than their disagreeing with me. I dealt with two customer service people who didn't even attempt to care. BE CAREFUL and but a real guitar like a Yamaha LL6M for less

Comments about Martin X Series 2015 DX1RAE Dreadnought Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

I had always wanted a Martin acoustic but the price always scared me away but then I heard about the X Series and decided to look into this series a little more and ended up finding a gem of a guitar in the process. It plays great and that Martin tone. All I can say is wow.

Comments about Martin X Series 2015 DX1RAE Dreadnought Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

The pick up was partially removed during delivery. This was due to the 9 volt battery coming out of its pouch and it was pulling on the pick up wires. I had to remove the strings to get the batt back in its pouch. The pic up did go back into place and it's fine. I had to remove the strings again immediately be use the bridge bone fell out while I was replacing the pickup. While I was putting the string back on the B string broke at the tuning machine. MF over nighted a replacement set. A lot of trouble but this guitar is worth it.

Comments about Martin X Series 2015 DX1RAE Dreadnought Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

A fantastic sounding Martin that is affordable with a Fishman Sonitone. Stop complaining about good sounding guitars that do not pass your standards. This is the best guitar in its price range and if you are meticulous about everything, get it set up and find the strings that will satisfy your ears. I would like to thank C.F. Martin for creating an affordable Martin product. Yes I do own a few guitars and this will replace my daily use, a Martin HD28V and I own other Martin's and various acoustics and will not stop buying as long as I see good sounding guitars whatever the brand. All guitars are unique and never the same and you just need to find the 1 and set it up to your standards and with this Martin, you can do it 100%. Hope this review helps you decide.

Comments about Martin X Series 2015 DX1RAE Dreadnought Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

First and foremost-I never thought I would own a Martin. I've owned a number of different brands of guitars over my years of playing and then my brother-in-law brought his Martin that sounded more than amazing! Only one problem-it was out of my price range. That only put an exclamation point of why I didn't own one.
So a few months later I get an e-mail from MF and I saw this DX1RAE- After thinking for a minute or two-I pulled the trigger- To my surprise it was here the next day. Now in my books-that's fast. The guitar sounded utterly fantastic out of the box-even for my plinking and sound-deaf ears!
I love reading the reviews before I make a purchase- And they were right! My B-I-L played it and he was very impressed with the sound and ease of playing- and he's a straight shooter.
So-thank you Martin for this great guitar-not to mention the special price- so people that watch their pennies can have the opportunity of owning such a marvelous instrument-Hay Hey-like me now-
        It is a Wowzer!!

Comments about Martin X Series 2015 DX1RAE Dreadnought Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

I bought my Dx1rae a few months ago from a local shop and was originally very impressed with the tone of the guitar. But after bringing it home I noticed it's tone and projection wasn't as good as I'd originally thought. I have a solid mahogany alverez with a cutaway that I upgraded with ebony bridge pins and a few other improvements and it surpasses the Dx1in many of the treble and high end notes. I originally bought the Dx1 looking for a guitar with a rosewood style response with a lower base expecting a decreased treble response however the tone of the laminate just doesn't stand up to real wood. Also this guitars finish feels corse on the back and kind of plastic. My favorite feature of this guitar is the pick up it is absolutely phenomenal and very low profile. In conclusion you can't really beat real woods feel and sound but the Dx1rae has a pretty good sound for a laminate guitar.

Comments about Martin X Series 2015 DX1RAE Dreadnought Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

I bought a condition 1 and I am very pleased with the guitar. I have to mention, that to me, it is a very mellow dark sounding guitar. Which is perfect for me because, coming from a classical background, I play with my nails, so it take the "brightness" of that and mellows it out. However it does lack a bit of projection. Being a soft touch compiles this issue, but if need be, it does have a pick up.
It played perfect out of the box, it was even in tune. Action was good and the frets were finished at the ends and no buzzing anywhere. Everywhere else the guitar has a good fit and finish. I could not find an issue anywhere.
Being on a budget I am happy with my choice and it does fit nicely in the Musicians gear Dreadnought case (super slight movement if shaken).

For the money, Martin has made a great value in this guitar. Despite the fact that this guitar is made in Mexico, the Martin quality and sound remains! Straight out of the very well packed box, the guitar sounds wonderful. You cannot beat the price. I am glad I got past the "made in Mexico" thing, and bought this guitar. It's a keeper!
