OVERVIEW

Hawaiian koa paired with Fishman electronics, offered at a great price.

Martin guitars from the X Series feature patented high pressure laminate (HPL) back and sides with a solid Sitka spruce top, patented mortise and tenon neck construction, and professionally installed Fishman electronics. The result: great-sounding, great-playing guitars, that are environmentally friendly, and priced to fly out the door. This is one of Martin's best values ever. The X Series affirms Martin's commitment to providing an affordable and competitive option to players dedicated to live performance.

The 6-string Martin DXK2AE acoustic-electric guitar features a D-14 platform, a dreadnought body design producing big, rounded sound. Pairing the Hawaiian koa-pattern HPL top with the koa-pattern HPL back and sides, the DXK2AE belts out rich clarity and plenty of projection. The mortise and tennon neck joint ensures solid construction of the guitar, with optimal resonant tone, while eliminating drop-off in the finer dynamics.

The Martin guitar's stratabond neck is a multilayered wood creation, bonding layers of wood under extremely high pressure. The material is then carved and finished in a conventional manner. The end result is a very strong neck that provides definition and articulate sustain from note to note.

The modified low oval neck shape, 25.4" scale, 1-11/16" nut width, and 16" radius provide comfort and dexterity when performing intricate movements and progressions along the black Richlite fretboard.

This X Series acoustic-electric guitar features proven Sonicore pick-up technology with the Fishman Sonitone system featuring "easy access" volume and tone controls conveniently and strategically located just inside the sound hole.

Dressed in a satin finish and featuring chrome tuners, chrome hardware, this guitar has the look and sound of a highly collectible Martin, but goes for a price that anyone can afford. Embrace the dream of owning your very own Martin guitar, at a price that is too good to pass up.

The Martin DXK2AE guitar arrives stage ready-just plug them in and play. All X Series guitars also include a Limited Lifetime Warranty.

Martin has always made prudent use of natural resources, especially rare or endangered tonewoods. At the same time, it's committed to building guitars of superior tone and playability that are affordable to every guitarist. The X Series more than meets both of these criteria.

this is a martin guitar that i plan on having for a long time. i think this guitar should serve me well at home and out on stage. yes it is barebones, but with an eq and a decent amp or pa, this thing shines. ive gotten many compliments on the playability, sound and looks. if you want to spend this price on a guitar and want to do something a little different. try this guitar out. my skepticism was wiped away when i played the first chord on it. i give it an A
this is a barebones guitar. no fret markers or pickguard. has a fishman sonitone pickup system in it, which has no eq, just volume and tone. but dont let it fool you, it still sounds amazing plugged into my pa system. the hpl top," back and sides seem durable and ""solid"". i use this guitar with my gen 1 fishman aura and it sounds amazing. i will be giging this guitar for sure.
this guitar was built by martin"," so you would expect quality. you definatly get it with this guitar. i was skeptical to get a ""low end guitar"" from martin. but by far the playabilty and sound out performs my ovation cs-257 and any other guitar ive picked up in that price range. everything was built nice", no fret burrs, no binding or bracing flaws. everything is straight. innotation is on point and stays in tune. VERY good quality
for the price i paid) this is a good value, maybe they could have put a better preamp in it, or gave it a little more features like a solid wood top, but hey its a low priced Martin that you can plug in and play out.

The sound of this guitar has me baffled. On one hand it seems vibrant and boomy; on the other hand it lacks spectrum. It seems almost brassy at times, and the lack of any wood, let alone solid tone woods is unfortunate. Soft finger-picking is disappointing, since it has no resonance in that mode. Doesn't blend with vocals well in my opinion. I like the neck, but hate the look, feel and sound of what has been well described as a formica guitar. Don't skimp on the solid tone woods. I'm still surprised Martin would put their name on a guitar that has no wood. Don't buy it for the name. Pretend it's a no-name and evaluate from there.

Comments about Martin X Series 2015 DXK2AE Dreadnought Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

Was turned on to this guitar by Mike of Madd Mike's Guitars in Arroyo Grande , California .I was looking at buying a Rain Song guitar for the humid climate in Ecuador South America where I have another home and a Rock Band .This X series guitar from Martin blew me away with the amped sound and action .Now ,don't get me wrong ,cause I own 14 guitars .8 acoustic electric and 6 electric hard bodies made by Fender ,Gibson ,Ovation Adamas ,Tacoma ,Takamine Taylor and Martin to name a few .My Martin is a Custom shop single cut away D-18 with Koa back and sides .The X series isn't in the same league as the D-18 ,but holds it's own on stage and the humid climate of Ecuador .I couldn't even think of bringing my custom D-18 to Ecuador ,but the X series handles the humidity with no problem .A great guitar for my gigs down in South America .Couldn't live without it .Thanks Martin.

Deep, rich, warm tone -- a good buy.

Comments about Martin X Series 2015 DXK2AE Dreadnought Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

Right, I'll start with that I'm a beginner when it comes to guitars. However, I've played the violin since I was a small child, and I have a great love for all things strings.

I helped one of my good friends (an experienced bassist and semi-experienced guitarist) select this guitar over the summer. It was clearly the best within his price range. Over the past few months he's had it, he has been extremely impressed with it. He has had a bit of trouble with occasional buzzing on lower frets and lower strings during chords, but this is very minor for the overall tone and quality of the instrument.

As impressed as I was with his, I decided to buy its copy. I've been nothing but happy with it. Any shortcomings are due to my inexperience as a player.

Overall impression: if you're looking for a step up from a "beginner guitar" and want a warm, rich sound with low notes that ring, this instrument is one you should consider.

      DXK2 Review

      By YepThatsMe

      from Wisconsin

Comments about Martin X Series 2015 DXK2AE Dreadnought Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

I recieved a Martin DXK2 back in 2007 as a gift so that I had a quality guitar to use for the music I was providing for my grandfathers funeral. They no longer make the DXK2 because it is now the DXK2AE, meaning they added electronics and it's only available commercial like that. I cannot comment on the electronics, as mine was not equipped, but I can comment on the rich tone, beautiful wood grain, and excellent playability of this guitar. I've owned and played many, many guitars, and this economically priced Martin is really a gem among acoustic guitars. I've played the really high dollar guitars in shops, and they might have more shiny bits, but when it comes to being a working mans acoustic guitar, this thing shines. Even with the HPL front, back, and sides, it has a full, rich tone that projects very nicely. As Zac Brown sings, Stronger than steel and wood, and seen me through the bad and good. When I'm hanging by a string, every little thing is understood; Between Martin and me.

Very beautiful guitar, I've gotten nothing but compliments. Just bare bones electronics, a tone wheel and volume wheel inside the sound hole, but doesnt deaden the sound when its not plugged in. Just good quality Martin guitar. Havent found anything to complain about.
