Had this guitar for a few months now, played several live shows and it has absolutely shined every time. Playing through a Fishman Loudbox Mini 60W and it sings (the DX1AE has Fishman pickups, what a combo!). Only negative I've realized about this guitar is that it's EXTREMELY prone to denting/scuffing on the front (unfinished Sitka spruce top). You can honestly put a fingernail into the wood and mark it. But still, I absolutely NEVER plan on selling this guitar because it sounds better every time I pick it up. One of the fullest, richest tones I've ever come across in my 10+ years of playing, not to mention the price / features. The back and sides, however, are SUPER resilient and are almost dent proof (high-pressure laminate is ridiculously strong), so that's the compromise you make, I suppose. All in all, zero regrets with this purchase. Still can't find a better sounding guitar -- especially in the acoustic-electric category -- at this price range. Cheers.

Comments about Martin X Series DX1AE Acoustic-Electric Guitar:
IT' hard to say anything bad about this guitar, after all it's a MARTIN!!!
Comments about Martin X Series DX1AE Acoustic-Electric Guitar:
This guitar has an amazing, full sound--very lively. It's a pleasure to play and you can't beat the price for this high quality guitar. I have yet to plug it in and play it, but it has plenty of volume without it!
Comments about Martin X Series DX1AE Acoustic-Electric Guitar:
I was in a guitar shop & tried this Martin out; when I asked the price, I wonder if my eyes bulged. Wrap it up! Very fine tone, and playability is so smooth. I'm surprised where it was made would ever be an issue, Martin quality is beyond reproach. Teat the finish with reasonable care!
Comments about Martin X Series DX1AE Acoustic-Electric Guitar:
I purchased this as my first "good" acoustic guitar. I have now owned it for two years, and it is an incredible instrument. It has that great rich and loud Martin sound, but for way less money. The action is perfect, and it's a joy to play. It looks great, and sounds even better. It blows all the other guitars in the price range out of the water. The built in pickup is superb, it sounds great plugged in. I love this guitar, and will keep it a long time. The only bad thing is that the top dents easily, but it's not that big a deal. The sides and back are laminate, but that doesn't effect it at all. I love the bonded neck, it's strong and beautiful. I would suggest this to anyone from a beginer to a pro.

Comments about Martin X Series DX1AE Acoustic-Electric Guitar:
Say what you will about it being made outside the US but good luck finding a better sounding guitar with a bona fide reputation and higher quality craftsmanship/hardware at this price. Be sure to adjust the truss rod to suit your liking and you will reap the benefits of this guitar for years to come. Words cannot describe the playability, tone and beauty of this guitar -- not to mention when plugged in. You will not regret this purchase.
Comments about Martin X Series DX1AE Acoustic-Electric Guitar:
Very well made instrument. Classic Martin sound, look and feel. Solid, quality construction. Full body really brings out well rounded bottom end tone, higher notes are sweet and clear. This is not an all solid wood guitar, the body is a laminate they call HPL with a solid spruce top. The fingerboard and bridge are richlite. It is factory built in Mexico not hand made in PA. (all of which Martin is upfront about and the packaging and interior label are quit clear) Which I take as a trade off for getting a true Martin sound for less that $500. Far above Pac-rim guitars in the same price range.
Comments about Martin X Series DX1AE Acoustic-Electric Guitar:
Been playing for over ten years. I spent the last year or so shopping around for a new acoustic after the neck warped on my old workhorse. Initially I only considered all solid wood guitars, but this one caught my eye because of its durability. I was so surprised by how good it sounded. This guitar is extremely simple, which is something I prefer, but some don't. No fancy inlay or binding. The solid spruce top and HPL back and sides actually sound really good. The tone is very balanced, mellow, and smooth. This is not a "cannon" and does not have the metallic voice of some guitars (like Taylors). Plugged in it sounds very good too. The factory setup was very good; pretty low action and no buzzing at all. Intonation is spot on. The Stratabond neck and Richlite fretboard feel really good.I am glad I went ahead and picked this one up. I recommend giving it a shot if you get a chance. It's not for everyone, but what is? It has a lot going for it and the price is great.
Comments about Martin X Series DX1AE Acoustic-Electric Guitar:
This is a great guitar, it's my favorite Martin having owned several high end ones. Yes it's made in Mexico and has been for years but this is not a fly by night operation and the quality is really good, Martin good. They play easy, sound superb and there is nothing out there to compare it to.
Comments about Martin X Series DX1AE Acoustic-Electric Guitar:
Features: Laminate back and sides, Sonitone electronics, not the most lavish features but they get the job doneQuality: The guitar came well put together, electronics work fine, plays great.Value: This is where this guitar really shines. For this price you won't find a guitar that sounds this great. Taylor Big Baby comes close, but it's smaller scale and this guitar really puts out a lot of sound on open chords which is where, I feel, it shines. The action came great from the factory, EXCELLENT value!Overall: Great guitar for the money, if you need an acoustic that'll plug in that you won't feel awful when you get it a little dirty, this is the one. Not a cadillac, but if you want some rare Peruvian Rosewood, you may want to put up a little more than five hundred.
