Single-cutaway mahogany with dual P90s.

The Michael Kelly Patriot Special is an electric guitar that's aptly named, as anyone who has played a guitar with P90 pickups sunk into a thick mahogany body can tell you. The unique, melodic bite of these pickups keeps guitarists coming back again and again.

Like other electric guitars in Michael Kelly's Patriot Series, the Patriot Special breaks the price barrier and includes excellent features: like a sustain enhancing set neck, rock-solid Grover tuners and a wrap-around bridge. One volume and one tone control keep settings simple and let you concentrate on rocking America.

Comments about Michael Kelly Patriot Special Electric Guitar:

Michael Kelly Patiot Special... P90 equipped guitar. Mahogany neck set into a beautifully bound mahogany body. Has a one piece wrap around bridge. This is a beautiful guitar. The craftsmanship is very precise and I could find no flaws anywhere on it, cosmetic or otherwise. The neck to body marriage is perfect. Guitar was set up pretty well out of the box, I lowered the action a hair, but it was fine as-was. I've had it for a few weeks now.. First impressions out of the box was that it was remarkably light. The body is far, far thinner than a les paul (and thinner than other patriots, as well) and very light. The neck is thin and fast. The guitar is TINY bit neck-heavy but it's so slight that it doesn't bother me. My other first impression, before even plugging it in, was how resonant the guitar is. You can tell a lot by playing an electric unplugged... This is a very solid, precise, incredibly resonant instrument. It's very musical. It's a joy to play.P90s sound great. I had my doubts about them, but they really sound nice through my carvin nomad and my jekyll & hyde pedal as well as through my crunch box. P90s are technically single coils, but the actual tonality seems to feel like a cross between a humbucker and a single. The sound is a bit fatter than typical single coils, and yet there's a ring, a shimmer, a midrange *bark* on these that humbuckers don't posess. There's an incredible note clarity, individual strings have a great potential to be heard clearly. Very sensitive and dynamic. These particular pickups are pure vintage, it seems to me, they have a pretty tame output and lots of character. Run some gain through them and they get a bit noisy, but they retain their character and sound amazing -- and they can really growl at you if you make them. These, on the whole, are incredibly versatile pickups and could be used for just about any application. People say if you like distortion you should stick with humbuckers -- I don't entirely agree, I feel these are awesome overdriven/distorted. They retain such character and clarity and punch even when distorted rather a lot -- The only drawback is they, like any single coil, are noisy. Middle position is noise cancelling, though, which is nice (flip it over to middle when you want it to shut up between playing). These is really a great guitar. It looks amazing and unique, it's classy, it's light, it feels like it was made for my hands... At this price it's really a steal. I know you hear a lot of people review various middle-priced guitars and say they hang with gibsons, but this *really does*. I'm not just saying it because I'm on the honeymoon, because I'm passed the honeymoon. It hangs with top dollar axes. Just read the various other patriot reviews. There's a reason everyone agrees. They're AWESOME. Michael Kelly is awesome. If you want p90s, this is your guitar. Don't be scared, just get it.One final note on the wrap around bridge -- I had concerns prior to buying it that intonation would be a problem since there is not an individual adjustment for each string. The whole bridge can be rotated either direction via screws on the sides. Considering the intonation was virutally perfect out of the box, this adjustment is sufficient. I wouldn't worry about intonation problems, you can get it virtually perfect, and in my case, it was virtually perfect out of the box. The wrap around bridge is nice because you'll never snap a string on it, and I imagine it probably aids in better sustain. Negative is that

Comments about Michael Kelly Patriot Special Electric Guitar:

This is a guitar that is impossible to keep on a rack, because you will be unable to pass it by without picking it up and playing for a while. If you've other stuff to do, put it in the sweet hardshell MK case and stick it under the bed.
I am, like Hopkins, impressed with "the achieve of, the mastery of the thing.".

Great Guitar

Comments about Michael Kelly Patriot Special Electric Guitar:

I have had my Michael Kelly for some time now. Since I have owned it I have played several guitars, Gibsons, Paul Reed Smith, Fender you name it I have played it owned it or still own it. The Michael Kelly sits in the guitar holder getting played, the others in the case getting played once in a blue moon. Long story short, the Michael Kelly is as good if not better guitar in every way as the others and better then most. If you looking for a guitar that you don't have to take a loan out to buy this is it.
