I originally purchased this as a "Condition 4" for cheap with a hole punched in the back down by the endpin. Even with that hole, it played and sounded beautifully.

I fixed the hole and settled upon Martin M-530 Phosphor Bronze Extra Lights. I played it like that for a couple years.

I recently had it professionally set up, the frets leveled (they were pretty worn) and had a Tusq nut and saddle. I also moved up to the slightly heavier M-540 PB Lights for strings.

These changes have transformed this instrument. It had a strong voice before, but whoa, the Tusq nut and saddle along with the slightly heavier strings have given it a far richer, more powerful voice than ever before.

I play live performances with this guitar using both an AKG Perception 170 mic on the guitar and a K&K Pure Mini piezo pickup with a preamp. It sounds great.

I have zero desire to replace it "in-kind" with another, more expensive dreadnought acoustic. I'm thinking about getting a Recording King ROS-06 simply to try out a 000 style guitar and the wider neck, but not to replace this Mitchell.

I still feel like I won the lottery every time I play this guitar.

I would not recommend this guitar. Based on the reviews, I thought this guitar would be great. However, as soon as I opened the box I could tell otherwise. I first noticed a very strong glue smell which was really overpowering. I noticed the very thin wood which looked really cheap. The fret ends need to be filed, they are not at all smooth. The guitar has a somewhat good tone which is the only reason it got anything other than a 1 star rating. I would recommend at least playing one of these before you buy it.
Nothing fancy.
Poor.
Not great when you consider the quality.

Comments about Mitchell MD100S Dreadnought Acoustic Guitar:

All I can say, for the price paid, I am absolutely blown away by this guitar. I ordered the natural finish. The first thing you notice is this really is a beautiful looking guitar. Classy, not too flashy. Nobody would guess its low price.

Its physical beauty matches its tone. The solid spruce top and mahogany body sound stunning. Just so rich, warm and musical. It'll give you plenty of volume too. Whether you're fingerpicking or strumming. It has its own sound.

This guitar plays lovely right out of the box. The acdtion is nice and low without any buzz. I haven't noticed any intonation problems.
The tuners seem to keep it in tune for a long time. And kudos to MF for shipping it safely and quickly.

The bottom line is this is the best darn value for an acoustic dreadnought (with a solid top!) I've ever seen. I've paid over twice the amount for acoustics that don't hold a candle to this one. You can't go wrong with this guitar.

I owm 2 Mitchell guitars and I won't leave home without them. Been playing for about 40 years and will not play in plubic and sound bad. Bottom line these guitars sound good and if some druink falls or steps on one you just buy another put some ej16s on it and it will sound as good as anything at the party. Why would you take a Gison or a Martin or any other high end guitar out in the elements and maybe have something happen to it when they make such a great sounding guitar that you can pass out at the fire and let everybody play, yes even your buddy that gets drunk and falls over everything. Just let him play and sing along and don't worry. Mitchell guitars don't leave home without one.

        What a great guitar!

Comments about Mitchell MD100S Dreadnought Acoustic Guitar:

I have been playing this guitar for over a year, and in any moment has never disappointed me. I know a lot of people who play expensive guitars and some of them have played my Mitchell md100s and they have thought of my guitar as an expensive guitar. When it comes to tell them the actual price they don't believe me and that's because this guitar sounds amazing, it stays in tune for a LONG period of time. Mine came with D'Addario strings so in my opinion they don't need to be replaced. I play this guitar almost every day and when I hear that amazing reach sound I just don't want to stop playing it. I don't know if you are trying to buy this guitar as a beginner, intermediate player, but really it will beat some of the high priced guitars. I came to read the reviews of this guitar before buying mine and I couldn't believe all the good things they were saying about this guitar until I bought mine, so if you can go and try one at any shop and you will find this guitar really awesome. I bought mine without even trying one and guess what... I chose the best guitar for a very good price.Nice
        Great
It could be more expensive with such quality.

        Nice for the price
Sure it's not a martin or taylor but for the price it's a great starter guitar. It plays nice and sounds great. The strings that come with it are a little hard on the fingers. So I just ordered a set of xl martin strings. That should do the trick.
Only complaint is that the Fret ends stick out a little. Mitchell should have filed them down.

Comments about Mitchell MD100S Dreadnought Acoustic Guitar:

No point in wasting words here, I bought this as a starter guitar for my 15 year old daughter for Christmas ( mainly because of the price and reviews). It came in yesterday so I took it out of the box to inspect it. I had to adjust the truss rod a little to get rid of the "buzzing" but then it was all smooth from there. I ended up playing it for about 45 minutes...this thing is remarkable, it really does play like a much higher priced " big name" guitar and the sound was fantastic. I will be ordering another for myself in January.

I ordered it yesterday, it arrived today (standard ground). The fretwork is good. Easy on the fingers.
Loud as a freight train when strummed hard. Long sustain. Intonation good.It has "Nubone XB" nut & saddle (made by graph-tech). It feels lightweight, which is OK with me. I'm using the strings that came with it. I am only a beginner and this is my opinion.

Comments about Mitchell MD100S Dreadnought Acoustic Guitar:

Great guitar, straight out of the box. well setup and ok neck. It sounds normal, like a 200 dollar guitar should. Really not the best guitar in the world, but for beginners it is a steal! The looks really add to it, beautiful body, and the necks style is nice. The neck feels alright, but it definately isn't a fast neck. the only reason I say this is because I play much more expensive guitar. My number one complaint is the neck mount. It sticks out making it impossible to play past the 12th fret. Cool that it has 22 frets, but when you can only reach 12 what is the point. But if that doesn't bother you than i definately recommend this guitar. Decent sound for the price!

Comments about Mitchell MD100S Dreadnought Acoustic Guitar:

I've been playing for years. My parents got me this for Christmas a few years ago. Since then, i've had the chance to change it, but i have always refused. I've played on taylor guitars that did not sound or feel as nice as this. I did sand down the neck to remove the polish, which is how i enjoy it.

I have not found a single other acoustic in this price range that can compare (new, that is). I would highly recommend this for beginners, or anybody needing an acoustic to have around.

            Also, it is extremely light.

Comments about Mitchell MD100S Dreadnought Acoustic Guitar:

I am a journeyman level player (maybe a little better) and first off, I recommend this guitar. You can't find a solid top, mahogany back and sides ( non-laminate) guitar at this price point anywhere. It will age nicely and will give any level player years of enjoyment. I have a Martin and I LOVE that guitar! With that said, the Mitchell md100s is my everyday beater. I get a ton of enjoyment out of it and, when set up correctly, it really does play like a more expensive guitar. Flaws: Frets are not filed down, needs adjustment out of the box, overall construction is what keeps the price down. Very good guitar for the price, however. Check it out! While you're at it, look at the 200s and the 300s.

Back in the early 70's when Yamaha was the biggest buzz in acoustic guitars for the average guy,I had a Red Label FG-220.I sold it several years ago and have regretted it ever since!I had one hell of a time tuning this thing. Especially the "A" string but once I got it tuned I ran through 2 songs and it stayed in tune but I'm going to change strings anyway. That being said when I picked this Mitchell up it was like that old FG-220 all over again. It was like it never left me. Short of a $2500 guitar I will put this Mitchell up against any of them. I'm getting my Grand Son the Jr.Model and I suggest if you're on the edge you take the jump before the qaulity goes down or the price goes up as most always happens!!

I'm a complete amateur who was looking for my first acoustic. I bought this at Guitar Center, after reading the reviews here. It was well worth it! Nice big tone, quality construction and CHEAP. I also had trouble removing the sticker, then discovered the pickguard has a protective clear plastic coating. Just peel the plastic off, and voila! No more sticker; just a handsome, quality guitar at a GREAT value! Stays in tune nicely, and sounds great. For the price, you will not be disappointed.

Comments about Mitchell MD100S Dreadnought Acoustic Guitar:

I've been wanting an acoustic for some time. I went to a guitar center and tried everything they had including guitars over my price range. I looked at the Mitchell MD 100S in the rack. I plucked a string and was surprised at the tone. So I said might as well give it a try. I was shocked! Hands down this was the best guitar I played. I put it back in the rack. I sampled everyone I could reach and after an hour said, "This is my guitar."I didn't buy it because of the price, it was the sound. This Mitchell is light and singing with pleasant overtones, good intonation, compensated saddle- It was what I was looking for. It was louder and offered a more musical sound than ANY guitar I played. I've played guitar for over 35 years. I've had Guilds, Epiphone, Fender, Gibson-this is a nice guitar. I would recommend it to any one, for any purpose/style of acoustic music. You can not go wrong with this guitar. It's basic. It's simple. It's sweet.

I have played guitar for about 4 years now. I was looking for a low end acoustic, but was till playing the expensive end for fun. Then I picked this guitar up for its looks, and started playing, and I thought wow this must be real expensive. So I looked at the price and was amazed. I bought it right then and there. Comments about Mitchell MD100S Dreadnought Acoustic Guitar:

So I bought the Mitchell MD100S as my first acoustic guitar. I have been just as surprised as everyone else here. When I pulled it out of the box I immediately changed strings to Martin lights and let me tell you this thing kills. Until I hit my first D. It had a wicked buzz on the second fret of the high E string. After a truss rod adjustment it is smoking. It took care of all the fret buzz and the Martin strings really sound great. The craftsmanship on this guitar is really nioce and the paint is near perfect. I can't say enough about this wonderful guitar. I played for 4 hours straight the other night and it never went out of tune. I play it for 2-3 hours every day and only ever have to do minor tune tweaks. The tuners are solid! I am seriously planning on buying one or two more for alternate tunings and such.

Comments about Mitchell MD100S Dreadnought Acoustic Guitar:

For more years then I care to count I suffered from a horrible disese called L-A-Z-Y...Perhaps you've heard of it?I'm also a songwriter who finally came to the realization that it was time to step up. And I chose the Mitchell MD100S.From a beginers point of view this guitar is an outstanding value. Right out of the box I was struck by it's excellent finish and from the moment I started playing chords and learning strumming techniques I found it was a comfortable insturment that had a nice tone to it. (Sure a Gibson,Taylor or Martin will deliver richer tone but that is for later when your level of play justifies the expense.) I recommend getting your guitar set up properly and using lighter strings to save your fingers. Other then that you won't go wrong choosing this guitar as your first.
