Superb boutique quality guitar at a GREAT price!

Comments about Music Man Albert Lee HH Electric Guitar with Tremolo Bridge:

I received my black with vintage white pearloid pickguard Albert Lee HH with tremolo quickly and in sturdy packaging. This is the second Albert Lee model I 've purchased (the first one, an MM90 with piezo pups, made me an Ernie Ball Music Man guitars fan). Like my first Albert Lee, my new black Albert Lee HH arrived perfectly set up from the factory - great string height, intonation and was even in tune.
After spending the weekend getting to know this instrument, I can tell you that it is a wonderful guitar and one of the best I have ever purchased in terms of construction and quality. You should know that I have been a collector of quality guitars for many years. This guitar is equal to the finest Gibsons, Fenders, PRS's, etc in my collection, but significantly, at a price much lower than the majority of them. You get alot of verstatility and quality with this guitar at a very reasonable price. I've mentioned elsewhere in this review the various features, so I won't rehash here other than to say the neck feels like velvet, is slim and comfortable in the my hands. The 10" radius really is perfect for lead and rythym players and won't choke out in the higher registers.
Now, a few impressions about the sounds you can get from this guitar. I'll say up front that I absolutely love the bridge pickup and how both humbuckers sound together in the middle position. I've never had a guitar where I really liked how two humbers sound together, but this one sounds great. The bridge pickup can cut through with great definition with just the right touch of bass. Together, you get the same defintion, but with a little more fullness and bottom end. Most other guitars get muddy in the middle positon with both humbuckers and lose definition. Not the Albert Lee HH. I found that I liked the neck pickup best through the clean channel of my amp and at lower drive levels. It has a lot of middle and low end response and though it still maintains definition on the higher strings, I found that the neck pickup breaks up too easily when driven for my liking. The split coil settings are more in the direction of a good single coil sound, though they don't exactly get precise tele or strat tones. I would say more like what those guitars sound like in a middle position setting. Not surprising since there are two single coils working together from each pickup, either inners or outer coils depending on the setting on the 5 way selector switch. Not unpleasing, but won't fully replace the quack or jingle you'd expect from a strat or tele, but pretty close.
In all, I would say this is the perfect guitar if you want one quality guitar that has the versatility to play hard rock, rock, blues and jazz. I would put my bucks on this guitar all over again. They say that folks either love or hate the angular looks of the Albert Lee. I love it and the design grows on me more and more whenever I play it. Not just because it's light and fairly compact, but because the Albert Lee's design is unique (without looking bizarre or out of balance) from all the other guitars that have been out there in the market for years.
Hard to beat the features built into the Albert Lee HH with tremolo. Starting with a mahogany body, an unfinished oil and wax rosewood neck, locking tuners, Dimarzio pups and brass block in the tremolo, the resulting components and materials develop a "tone chain" with excellent sustain and unsurpassed note definition. There's lots of sonic flexibility with the split coil electronics arrangement that provide tele-like to full higher output humbucker tones. The Music Man two point tremolo system with quick locking tremolo arm and bent steel saddles is smooth and precise. The five bolt neck joint feels super solid and no doubt contributes to the guitars superb resonance (even when unplugged). It is light at just under 7 lbs and super well-balanced when you strap it on, making it easy to play for long stretches.
Like all Ernie Ball Music Man guitars (this one is my second), the guitar I received is solid, no flaws, beautiful finish, and well-packed in the included hardshell case. All of the materials are of the highest quality and function as expected.
You would be very hard-pressed to find a guitar of this quality and versatiity at this price point.

Awesome Axe

Comments about Music Man Albert Lee HH Electric Guitar with Tremolo Bridge:

Hi(excuse me for my poor english), I have pursached this guitar about 4 month ago in canada, and it's been 4 month that I always am amaze and blown away by it. First, the action is perfect (because the neck is straight) The tremolo always come back to pitch( I'm a big jeff beck fan and even though this guitar as no rolling nut, it's almost perfect 'cause of those locking tuner peg). Then I've open it up and find the electronic super neat. The guitar itself is kind of small an light but doesn't look tiny. On the other side the sound Is big and beeffy, even the brige pickup is not so treblely. As on all guitar that have spitable coils, the sound get glassy but also loose some gain. Finally I must say this the guitar you need for the road because it's rock solid.

Quirky? Yes. And Phenomenal!

Comments about Music Man Albert Lee HH Electric Guitar with Tremolo Bridge:

If haven't actually touched the Albert Lee model guitar, you might think it's a little funny-looking. It is a little unusual, but it's got a cool retro "Jetsons" vibe that really grows on you. And when you play it, you'll be amazed. That was exactly the reaction I had, in that order. I thought it was strange, then I played it and had to have it. Mainly because the neck is INCREDIBLE. It's solid rosewood, and it's unfinished. It feels something like velvet, which is to say that it's unlike any other guitar I've ever played. The profile is perfect. It's more comfortable by a mile than any other guitar I've ever had my hands on. It makes playing effortless. The custom pickups in this guitar are fantastic, too. Bright if you want them to be, but gutsy too, with plenty of power and bite. They sound great clean, with a nice sweetness and chime about them, and distorted they can be bluesy or ballsy. The 5-way switching system is very versatile. You can get Strat-like and Tele-like tones, but this guitar has it's own sonic personality - in a good way. I much prefer the overall sound of this new double-humbucker model to the earlier single-coil version, though the P90 version is also cool. The rosewood neck on this HH model, though, beats the others by a mile. Not only does it feel great, but it's the perfect tonal complement to the mahogany body.Personally, I love the '50s retro colors this guitar comes in. Don't be put off by the shape, either. This is probably the most ergonomic guitar ever made. It's a virtually perfect design. You have to hold it to understand. If you don't know who Albert Lee is, look him up. He's a chicken-pickin' Tele virtuoso sho has played with just about every big name out there. It says a lot about the integrity of Ernie Ball that they chose to name the guitar after Albert rather than some flash-in-the pan kiddie rocker. Great job, Music Man!
