I've been playing 22 years. This is the greatest guitar I've ever touched. It actually does play like butter, smooth as silk. There is nothing else like the unfinished maple neck, I just can't get over how great this guitar plays!
On to the quality and finish. Not one single imperfection on this guitar. It is absolutely beautiful. Superb craftsmanship and top notch hardware.
Everything about this guitar blew me away, but the pickups really stand out. I've been a Duncan fan for years until I heard the Dimarzios in the Axis. These things scream and sound phenomenal while doing it. Dial back the volume knob on the guitar and they clean up nice and sweet.
Absolutely the perfect guitar for me. Even the case is top notch and comes with goodies. If I had one complaint, it would be the price. But to me it's worth it considering I've played probably a hundred guitars over the years and none compare to this. Seems like you have to spend $1k to even get anything decent anymore. I'm 100% happy with this guitar, which is a first in my life.

I always wanted to get one of these since I am a huge EVH fan. The guitar looks great and for the price, I expected an exceptional instrument. Unfortunately, I didn't find this. I think the materials (woods, hardware, finish, etc.) are top notch, but the quality control is shoddy. I ended up getting two of them and returned both to MF since I wasn't happy. The first one had neck pocket cracks - which isn't the manufacturers fault - probably happened in transit. The high e-string was also too close to the edge and would fall off the end of the fretboard when doing vibrato. On the 2nd one, the floyd was not flush with the body. With normal action, the floyd base plate had to lean far back to touch the body. For the money, you shouldn't have these issues. On both, I also found the frets too low and had more buzzing than I like. I did setups (truss rod adjustment, string height, etc.) for both, but it didn't help my taste for it. Again, I really wanted to like this guitar, but just couldn't. If you are smart, I think you should save up more $ to get a premium guitar with more consistent quality / playability (e.g. Suhr, Anderson, etc.). My two cents..........

i played one of these (stop bridge version) at a local music shop, and it was on sale. everyday i kick myself for not buying it. this guitar is one of the smoothest playing guitars i've ever played. the neck is smooth and comfortable, the stock pickups are great. my only beef is the toggle switch is too far away from my hands making it hard for me to switch pickups efficiently, but other than that, a great guitar!!!

        Awesome craftmanship !

Comments about Music Man Axis Electric Guitar:

Finally, here are the PROS and CONS for me...

        PROS :
        - Quality/Price ratio
        - Awesome Finish
        - Fretting
        - Neck wood and finish (very beautiful and one of the most confortable neck I ever played)
        - Simplicity (3 position toggle switch, vol. knob)
        - Playability
        - Versatility (Rock, Classic Rock, Blues, Instrumental Rock)
        - Pickups (medium output DiMarzios) great sound and stays clean/defined even with distortion !

        CONS :
        - A bit pricey (even though it has a good price/quality ratio)
        - A bit Heavy
        - Would like a thinner neck
        - Would like a compound radius fingerboard (12" to 16") or at least a 12" or 14" fingerboard radius instead of a 10" radius

In sum, this guitar, even though I like my Jackson's neck better, is my new "main axe" because of it's comfortability (a KingV is not that comfortable to play !), it's versatility and its playability.
As I'm a "straight in your face" guitarist I don't really need the tone knob, so for me it's not an issue at all. I also really like the humbucker configuration : Neck, Neck+Bridge (still humbuckers, not splitted) and Bridge. I really like the Neck+Bridge for clean work it's awesome ! In short, this guitar's features are perfect for my playing style.

The only thing I could wish to make this gtr my perfect axe... is a thinner neck. A neck similar to my Jackson's (thin w/compound radius 12" to 16") would be perfect. I'm not really a fan of 10" radius and beafier necks... because I don't have really big hands (a la Paul Gilbert) ! This neck is still awesome in the higher register, but when I want to play a Gadd9 (6th string at 3rd fret) or lower, for exemple, it becomes really uncomfortable and I can't endure this kind of chords for long... while I can with my Jackson, wich has the perfect neck and fingerboard radius ! I'm giving this comparison so you can figure out the differences between the MusicMan's Axis neck and thinner necks (Jackson, Ibanez).

        For that I'm giving a 9/10.
What strikes me about this guitar is the craftmanship and the precision of all the details... I also own a Jackson King-V USA (bought in 2000) and a Fender Fat-strat USA (heavily modified) (bought in 2002), and both of these gtrs have some "mistakes" regarding the fretting (ex.: Jackson frets were not cut and/or buffered in the edges and have one of its fret (not the metal bit but where you put your fingers) damaged in some sort ; my Fender has some "cracks" on the sides of the neck around some of the frets, etc.). But the MusicMan Axis I own... everything was perfect right off the box, the finish (honeyburst on flamed maple top), the fretting, the wiring, the neck/fingerboard finish (awesome bird's eye maple), etc. etc. For that, I'm giving a 10/10 !
I know that MusicMan guitars are expensive, but I think it worth the extra money... and the Axis is not more expensive than the high end Jackson, Ibanez and ESP... so it's a deal anyway ! You wanna have a great "Rock Axe"... look no further ! Because the Axis is, for me, one of the best rock guitar on the market ! And for this price and the quality of the guitar it has a really good "price/quality ratio" !

I recently bought a translucent blue one of these at a local guitar store. It plays amazingly. You will have to set it up, I figured that is sort of a given, but some people aren't so smart.. It plays looks and feels awesome. Very much worth the money.

Comments about Music Man Axis Electric Guitar:

I felt compelled to post on here after playing an Axis at my local music shop. Personally, it wasn't very comfortable for me, but that's just a personal thing. This is a very well made guitar, flawless down to the most minor detail. It also sounded great. Although I wouldn't buy it, if it feels good in your hands, buy it, it sounds and looks that amazing!

The same guitar without the EVH name

        By Gryphon

        from WI

Comments about Music Man Axis Electric Guitar:

I always wanted the EVH version of this guitar but couldn't afford it back in the early 90's. This guitar is the same thing without the EVH name on it. It plays great, it looks different yet cool. The neck is unfinished and feels great. I don't rate setup because that's something I always do myself and you should learn to do it too. Most guys set their action WAY too low and then they get buzzing. That ain't the guitar's fault.

        By R4XGuitars

Comments about Music Man Axis Electric Guitar:

I have played a lot of guitars especially EVH models and this rivals anything I've played. The action on this guitar is suburb it plays fast if your interested in smooth fast "shredding" this guitar is a must own. And the bolt on neck like some lower end guitars has no effect on the sustain. It also features a single volume knob just like a real EVH guitar and it has a two pick-up toggle switch to control the two custom pick-ups they have a blistering high end and a corroding low end this guitar is a steal. If your interested in taking your playing too a new level this guitar is the guitar to do it.
