I checked out this guitar over two years ago but wasn't sure if I wanted to buy it. As you can see it is quite pricey. I waited. Time and time again I found myself looking back at this thing still intrigued. After two years I finally said 'I'm ready" so I ordered one this past December through MF. It was on back-order and I waited about a month. When it arrived and I played it for about two days straight I made the following review. The playability is superb. You will be amazed at how good the neck feels while playing. The controls may seem extensive, but they are extremely useful for any guitarist who likes to tweak his tone options and plays a variety of sounds. For example, The three way pickup switch sounds either Heavy(bridge), Jazzy(middle), Or clean and warm(neck). You have two output options and one of them allows you to use the piezo bridge pickup. This pickup can also be combined with the humbuckers and you can then switch from blazing rock, metal, etc to warm acoustic with the flip of a finger. It can sound any way the player wants it to. If you know how to make your axe talk, this guitar will be your new wife! You wont ever have to fight it! The tremolo system made me cautious at first because I love to tweak the whammy a lot while playing. This system has no locking nuts. However It WILL stay in tune unless you brutally jerk the bar. The best thing I noticed was that the neck feels so easy past the 12th fret. I mean I have no problem ripping through scales near the 24th fret with absolute comfort. The mystic dream finish is really cool. If you are a serious guitarist, and a fan of Petrucci, progressive, metal, etc. I would at least take a look at the JP 6 w piezo. You will most likely want it. If you can afford it, buy one!

If you are like me and always wanted this guitar but didn't want to spend the money, I would definitely save up and do it, I never imagined a guitar alone could take my playing to the next level. This one did. And with the locking tuners you can dive with ease and be rest assured your guitar will stay in tune. I am now saving for the 7 String version. If you want the perfect guitar, this is your best choice. If you don't want to eat the price tag, I also have the Sterling by Music Man JP50 model. It is very close in playability.
The JP6 is absolutely the fastest guitar I have ever played. The tonal quality is unmatched. I was amazed that when switching to the Piezo system that I was playing an electric guitar. The acoustic sound is very close to the real thing. Takes a while to get used to the different sounds you can get from the two switches, but after a while I found myself switching with ease. The Mystic Dream finish is beautiful. The locking tuners will keep it in tune as you dive and flutter with ease. The hard case that it comes in is also high quality.
Very solid guitar, Music Man spared no expense in building these.
The price tag is the only downfall to this guitar. I believe that it is worth every penny, but to spend that much money on one piece of your arsonal may get you looks from your spouse.....Beware.

Comments about Music Man John Petrucci 6 Electric Guitar w/ Piezo Bridge:
This guitar is great! I have many different guitars, Gibson SG's, Fernandes, Fender, Ibanez, and this thing I think has topped them all, it even plays better than my Ibanez RG-450, which is very hard to beat believe it or not.
Comments about Music Man John Petrucci 6 Electric Guitar w/ Piezo Bridge:
amazing!
I been playing guitar for 10 years now. I have a fender strat american, les paul traditional plus, ibanez rg and a taylor. And now this guitar. I was looking for a different guitar with a different but nice sound and this one is it. By far it kills any other guitar i have in construction. Th e guita is very well though, and everything has a reason, i love the body shape, amazing feeling neck, the switches adn the bridge is just plain amazing, always in tune and the guitar itself is a beaty. It feels and looks like such a custoem guitar, and it is. A lot of people say this is only a metal guitar, not true. Ofcourse i love proggresive rock and its amazing at it, but i play at a church and we play very U2 style kind of music, hillsong, delirious, switchfoot kind of thing and the guitar can do them all and sounds amazing at it. with the right gear ofcourse, dont try to do U2 with a dual rectifier or mark V, it wont work, but put this baby trough an ac30...tone heaven. Also the pick ups are all very different but nice sounding. Neck its fat and nice humbucker sound, middle sounds like a fat warm strat, love it and the bridge is killer. Dont be scared to buy this guitar thinking all it does is metal becasue it can do it all and very well....Love this guitar!!!!! get it! oH and the piezo is amazing amazing even trhough an electric guitar amp and trhough an acoustic its very nice....get it!!!!

Comments about Music Man John Petrucci 6 Electric Guitar w/ Piezo Bridge:
First off let me begin with this. Buy this guitar. It is the best guitar I have ever owned in my 30+ years as a guitar player. My dream guitar has always been a cross between a Gibson Les Paul, PRS, a Parker Fly, A Charvel, and a Fender Strat. This guitar is that, Pure and Definitive Tone. If your the kind of guitar player that plugs in and just solos and tone isn't that much of an issue, this will be way too much guitar for you. This guitar sounds great clean or dirty and really completes my sound. Thank God someone got the tremolo system right! It does what every you want when you want and how you want it without a hitch. If your the Metallica type player, there are other options for that kind of sound. But if you want great harmonics and fantastic tone and think your ready to handle a guitar of this caliber, then this is a must buy. Bottomline is this, I have owned many guitars over my life that really cant offer me the tone and sound I hear in my head, but I think this guitar with a bit more time adjusting will be the perfect guitar for soul shredders and heavy thrashers. Period.
Comments about Music Man John Petrucci 6 Electric Guitar w/ Piezo Bridge:
I went to the guitar store with a budget of ~ $1k in mind, but I should have known better. I spent a little over 3 hours playing just about every mid-priced guitar on the wall and nothing was talking to me. Finally, I was ready to leave without a purchase and I figured why not at least try the JP6 for fun. From the moment I laid my hands on the guitar it just felt like it was meant to be. The quality of this instrument, the sounds you can get with the pickup configurations, and the feel of the neck made it impossible to just walk away. I played it for about 10 minutes and I just knew it had to come home with me.The only negative I can say about this truly sweet guitar is the cost. However, given the quality of the instrument, it's components, and the awesome paint job (Mystic Dream), I can't say it's not worth it. If you have the cash, I definitely recommend you check it out.
Comments about Music Man John Petrucci 6 Electric Guitar w/ Piezo Bridge:
After making a research of this JP6 with piezo pickup, I decided to buy one. This guitar is for a dreamer like me, play ability smooth and thin neck very comfortable to play. Action is low and pickups are sound good, for clean sound, neck pickup is sound thick and smooth, middle pickup sounds almost like strat, and bridge sounds bright like other guitar (not recoment for clean sound). When I blend with piezo, wow/ this a plus and it takes me to another level, this piezo bridge also has its own valume control which is nice.I play distortion through my B-52 tube amp, bridge pickup sound so tight, warm at the neck, not bad at middle. this guitar let me access to 24 fret very easy than other guitars I have ever played, the only a few things that I don't like are in some of the the upper fret has a little buzz, the control knobs look like kiss Hershey's chocolate, bridge pickup should be a little hotter. In conclusion ,this guitar is one of top of the line, good playing, sound good, whamy-bar stay in tune.I love this guitar and recommend you check on this one before buy anything else, you'll never disappointed.Just let you know this guitar equiped with 10-46 string (Slinky Titanium)
Comments about Music Man John Petrucci 6 Electric Guitar w/ Piezo Bridge:
I tried at least a dozen different guitars (SGs, Les Pauls, PRSs, Explorers, etc.) before choosing the Petrucci. The first thing that struck me was how easy it was to play fast. The string height is lower than most guitars, and the neck is smooth and thin. The second thing that struck me was how well it stayed in tune under abuse. I was totally sold when I figured out that I could get really sharp biting tones through the bridge pickups and still get a silky lead tone from the neck pickups. After playing it for six months, the only problem I have with the Petrucci is the location of the piezo/electric switch. Sometimes, I'll get really aggressive with my strumming and whack the switch on the up-strum, creating an obnoxious piezo + fuzz sound (or worse, no sound at all -- if plugged into the electric only input channel).
Comments about Music Man John Petrucci 6 Electric Guitar w/ Piezo Bridge:
After trying my hardest to like a Parker Mojo Fly, I finally had had enough of it and it's failing parts so I traded it for an 09 EBMM JP6 with the mystic paint. It plays just as good as the Parker, the pezios sound better, you can put any pickups you want in the JP6 without having to hack them up to get them to fit like the parker and the JP6 has a bigger and more full tone as well. This one is a keeper.I didn't give it 5 stars because a push/pull coil tap should be made standard on an instrument this expensive. It's an easy fix but no one the owner should have to make. Also, the ones come with the liquifire/Crunchlab pickups which are ok at best. Bareknuckles are on my short list.

Comments about Music Man John Petrucci 6 Electric Guitar w/ Piezo Bridge:
I've been playing for almost thirty years... everything from country to metal. I currently own nine electric guitars including Fender, Gibson, Ibanez, Steinberger, and an Ed Roman EB1. Although each of my guitars has it's own distinct personality (and I love them all), after playing the Petrucci for almost a year... I have ZERO desire to even pick up my other guitars. They are all tucked away in cases while the Petrucci is being worked to death. It may not be the guitar for everyone, but it has proven to be the guitar I have dreamed of for years.Although the neck has a very different feel (kinda the same way a 2010 Corvette has a different feel than a vintage vet), once you grow accustomed to the high performance design it takes you places you've never been before. The gun oil finish on the neck is amazing. It feels extremely organic and it's NOT plasticy like so many guitar necks. The fit and finish are perfect. The array of tones I get with the piezo nd humbucker pickups is amazing. The tremelo stays in tune even when extremely abused. Amazing... considering there is no locking nut. If you (like me) have played old school style guitars all your life, you will need to give yourself a few hours to adjust to the feel of this beast. But after that... there will be no going back. Two thumbs of to Music Man for their work on this one.
