The John Petrucci Ball Family Reserve 7 Electric Guitar was designed in conjunction with the world-renowned Dream Theater guitarist. Signature model features fine tonewoods including maple and rosewood. A mahogany tone block runs from under the bridge to the neck pocket. Selected maple neck. A high gloss polyester finish looks great and offers superb protection. Equipped with 2 custom DiMarzio humbuckers specially designed for Petrucci (DiMarzio LiquiFire neck and DiMarzio Crunch Lab bridge) along with redesigned controls providing additional versatility and tonal options, the signature John Petrucci 7 sets the standard for the next generation of electric guitar innovation.
The Ball family is the last of a dying breed, a family business making guitars and basses exclusively in the United States. Ball Family Reserve is a celebration of their heritage in instrument craftsmanship which features some of the finest figured tone woods and finishes available. These rare heritage pieces are offered in limited runs and make available to the public instruments that were previously reserved for the Ball family and their loyal artists.

The review below is completely right in saying that this is the best 7-string guitar ever. Months back I decided to shop for one and this one caught my eye from the start. However, the price tag made me look at others. After shopping around and trying a few, I couldn't get this guitar out of my mind and went for it anyway.Let me tell you, the pricetag is definitely high, but the guitar is for sure the best sounding and easiest guitar to play that I've ever owned. The new Petrucci pickups have an extra kick and massive tone that no other guitar has and the neck allows for superfast playing all over the neck.The whammy and tuning system never goes out of tune and the guitar generally looks awesome and catches the eye of many, not only for it's looks but also for the sheer fact that it has 7 strings. When any of my guitar player friends come over this is the first one they grab and are always raving over how fantastic it is.I know whenever somebody gets a guitar they say that it's the last guitar they'll ever get, but I at least truly believe that I'll never buy a guitar that is any better than this.

The Music Man BFR JP7 is by far the BEST 7 string guitar out there and here's why:1. Consistent construction and setup. I own 2 of them and they both came almost perfect.2. Mahogany Tone Block. The pickups are direct mounted to a block of mahogany in the body. Talk about sustain and TONE!3. Push/Pull control for the middle pickup setting. The tone knob has a push/pull which will switch the guitar from the normal 2 center coils in parallel to a typical 2 humbuckers at the same time. It's nice to have the extra tone option.4. Piezo bridge. The piezo in the JP guitars is the BEST piezo I've heard in any electric guitar. Mine sound just like an acoustic when I use a DI box.4. Floating bridge that doesn't lock. It's like a floyd, but not. No locks. Super easy to set up.All in all, this is one of the best guitars on the market. You get WAY better playability than any Fender or Gibson, plus extra options.
