I bought this guitar because I am a fanatic about keeping my guitars cleaned and polished after each playing session. I wanted a guitar that I could just pick up and practice on anytime, anywhere without having to worry about it getting dirty, nicked, etc. The Tin Top fit that need exactly. I was impressed when I received it, but right out of the box it needed some neck and intonation adjustments. Once that was done, it really came to life. It is a pleasure to play, and with pickup and tone control, you can pretty much cover any desired spectrum. The higher frets are a little difficult to reach, but that just helps make you a better player in my mind. Also, this guitar is very heavy, and I only use it for practice. Bottom line is, if you need a good solid practice guitar, buy this while you can, you won't regret it!

I would STRONGLY caution any would-be buyers to think again. I ordered this guitar from Musician's Friend for Christmas. When I recieved it, the gauge on it did not light up. I replaced the battery, but still nothing. I returned it. I got a second one. Same problem. Customer service assured me that it would not happen again. Unfortunately, when I recieved my third guitar of this type, the gauge still didn't work and the bridge pickup did not work, either. I have had enough, it has been well over a monthlong process to finally decide that a refund would serve me better than an exchange. I am disappointed because this guitar, though faulty, SOUNDS good. It PLAYS well. But it is PLAGUED by defects. Obviously there are some quality control issues at play here. If you want to go through all of this, then by all means go ahead. Maybe you will get lucky.

Big bang and looks for your buck

By SebKomor

I bought it in Berlin as it's looks had me drop dead on the street. Love how it looks, feels AND sounds. I'm no guitar expert but this thing is far from crappy or horrible. I've had no issues or troubles with it. It sounds big. As well as the option between active and passive pickup's. I say if you want a killer looking guitar with more than decent sound, go get it. If you need that 2000 dollar Gibson sound..well, go get that, but I double dare anyone to hear the difference between this and a 2000 gibson when churning out Ministry like riffs and the like.

this is a great guitar with a great feeling neck!in addition to the light going on when you pull out the tone knob, it kicks in a coil tap that gives you a thinner, single-coil-type sound.when it arrived, the action was set way too high, but with some adjustments it is now sleek and easy to play with a great, resonant sound. the solid basswood body gives it great sustain and controlled feedback but it's not as heavy as one might expect.

It gave me more than I expected

By Dr. Frankenshteen

The info on this web site doesn't mention it, and OLP didn't include instructions with mine, but to make the meter light, you pull up on the tone knob.I got this guitar as a goof because of its bad looks, and figured I'd just hang it on the wall. But as soon as I picked it up, I found the neck to be exactly what I've been searching for. It's a thin, fast, satin neck that's perfect for my hands. The guitar is nicely balanced and the sound is decent.I'm not into modifying, but if I were, it'd be pretty easy to turn this into a killer. Great show guitar. It?s a lot of fun to play and to be seen with. And, man, I love that light-up meter!

OLP Tin Top Review

By Master

I played this guitar before I bought it and I thought it was awesome. It plays really well, but the higher frets are difficult to reach. Once I had this guitar for a while I noticed the screw inlays had rusted. The guitar sounded great, but I had to put the EMG pickups in it and now it sounds awesome. It is still a great guitar for the price.

If that's how you roll......

This guitar is pretty ugly. When I played it at guitar center it sounded suprisingly nice like most OLP guitars and the feel was decent but the finish and looks of this are just foul. It'd look kinda metal if the gauge below the bridge were gone but still.

I got this guitar about half a year ago just as a collectible, but it sounds surprisingly good.I gave it an intonation job, put on Medium strings and use it for slide. I used it at a show for the first last week and put through a pedal board it was awesome. More people came up and asked me about the guitar...a lot of fun and a great showpiece

OLP Tin Top

I bought this guitar because I thought it looked like it would be fun to play. I was right. Straight out of the box and into the amp it sounds good. I have been playing for over 30 years and have some really high end gear, but this guitar reminds me that a solid and fun guitar doesn't have to cost thousands of dollars. The appearance is awesome, just raw,and industrial. The neck is smooth and very playable for chords and leads. It's been a long time since I bought a guitar and felt I actually got more than my money's worth. What a nice surprise.

You get what you pay for!!

WOW what a piece of crap guitar! I purchased this guitar because it looked pretty cool. I figured I could change out the pickups with some EMG's and have a pretty cool chugging machine. But wow, the quality of this guitar is terrible. The pickups came with pieces of metal sticking to them (looked like metal files from an etch a sketch) The action was so high and when i lowered it to where it felt good, it was buzzing against the bridge pickup. Do yourself a favor, ignore the price on this guitar and buy something else!! You definitely get what you pay for!!
