OVERVIEW

(Open Box) Celebrate 50 years of great guitar making with this special dreadnought.

2015 finds Alvarez Guitars celebration a half century of refined and ever-evolving craftsmanship. To mark this milestone achievement Alvarez has created the ADA1965, part of their 1965 Series, a gorgeous line of guitars that exemplify everything they’ve learned over the years in terms of sound, aesthetics, and affordability. “We want every guitarist and Alvarez enthusiast to be able to join us in this 50 year celebration,” says Chris Meikle, Head of Development at Alvarez and Senior Vice President of St. Louis Music. “Very often commemorative guitars are so expensive that they’re out of reach to the everyday player. Our goal with the 1965s was to create a line with beautiful appointments and tone, but make them as accessible as possible.” The ADA1965 Dreadnought is made with premium North American, solid A+ Sitka spruce top, a beautiful Acacia back and sides, and handcrafted Paua abalone purfling. Other appointments include mother-of-pearl and abalone inlays, premium die-cast tuners, and a bi-level rosewood bridge.

Comments about Alvarez 50th Anniversary ADA1965 Dreadnought Acoustic Guitar:

Excellent all acoustic guitar in the low to mid price range. Highly recommended in the 6/15 and 12/15 Premier Guitar magazines. Great tone and playability, but no booming bass. I initially purchased this model guitar through another source and had to send it back due to cracks in the neck upon first tuning. When I later saw it on sale at MF, I decided to give it another chance. The guitar from MF has been fine, knock on wood. Very attractive guitar, but the back does have some variances in shading and grain patterns.

Comments about Alvarez 50th Anniversary ADA1965 Dreadnought Acoustic Guitar:

I was a little disappointed by this one. I had not seen this guitar before making the purchase...my mistake. While it was OK, it didn't have that WOW factor I thought I might get from it. I have an Ibanez AVD4 which I absolutely love and that's what I got from it upon initial unpackaging. I also own an Alvarez AD60S and really like it too, so I decided to take the plunge on this one. I'll keep what I've got, sent the ADA1965 back. If you are into Alvarez, the AD60S is a great buy for the money. If you are looking for that unique look that many people may not own along with a great sound and playability, look at the Ibanez Artwood Series.

Only checking that I would not recommend it, due to personal preference.

Comments about Alvarez 50th Anniversary ADA1965 Dreadnought Acoustic Guitar:

Fantastic guitar, especially for the price. It is not a deep-toned guitar, more than likely due to the laminated back and sides, but the sound is beautiful nonetheless. It has a sparkle to it, and it came set up perfectly. It plays like an expensive Gibson acoustic. I recommend it for recording. Most acoustics can get pretty boomy, but the tonal character of this one works really nicely.
Very easy to play. Fingerpicking sounds great, as does strumming. Highly recommended.

Comments about Alvarez 50th Anniversary ADA1965 Dreadnought Acoustic Guitar:

Guitar was open box mint and was cosmetically beautiful and structurally sound. However, it appears someone tried to adjust to obtain playable action by tightening truss rod to back bow the neck. I relieved the neck to where it was straight and found action at nut and saddle way too high to be easily playable. Had to sand down saddle and have a professional repair shop file nut slots to get it down to normal factory height. Now it has nice low/med low action. Guitar does sound great, and for the money it would be hard to beat, it's a great addition to the stable. I could have returned it with no problem but chose not to do so. I have purchased/traded quite a few guitars in the last 20 years and rarely find a new acoustic off the shelf that has perfect action for me. It's part of the game for most people to have to tweak or setup a new guitar when they first acquire it.
