OVERVIEW

(Open Box) A well-balanced dreadnought with sweet appointments and high-quality Fishman electronics.

In the early 1900s, the word dreadnought referred to a massive battleship. The Lexington SD-300 is a booming dreadnought that offers a powerful low-end so resonant that playing lush, full chords may very well become addictive. The Lexington SD-300 has a solid Sitka spruce top paired with a sapele back and sides to create the its subtle elegance, complemented by a tortoise pickguard. The slim, mahogany neck makes for wonderful playability. Though capable of great projection, the Lexington's high end is uncompromised by its rich low end, producing a consistently balanced sound and making it an excellent choice for a great variety of players.

Includes hardshell case.

Comments about D'Angelico Lexington Dreadnought Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

Additions to my review dated 9/3/2016

I bought two of these, a year apart.

I see why the price has dropped drastically between my first purchase and my second : manufacturing has been relocated from South Korea to Indonesia.

I have an example of each iteration and the product is virtually identical. There is a small nearly intangible difference as the more recent one seems a bit lighter but makes little difference.

Good value for the price, especially now.

Comments about D'Angelico Lexington Dreadnought Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

First off, this is an incredible value at the price at the time of this review. I bought a Lexington and also a Gramercy model. The Gramercy is slightly warmer sounding, whereas the Lexington is slightly cooler looking (to me) and larger. It is true that the guitar arrived in need of a set up. I wish people would just stop complaining about about modest priced acoustic guitars needing a setup on arrival. What do you expect MF to do, set up each instrument, store it in a perfect-humidity warehouse and ship it in a temperature controlled vehicle? Even doing a set-up alone would add considerably to your cost for the instrument and delay shipping. So there.
It came with a truss rod wrench, and a slight adjustment was all that was needed. No need to adjust the saddle. I am not sure what kind of strings are on it, but they sound good. The guitar is not as loud as you would think by looking at it, but it still responds nicely to hard strumming and light picking. The Fishman Ink-4 system is easy to use, and the built in tuner seems adequate. The sound is reproduced pretty faithfully, I am play through either a Roland AC60 or an AER compact 60 amp. I see this as being a fantastic stage guitar, for a gigging musician who does not want to fret over (pun intended) an expensive instrument. But all said, the main reason I bought it was for the beautiful cherry sunburst finish, which oddly, is not seen on that many decent guitars. A friend commented on the ornate headstock being a bit too flashy. I like it, but you could replace the mirror-finish truss-rod cover with black plastic if you want to tone it down a bit. This review might not be around long since they may be closing these out for good (I do not know), so if you are on the fence about getting discounted D'Angelico acoustic, I say go for it.

I bought one, liked it so well I bought a second ; one went to my daughter and another kept for myself.
The first example required setup upon receipt but the second one was spot on out of the box.
Wonderful "sale" price for the second unit irresistible ; many thanks to Musicians Friend !

Great guitar in sound looks and construction. But here MF screwed up the secscription. This is not a cutaway guitar nor is it made of sapele. It is a dread made from solid rosewood

Comments about D'Angelico Lexington Dreadnought Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

In tune out of the very nice hard shell case provided. 1st impression - one of the most beautiful guitars I have ever seen. Quality fit and finish and I mean perfect. Looking inside and inspecting with a flashlight, it's all quality. The neck feels like an old Martin. Sound - depends on the thickness of the pick you're using. I started with a heavy one and had a deep or dark tone. Switched to a 50mm and it brightened up. After a day of playing I made an, ever so slight, neck adjustment to bring the strings down(wrench provided). I couldn't believe it. Plays like a dream high or low on neck. I usually use a little lighter gauge string but I will leave these(53 low E) on. Stays in tune. Electronics are good. I play through a Roland jc120 and it is rich. Also good direct in a PA.

Comments about D'Angelico Lexington Dreadnought Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

Straight out of the case, this guitar is a real beauty.....I believe it has indeed Rosewood back and sides , not Sapele as shown on the photos. Plugged in the sound is excellent and it still sounds like an acoustic. I am considering writing an apology letter to D'Angelico for stealing this guitar from them on sale - although the natural appears to have returned to a price that better reflects its quality. Playability is excellent. The action might be a little high for me, but I believe I'm going to change the strings first to a lighter gauge first. The Aesthetics of this instrument are superb and the sound is rich but mellow - almost like mahogany. I LOVE IT!

Very good guitar with fantastic looks and fine detail, good electronics, built in tuner, strap buttons, gold appointments. This is a good stage guitar.
Outside of that it is solid wood and will only sound better with age. My Martin, and Alvarez sound better but this is a great pick for the price of solid top guitars.
Who needs a Taylor with the Lexington.

Took it out of the box and minor tune on the strings-started playing-GREAT---I will be using it the first time today at a Christmas party I'm playing for...The only thing wrong is you cannot leave the cord plugged in even if you shut off your amp--it still uses the battery and I had to replace it the next day....when not in use you have to unplug it from the guitar....other than that--great guitar and especially the price and it came with a great case.
