OVERVIEW

A unique instrument built exclusively for Musician’s Friend.

The J-45 is one of Gibson’s best-selling acoustics of all time. Nicknamed “The Workhorse” and first introduced in 1942, this popular acoustic is now the icon of its round-shoulder, dreadnought line. The J-45 is world renowned for its full, balanced expression, warm bass and excellent projection. This October limited edition J-45 Mahogany Special is no different. Gibson gave this very special and rare limited edition the full mahogany treatment, creating a very unique and exclusive instrument built exclusively for Musician’s Friend.

Handcrafted in the Bozeman, Montana facility this J-45 Mahogany Special features a solid mahogany top and mahogany back and sides. This rarely used tonewood combination offers a beautiful vintage style look and very unique warm and round sound. The vintage vibe doesn’t stop there. The J-45 Mahogany features classic Gibson script and banner headstock detail framed by relic strap open-back tuners outfitted with white button knobs. The rosewood fingerboard and matching rosewood bridge are hand inlaid with mother-of-pearl dots.

Finished with a special Vintage Sunburst color to allow the grain of the mahogany top to be exposed and detailed with a traditional tortoise tear drop shaped pickguard.

This limited edition features the added versatility of a built-in L.R. Baggs Element VTC pickup with soundhole-mounted volume and tone control.

Only 75 J-45 Mahogany Special’s will be made in this Limited Edition run. Each guitar includes a signed Certificate of Authenticity, hardshell case with plush-lined interior, and owner's manual.

Comments about Gibson Limited Edition J-45 Mahogany Top Slope Shoulder Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

First of all, for the money we pay Gibson should be set to play out of the box. I am very happy with the sound and feel of the guitar. The tuners are subpar, after only 6 months of playing the tuners have free spin between tightening and loosening while tuning, so I am replacing with Gotoh 3 on a bar closed back tuners. I have replaced the Nut and Saddle to unbleached bone and the Bridge pins to Bone with abalone inlays which I did purely for aesthetics, to me it looks nicer. I even tried rosewood bridge pins and I could hear a difference. My biggest complaint is that in my opinion the quality in the Limited Edition should have been stepped up a notch and I believe they dropped the ball. Left me wondering if I should have went with a Martin. I had inconsistent volume on the strings due to the Saddle not being in contact with the bridge but has but corrected through a few attempts at set ups. Plays and sounds fine now after even more money being spent. The money I thought I was saving at GC through a Black Friday sale went into the guitar anyway.
