OVERVIEW

Classic Gretsch looks and improved sound with new pickups and a sustainful center block.

The double-cutaway G5622T-CB Electromatic Center-Block Electric Guitar features "That Great Gretsch Sound" with the "center-block advantage." The interior solid spruce center block running the length of the guitar's 1-¾"-deep thinline-style body makes for a lively "high gain-friendly" tone and delivers greater control over the kind of feedback players want. The three new dual-coil Super HiLo'Tron pickups are voiced to produce a clean, high-end sparkle with robust low-end, low-noise performance, along with versatile pickup switching.

Other premium features include five-ply maple body construction with a bound arched top and back, bound "cat's eye" sound holes and a bound maple neck. The G5622T-CB also has a 12.5"-radius rosewood fingerboard with 21 medium jumbo frets and Neo-Classic "thumbnail" inlays, three-way neck/bridge pickup switching with two-way auxiliary switching (middle pickup on/off), single-ply black pickguard with Gretsch logo, five "G-arrow" control knobs (volume for each pickup, master tone for bridge and middle pickups, master volume), anchored Adjusto-matic bridge and flat-handle Bigsby-licensed B70 vibrato, Grover tuners and knurled strap retainer knobs. Case sold separately.

Very nice semi-hollow body electric. It's a bit unique for a Gretsch, or any other semi-hollows on the market really. I was looking for something a bit different from the standard fare (as much as I love my LP, strat, and tele). This thing is a conversation piece with all my friends - it's got a very attention-grabbing look to it without being gaudy and it's the first guitar people notice in my collection. I got the black finish and it looks really sharp with the silver hardware.

I was really impressed with the neck - the frets were perfect and the rosewood fingerboard is a beautiful dark color. Lots of nice little touches that I didn't appreciate in the pictures - pearloid Gretsch logo/inlays, binding around the sound holes, etc.

I've never had a guitar with a Bigsby before. I expected to just tuck it away and use it as ornamentation, but it's more useful than I anticipated. It stays in tune better than I expected, but then again I really only use it for subtle pitch changes. The factory setup was OK; the action was a bit high and the high three strings were intonated sharp. Nothing a quick setup and some patience can't fix. Took about a half-hour to get the action/intonation just the way I like it. This came with a higher string gauge (11-49) than I'm used to playing, but it's easier to bend notes than I expected, maybe because of the short scale of the neck.

One of the features of the guitar that caught my eye was the electronics. I won't attempt to describe all the possible combinations involved with the three pickups, but there really are endless possibilities with blending the pickups. The variety of tones available is really quite impressive. The neck and bridge pickups respond about how you'd expect tonally and produce some beautiful tones. The middle pickup is the wild card on this guitar. I've heard other people describe it as being strat-like; I would definitely agree with that. It's very different from the bridge/neck pickups.

It's actually pretty hard to go wrong with this thing as far as getting nice clean tone out of the pickups. I personally like using this through the clean channel on my Mesa 5:25. This combination produces some incredible clean, rich tone with some jangle to it. That being said, there are a lot of controls on this guitar compared to the more traditional electric models and they take a bit of tinkering to get used to (not a bad thing if you like experimenting). I believe the pickups are dual-coils; they're very quiet as far as hum. They are thicker/richer than strat-style pickups but not as creamy/thick as a LP-style humbucker; they demonstrate excellent articulation from each string.

Overall this just a great guitar. Unique, well-thought out design and feature set; solid construction/quality control; wide range of tones, almost all of them very beautiful. In my opinion the price is definitely fair given the features and quality. I don't think it's too fair to knock the rating down just because it needed a better setup out of the factory, most new guitars do in my experience. I'm really impressed overall. I waited two weeks after I received it before I took the stickers off the pickguard just to make sure I wanted to keep it, but I've taken them off because I've deemed this model to be a keeper. I'd recommend checking it out.

I purchased this as a "Condition 1 Mint Condition" return. When it arrived upon a quick inspection - it was obvious that the fretboard was coming off the neck. Both sides of the neck by the nut were cracked, paint missing, could clearly see the bottom of the fretboard and a space between it and the neck. Returning it tomorrow. Whoever listed this as mint did not inspect this guitar. I don't mind scuffs, gentle wear from normal playing - but the fretboard coming off the neck??? And of course they're now out of the Georgia Green so can't even get a replacement. Bad way to do business. My time is important too folks.

Comments about Gretsch Guitars G5622T Electromatic Center Block Semi-Hollow Electric Guitar:

Had a Fender Strat in HS when I played in a garage band. Had to sell it for college tuition - a real bummer. Viet Nam, finished college, got married and went through life. Just bought the Gretsch G5622T and I feel like I'm back in my 20's. The guitar is beautiful and almost plays itself. The neck is unbelievable. When I can let go of it for a day I'll have a set-up done. I do get a string buzz ocasionally so just going to have a once over done by a professional. Got the Vox 20X amp to go with it. This is a blast combo. This guitar is unbeatabale. Don't hesitate getting one. And if you're an old rocker, take note - my wife said I look younger and got better lookin - just saying.

Comments about Gretsch Guitars G5622T Electromatic Center Block Semi-Hollow Electric Guitar:

Because the 1st one I received had damage that was not expected I gave a negative review of the transaction. I did not intend for that review to be a negative review about this specific model and that's unfortunately the way it came across. In fairness I wish to update my review now that I have received a replacement guitar. First & foremost Musicians Friend's customer service is 2nd to none. They really came through for me when I contacted them with the problem. Thank you for caring about our long term relationship and for responding professionally & quickly. It matters & you delivered above & beyond my expectations. Thank you.

The guitar is one of my favorite Gretsch guitars and the thought & design that went into this one are just stunning. The tone is to die for, the feel and fit and playability are superb. And 1 hour easily turned into 3 hours of pure joy of playing & inspiration. THAT'S what a guitar should do - INSPIRE! And it does. The stunning appearance of this model and that killer Georgia Green just delivers the full enjoyment of buying an instrument. I will create a great deal of music in the years to come because this guitar is as tone-ful as it is soulful. Love this Gretsch & highly recommend it to players at every level.

I've been playing for over 40 years and gear like this still gets me excited & keeps making music fun & enjoyable as it always has been. Thanks for reading!

Comments about Gretsch Guitars G5622T Electromatic Center Block Semi-Hollow Electric Guitar:

I am playing this through a few pedals depending on desired gain (t-rex Moeller, Tube Screamer, OCD)along with wah, etc. to taste. I have a collection of the standards (Les Paul, ES-335, Strat, Tele) but normally gig with a PRS 3-pickup Special (H-S-H)which is a great versatile guitar.

I've had the gretsch for a couple weeks and I cannot put it down. I am most impressed by the flawless fit and finish, a feel that fits me perfectly, and the variety of sounds. Bridge pick up wiht OCD and you can do a reasonable '80's hair band thing. Scoop the mids and, well, you know.. The clean jangly thing is there as well.

I brought it to rehearsal and band agrees best looking thing they've seen (I have the green). They loved the sound although on the clean they said they preferred the "presence" of the PRS or the tele. Not worse, just different.

I have 12 guitars and have been playing for 30 years. This is my first guitar review. Nothing before has been this much fun, been as easy to bond with, and provided capability to play so many styles. All for under a grand.

Reading the other reviews it seems a set up is needed. Mines ok but some fret buzz... I'll get around to it.

Comments about Gretsch Guitars G5622T Electromatic Center Block Semi-Hollow Electric Guitar:

Gretsch has always been a top notch instrument and this model really is a fine piece of equipment. Out of box it was set up, intonated and in tune. Deep rich sound unplugged and very nice when amp added. Been playing a long time and this is a nice addition to the collection. MF is the best place to buy your gear, I would recommend calling and ordering from a Gear Head, especially in the Indiana location. My rep. Bill Turnbull x3249 is top of the line.

Action was a bit high, easy fix! Finish and fit, excellent! Wiring is series, pickups have an extremely wide frequency range. Even backing off the master volume can affect the high end, very cool! You can make this thing sound like just about every other guitar out there, with some tweaking!!

Frett buzz was coreected after setup adjustment. Bigsby works perfect without losing intonation. Craftmanship is very very good.

Classic Gretsch tone at a price much less than the US made model. Quality is much better than anticipated. Having trouble keeping it in perfect tune, but it is my first guitar with a bigsby so I just need to get the hang of it and perhaps apply bit of graphite on nut string grooves.

Comments about Gretsch Guitars G5622T Electromatic Center Block Semi-Hollow Electric Guitar:

Beautiful guitar. I like the large frets and the neck is a joy to play on. I got the red one, looks quite nice. I can't say anything bad about this, which is good..lol.
The 3 pickup configuration and Bigsby give this guitar a lot of versatility for playing several genre's of electric guitar music. I wish it came with at least a gig bag to put it in. Now I need to get a case to store it in :)

Comments about Gretsch Guitars G5622T Electromatic Center Block Semi-Hollow Electric Guitar:

I was not looking, but came across the Electromatic line at my local Guitar Center. I played it for about an hour in the store, thought about it for a while, and then bought the Georgia Green G5622T. I just couldn't make myself walk away, even though I had no budget for this guitar. I missed a few meals, and had to scrounge for rent money, but it was completely worth it. I replaced the stock strings with flatwound 11s, and discovered tone for days! The various combinations of pickups and switches make this guitar flexible enough to play just about anything, from jazz to heavy rock. I have not discovered a bad tone yet. This guitar wants to play clean sounds, but push it, and you will discover some great overdriven grunts and barks. Pull back a bit, and enjoy the saturated, cleans. From Jazz to Classic Rock, to Pop, to (some types of) metal, this guitar has it all. I've been playing it non-stop for days, and cannot praise this outrageously good guitar enough. Get one!

My $3000 Gretsch is better, but not THAT much better. This guitar seems to have more resonance and fluidity than most Electromatics. Not an inexpensive bargain, but a good guitar.

I remember the old Gretsch factory in Brooklyn and not being able to afford one. Gretsch had a quality that was unsurpassed. This guitar came out of the box in tune, perfect setup and intonation. Flawless in appearance, just like the old days...but now affordable.
My gear head Billy Turnbull ext 3249 matched price with another store and saved me money. He is a great person to deal with, give him a shout. MF and I go back many years and they never let you down.
As far as those who have said it is a bit too heavy...seriously!! You are young and ready to rock all night and this guitar gets you there with multiple sound combos that are over the top.
Treat yourself to playing a fine instrument and an affordable price and get this one. Exercise a little and the guitar won't weigh you down.

Comments about Gretsch Guitars G5622T Electromatic Center Block Semi-Hollow Electric Guitar:

This is a very fine guitar, especially for the price. I bought the "Georgia Green" and it's simply beautiful. The action is very low, and the 5th and 6th strings buzz off of the fretboard a bit if I'm a little aggressive with them. But it's a dream to play, and very easy for quick movement around the fingerboard.

I've gotta say that if this is a lower-end Gretsch, then I can't wait until a "Country Gentleman" or Setzer signature is in my budget.
