Rockin with a Maple Neck

By Adamas72

from Torrington, CT.

I have played a "T" and am going to buy one. The top paint job is very cool. I must play it with a strap even sitting down, but the sturdy neck and it's shape make it easy to play. Ovation has built into this gutiar quality and for the price, sound and durability it is a great value.

Best live acoustic electric I have owned

I own an Adamas, a pair of 6778 standatd lx, a 1778t elite, and a bunch of Ibanez electric guitars. This acoustic/electric has the best sound and feedback control with a stable neck that stays in tune like nothing else I have ever owned and giged with in over 20 years of stage time. I like it twice as much as the Adamas. It is way less costly and you can sweat on the finish without worrying about smudges on stage. Yes its icky to think about but a reality of playing live. Summer outside festivals to inside bars, this is my favorite A/E guitar. Get One. Try for the op-pro if you can find it. You will feel the same way.

Instant classic

I saved up and bought this guitar and it was worth twice the price! I tried out a new ovation at the local music store and was impressed. So when I saw this guitar I flipped on looks alone. I got the Black version 'cause I think the flames look cheesy. But the sound is what really sold me. The sound blew away my Gibson Dove and the Martin a friend of mine plays. I had tons of people commenting on the sound and the awesome look of the guitar. Super clean sound that sounds great on it's own and even better plugged in. If your considering a Taylor, Martin, or some other guitar for over a grand, do yourself a favor and get one that sounds as good or better, looks better and costs half the price--get this guitar!

EXTREMELY COMFORTABLE...

By RJohn

from Millersville, PA

I have owned this guitar for five years, and this is by far the most comfortable acoustic guitar I haev ever played or owned. The neck is very similar to a Strat--great action and intonation. The neck does not have a high gloss finish on it like many other guitars, which only adds to it's incredible playability. I rarely have tuning problems, and the plugged in sound is absolutely sweet. I've received numerous compliments from other guitar players playing guitars costing two to three times as much as mine about how great my guitar sounds live. The guitar has a very bright, punchy sound when unplugged, so it's great when you're just noodling around the house. The textured black finish doesn't show fingerprints, and can withstand the perils of sweat and drink spills when playing live. I don't believe there's another guitar that can stand up to the abuse this guitar can take in this price range. I have several other acoustic guitars, but my Ovation 1778T Elite T is my "go to" guitar. It has never let me down. If you are seriously looking for a reliable, "workhorse" instrument, do yourself a favor and try this guitar..you won't be disappointed.

acoustic aficionados rejoice!

By DeskLazer-UXRNI

from Bethel Park, PA

After seeing kaki king [among others] play ovation guitars, I just absolutely had to try one. what was with the weird holes? I tell you what, this is an AMAZING acoustic if you're into the tapping style of playing of guitarists such as kaki/justin king, michael hedges, etc. Even without plugging in, I was dumbfounded as to how well it voiced itself out. Most people won't like the plastic feel of the bowl, but I think more guitars will eventually be made that way. Ovation should be heralded for providing such a deep sound out of such a light instrument. It's nice that it's made in the USA too. great guitar, get it in the black.

When i purchased this guitar i was a little skeptic because i was afraid the Enamel body wont give me the option getting harmonics with a bright tone. Boy was i wrong. Even better harmonics than the wooden body guitars. This guitar ps perfect. Looks real differnt for the better and sounds great. nice neck. My stupid sister droped it before and not a scratch! Thank god! She's lickey.

I was looking for an acoustic guitar that can give a good bass sound if unplugged. I tried Taylor, Takamine, Washburn.. But when I plugged the T, it shocked me. It gave me the sound I'm looking for. It sound very acoustic. For plugged acoustic, this is what I recommend. The best sound for a good price.

Wonderful guitar. I got rid of an alvarez and martin in favor of this guitar. This guitar plays better than both but most importantly sounds better. Good rich tone with long sustain. Good lows like martin and good highs like taylor. Very good string balance. Check out this guitar you will not be disappointed. I've been playing for 15 years and this is the best acoustic i've ever seen or played. The enamel finish may not appeal to some but if they heard the guitar with their eyes closed they'd be sold!! Thanks ovation for a quality good priced USA made guitar. This guitar plays all styles of music with equal quality sound.

Something different - fell in love immediately

By PhilosopherA-z3WIT

I picked this guitar off the wall at a Guitar Center this weekend and messed around with it for a few minutes. I fell in love with it and definitely want to buy one soon. I have not played it plugged in yet, so I don't know how the electronics sound, but this is one beautiful-sounding guitar unplugged. The volume is loud and the tone is balanced. The neck is easy to play and feels more like an electric than a dreadnought. The action is low and there is no fret buzzing. I tested open chords, barre chords, and bent single notes. The guitar performed flawlessly. But the most obvious thing is that the entire guitar looks and feels like it is made out of some kind of plastic. I have no idea what this guitar is made out of, but I think it is the way guitars will be made in the future. Whatever the guitar is made out of, it looks tough. This guitar won't be broken if you bump it against a table and it won't be scratched by your wallet chain. Unusual looks indeed, but the craftsmanship is of high quality and the instrument looks beautiful close up. I just wish it had fretboard inlays.

Ovation did good, very good.

By Neil Kraft

from Northwest Ohio

Here's the thing that bothers me, every body's got a million different acoustic models, with different colors, woods, and features, and they all look and sound like acoustic guitars. Some of them even when made by a different manufacturer look identical. Most of these models cost way too much, put any name you want on them, I don't care. Ovation is guilty of this also. But with this black elite you get all the top end features and it sounds good. It sounds like a good electric and a great acoustic. For the price it's totally impossible to get this guitar by any other manufacturer(ebony fretboard-flame maple neck-good tuners-awesome electronics). Ovations are indestructable and when you get one that sounds good, you keep it forever. I've played my share of crappy ovations. This guitar is NOT a good one. The last two expensive acoustic/electric guitars I bought were Martin and Taylor. Sure they're nice but not as durable and versitile as this ovation. For the price I could have bought two of these ovations. Come to think of it, I will buy another one of these.

It has a little deeper tone than the other Ovations, but sometimes that is a good thing. Nice fingerpicker, comfortable neck.

ovation 1778t elite black ,{ no flames}.

By Narrow Margin/Blackroze

from Chicagoland

See all my reviews

I expected this guitar to have the same old brite tone my other older Ovations had but hurting for low end. I was really shocked. The 1778t elite has Beautiful well rounded full tones across the entire bandwidth including low end!!!!(again, unlike older mid or shallow bodies that were brite but lacking low end). Really fantastic when amplified, nice control with the op pro pre-amp.{say that 5 times fast !}The on board tuner is a little loose but it works o.k. Very easy to play and easily tunes / adjusts to your playing style. Comfort level on the neck is fantastic also. Not "chunky" like my 96 Balladeer. I like playing this over my new 6778lx and that is a very sweet guitar in its own right. I play live and write music with the band I have been with for years and only wish this was made sooner with this pre-amp. The 1778t elite is perfect for our over all sound playing todays alternative rock or classic rock. I am pleased Ovation is on a roll and has shown it can do what it takes to get it right. This is my #1 pick. Just a little side note:If you are in the market... Go for the U.S.A. made Ovation guitars. They are worth the extra money. I know first hand the overseas versions will not compare to the U.S.A. models.

Sounds like no other

By Urinalmynt

from Flint, MI

The sound of this guitar is phenominal compared to the other acoustics I tried. The sound was so good that even my fiancee, who is not a musician could hear how much better it was. The action on this guitar is unreal, I've played things on it that I would never have even tried on an average acoustic...it feels like an electric on the neck. Harmonics are great, lows and highs ring bell like and clear. It's a great guitar and I gaurantee you'll get complimented both on its sound and look.

Awesome and durable

By Anonymous

from Undisclosed

This guitar is made of a good composite material. It's hard and well shaped. The sound is even better than most wood guitars and for the price - it's a steal. I bought one the other day at my local music shop and love it. Its acoustic sound is one of a kind, and the built-in preamp has many features. You can remove it and replace it with another one if you need more options or sound control. Best guitar around!
