Ovation finally did it. After all of the prototypes and development augmentations, they have created a production model of Al Di's favorite and finest Custom Legend 1769 AL DII.I was lucky enought to be Al Di's Guitar Tech on tour to Russia in 2001. (That's after Henry and before Benny) Everything about this axe is Bad Ass! Let's jump past the deadly good looks and dig right into the instrument. Contrary to popular description, this is a mid bowl size instrument. It's brain is the OP-Pro pre-amp. With a big dialable gain knob, 3 band, plus pre-EQ quick set button and a large LED tuner display, it makes controlling the sound of this axe espespcially simple on stage. The Scale length at 25" 1/4 and nut width at 1" 11/16ths is just like you're used to so transition from your other axe's is seemless. The one feature that is not mentioned here in the specs is that this beauty sports an additional LOW Z output and can take Phantom power! Finally to get the killer AlDi sound consider a custom MOD that installs the Roland GK-3. You are well on your way to be shredd'n with the master himself.www.myspace.com/roshow

I purchased this Ovation model about 3 months ago based on previous experience with Ovation products and the quality. Positive Comments: The guitar sounds great plugged in and the electronics are easy to use. The neck feels great. This guitar stays in tune beautifully.Negative Comments: I own a 1976 Ovation Custom Balladeer. The quality and workmanship on this older guitar is better than this new one. The Al DiMeola had fairly high action when I got it and I had to adjust it to be truly playable. The finish already has small scratches in it from picking. I'm not a "violent" picker so this shouldn't be happening. My older Ovation doesn't have any scratches after 30 years! Removing and re-inserting the pre-amp was a nightmare. It would only pop out halfway and I had to use a large set of pliers to get it out - scratching the plastic in the process. One minor note is the guitar smells like plastic. It doesn't have a sweet wood smell like my old Ovation. I have been fairly disappointed with this guitar for the money I spent.

    Al DiMeola Signature Ovation

    By danstune

Comments about Ovation Al DiMeola Signature Model Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

This guitar sounds wonderful and looks absolutely stunning! The bass response is comparable to my Martin D28 and the electronics are outstanding. What a fine instrument and definitely lives up to its price and advertisement. I strongly recommend this guitar for serious players.

    Great guitar, lousy company

Comments about Ovation Al DiMeola Signature Model Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

I own this guitar and love the Ovation sound. This is my second Ovation. But I recently sent in my Ovation Legend to get the binding repaired, due to cheap material, and I am still waitng( it's been over 5 months now) for it to be returned. I love the guitar but will never buy another Ovation due to this situation. I just hope I get it back soon!!!

Incredible!...Even for those who hates Ovations

Comments about Ovation Al DiMeola Signature Model Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

Very good construction! Loud but still balance in all over the board. Strong projection and warm sound! Comfort neck. Deep bowl...(I think that Ovation must go back to the deep bowls to compete Martin-Santa cruz-Breedlove etc). Great electronics with a feel of natural sound. y far the best Ovation i have ever play! Great for solos but still nice for rythm playing! I do not want to compare it with a Martin! It is a completely different guitar!

Comments about Ovation Al DiMeola Signature Model Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

I went to the store intending to buy a lesser guitar. For just a little more, I got this one. Deep bowl model, very important. Lots of abalone. On-board tuner. Most of all, it play and sounds great. Lots of thump & jump!

    Awesome guitar

Comments about Ovation Al DiMeola Signature Model Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

This guitar along with Paco DeLucia's guitar are the ultimate shredfest guitars. I would to love to own this guitar especially if he used it in Friday Night In San Fransico. The only thing strange about this guitar, that will never effect the proformance of this awesome guitar is the strap knobs. I dont think Al Dimeola usually stands up when doing his solos (that would be kinda hard) I love this guitar and wish I owned it

    Well worth the price!

    By SevenSpirits

Comments about Ovation Al DiMeola Signature Model Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

I bought this guitar because of the deep bowl and the additional "trip switch" db booster located on the top, next to the neck. It plays like a dream and I am definitely satisfied. I have not heard or felt it's equal when plugged in within this price range. The additional XLR jack with phantom power capability is also a plus for live performance, which was also important to me. Regarding potential shortcomings, the preamp graphic equalizer could be a little more sophisticated but I have found that it works just fine for my purposes.

Comments about Ovation Al DiMeola Signature Model Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

This is the best sounding guitar I have ever used. I have played Gibon, Taylor, Martin's. All of them are good giutars. But this Ovation beats them all hands down. The neck action on th axe is superb. I can't say enough about the electronics. If there were an eleventh star, I would give it to this guitar. Don't say no. Go and try one out and you will see.
