Was looking for an attractive and easy to play acoustic for my daughter's first guitar. She wanted an acoustic although I wanted to get her an electric since I know, as an experienced player, how much easier electrics are to play. This guitar was a perfect compromise with a slender profile making it easier for her to hold without having to reach so far around a large body to strum/pick the strings. The action is nice and low and very playable. I can't claim the guitar plays like a higher quality guitar (and higher cost) once you get up past around the 5th or 7th fret but for a beginner, she's not likely to be playing much up there anyway. That said, playing bar chords and single note riffs aren't bad even up higher, just not great. The visual appeal is one of the highlights as it is really a beautiful instrument. Additional kudos go for a good job of filing the edges of the frets, a common flaw with cheaper instruments, but not this time. I might end up taking the strings off and giving them a light filing at the edges, but even as it is there's none of that feeling of dragging your hand along a cheese grater you've probably experienced with some cheap imports. Overall, 9.5 out of 10... hard to complain given the onboard electronics, great looks, and above average playability.

This guitar is worth every dollar I paid for it. I was torn when it came time to buy because I wanted an ovation, but being a novice player I could not see spending that kind of money.I read all the reviews on this site and checked reviews on a couple of other sites and decided to go with the Applause AE 148. I'm glad I did because I love this guitar it plays like an electric the action could be a little lower but thats a easy fix. The sound unpluged has a real nice tone and is plenty loud to practice without an amp. But pluged in it really comes alive and it has an EQ so you can really dial in the sound your looking for.Worth every dollar go get one I bet you will love it too.

Comments about Ovation Applause Series AE148 Super Shallow Cutaway Acoustic-Electric Guitar:
This is absolutely the easiest guitar and with the best tone I have ever played and heard. The sound this guitar produces is amazing. The ease of play and nice fret board size makes this a gem . The workmanship is beautiful . Whether your a beginner or a pro, I would recommend this Ovation Applause to everyone. I love and enjoy playing this guitar and I love the tones it makes. I also bout a AG30 Amp made by Acoustic and with the mixing of the highs and lows and with the added Effects built into the Amp , this Ovation sounds magnificent.

Comments about Ovation Applause Series AE148 Super Shallow Cutaway Acoustic-Electric Guitar:
Don't let the Price put you off this Guitar, yes it is Inexpensive, but trust me,it's NOT Cheap & Plays as good as a TON of Guitars costing twice and even three times as much,Unfortunately the First Guitar I recieved had a totally Dead third Fret and Major Fret Buzz pretty much on the entire neck,But these things happen man & as Always "Musicians Friend" TAKES CARE of it's customers and wasted NO time in hooking me up with a Replacement axe,and this one is Perfect, and I have to say these are Beautiful Looking Guitars, that sound & play VERY close to the much higher priced "Ovation" line,in fact,I think you would be hard pressed to tell the Difference between the two if you played them side by side,I am not saying that the AE 148 will play or sound as sweet as a thousand clams
Ovation..because it will not,but it will give those mid priced Ovations a serious run for their money any day,and that is pretty darn Impressive in my book, cheers and gr8 playing:)

Comments about Ovation Applause Series AE148 Super Shallow Cutaway Acoustic-Electric Guitar:
I purchased the Applause as a birthday gift for my son. Of course I had to give it a "test run" before his birthday. I loved the look and feel of the guitar and was blown away by the sound. My son fell in love at first sight and was really hooked when he played the Applause.

Comments about Ovation Applause Series AE148 Super Shallow Cutaway Acoustic-Electric Guitar:
I bought this thing 3 years ago from a guitar center and it was my first acoustic guitar. I have been playing this thing for the longest time and it never leaves my side. The sound is excellent, the only issue is that the action started out high, but that is natural for acoustics and the pickup system is wicked sensitive so be careful on how much gain you add. I had an Ovation CC24 used, and this thing sounds so much better. Guitar Center actually did something right for once.

musicians friend has never let me down and ive ordered hundreds worth of equipment from them over the years. this is just another example of quality equipment they sell. it plays and sounds great. ive owned a 12 string ovation back years ago but didnt care for the rounded back but this shallow body doesnt seem different from a flat back.

Very nice tones and projection. I feel as if this guitar should have cost me much more money for its quality. Bottom line...this is my new favorite guitar i own.
Comments about Ovation Applause Series AE148 Super Shallow Cutaway Acoustic-Electric Guitar:
I have always wanted an Ovation but could not see paying the higher price. Although it is a shallow body, this thing sounds very full by itself. Plug it in to an amp and be amazed by the tonal quality. For an acoustic variety the action is great out of the box and rivals some of my high end electrics. don't let the low price scare you off, this is an excellent instrument.

Comments about Ovation Applause Series AE148 Super Shallow Cutaway Acoustic-Electric Guitar:
I picked this guitar up at my local music store in the Red Ruby Burst version. I've had this instrument since November 2012, and it's January 2013. This guitar sounds amazing when a set of elixirs are put on. The Battery compartment is on the outside, unlike a lot of other guitars, where it's inside.
This guitar is fantastic, and it is one of the best acoustic-electric guitars that you can get for the money.
