The koa grain is absolutely stunning. It has drawn quite a few comments. No adjustment were required to the neck or action. The setup was perfect out of the box. This is now my favorite guitar in over 40 years of playing.
The koa version of this guitar is absolutely beautiful, with a sound to match. It has a very loud and bright sound unplugged, but plugged in you can tweak the sound to anything you desire with the onboard EQ. The onboard tuner is an awesome addition.
I got this recently as a gift, and wow, it's totally blown me away. First off, I got the natural top, and the picture they have on here is no comparison. I've dabbled on friend's martin's and Taylors before, but I've never seen a guitar that looks this beautiful. The wood is just the deepest honey blonde I've ever seen, and overall it's the most handsome of all the instruments I own (which is quite a few). Getting to what's actually important, the sound is really good on this guitar, with a nice tight bottom end. It does not sound huge like a Dreadnought unplugged, but that's not the magic of an ovation. Through a soundsystem this guitar just sweeps the floor, I play it through a Roland AC-60 chorus amp and it sounds absolutely fantastic. The feel is even better than the sound, as it's somewhere between a traditional acoustic and an electric, making it comfortably playable to the highest fret. Great guitar for a great price.
I just received the koa and its amazing. Don't believe the myths about a weak sound. The sound is full for the price with and without an amp. I recommened it.
First..my model LOOKS way better than the pics! I have seen a few of these and they ALWAYS look way better than in any of the pics! And I ALWAYS hear what a beautiful guitar it is EVERY time I pull it out of the case!SOUND...between ovation's incredible sound and electronics, the koa wood only ADDS to it's performance! I play various music from contemporary to country, and this guitar keeps up with anyone and any sound! even bluegrass a bit!Tha action is great! The electronics are incredible! I ALWAYS hear "wow! that sounds so awesome plugged in!" Ovation has that down to perfection!Unplugged otr plugged in....this is an awesome guitar! and for the price...you can't beat it! just get an ovation case to keep it secure & safe...and you'll be fine! trust me...I've played ovations all my life and have owned a number of them through my time! this is an awesome guitar I knew i had to have as soon as i saw it!oh yeah---on board tuner! a definite plus too!don't wait...buy it!!!
I bought this Guitar a few months ago, besides being just beautiful,( I have the natural Koa ) and only needing a little neck adjustment for the set up, it turned out to be unusually durable. I was at the top of my stairway with my guitar on, about to walk down to the basement, when both ends of my guitar strap slipped out, and I watched in slow motion as my Guitar went end over end down the steps, hit a platform, hung a left and went down 7 more steps to the basement cement floor !!!! Expecting nothing but a busted up guitar I was amazed to find the Ovation was intact, and not a scratch or a dent or even a nic anywhere !!! I did have to re-tune however ! That was two weeks ago, still no problem....go ahead buy this guitar, get a case and some "strap locks".....
This is a great guitar for someone who is wanting to play acoustic then switch to electric you'll have no problem. I thought the strings were closer together at first but i got used to it. Great sound plugged in or not.
