Comments about Ovation Celebrity CC44 Mid-Depth Contour Acoustic-Electric Guitar:
This is a great guitar. I'm already an Ovation fan, and this guitar met my expectations. I had to list only one con so I listed bowl depth (how big the guitar is) but it's not so big that it's a con, just that I would've liked this same guitar in a slightly more shallow version. But it sounds great, works great, and the onboard tuner helps immensely. I really have nothing to complain about: it's a good guitar and a good purchase.
Comments about Ovation Celebrity CC44 Mid-Depth Contour Acoustic-Electric Guitar:
So I had been seriously shopping and playing every guitar in this price range for months before purchasing the Celebrity Quilt top. I love its playability. The action was consistent every time I picked a stock one up. The on board tuner is very accurate, and incredibly helpful. Be careful to keep this in a humidity/temp controlled room or in its case with a humidifier, as it will want to go "belly up" (the top curves out just under the bridge) this happend on mine, it however did not affect the action and still sounds amazing. Two of the other teachers at the music school I teach at constantly compliment the quality of the sound, and the guitar teacher steals it regularly and brings it into his class (he plays a Taylor 410). The guitar reproduces beautifully when plugged in, Ovation kept the controls in the electronics incredibly simple, however there is little variation when the controls are moved. And yes, it is an Ovation with a rounded back, fat or skinny this guitar wants to roll up on you while playing. The "Standing Ovation" from Great Scott Mfg. takes care of that, but sitting I never notice it as a problem. The rounded back does produce a beautiful sound. And have I mentioned it is a great guitar to look at. It is so pretty, non-players want to play it all the time. The looks far exceed anything in this price range.
Comments about Ovation Celebrity CC44 Mid-Depth Contour Acoustic-Electric Guitar:
This guitar ushers in my first foray into acoustic music. Keeping the price low was a priority to see if I had any aptitude for acoustic playing. I chose this guitar as the mid depth bowl gave it just the right balance of richness and articulation that I was looking for. I tend to do alot of acoustic shredding. Uplugged is where the guitar sounds best. Just a great tone all the way around. Plugged in, it tends to sound brittle in the upper registers. The high end freqs can get way too accentuated. But when you play "the traditional way", such as open chords, it sounds quite good. This guitar apparently has Ovation's baseline preamp system. Not many options and the 3 band eq is not very responsive at all. The on board tuner, however, is accurate and indispensable. The action was quite high w/ D'Addario medium gauge strings, which was brutal on my fingers. But a tech fixed that issue. Several was the frets are slightly uneven and require dressing. Not so much that notes fret out, but I have to live with buzz until I can get that fixed.I would say this is a good student guitar that sounds good and will last, but if I show the progress in acoustic playing that I'm looking for, I will stick with Ovation but will certainly upgrade.
