I bought this guitar about 7 years ago. Musicians Friend was offering a great deal and it was a Tobacco Burst which is a great looking finish.
It playes like a guitar costing twice as much. I removed the shims and put light strings on it so it plays like butter. I put a rubber soundhole cover on it and it can be played through the pa system with minimal feedback at stage volume. It also sounds pretty good without amplification but it really shines when you plug it in. Overall probably the best bang for your buck especially if you are giging with it. Buy it. You wont be dissapointed.

Comments about Ovation Celebrity SS Super Shallow Contour Acoustic-Electric Guitar:
I've had my Celebrity for about twenty years (before they added an on-board tuner), never had a problem with it. The action is great, with no fret buzz anywhere. Unplugged, the sound isn't fantastic but it's not bad; amped, it can be great. With the shallow bowl, the projection can be a little timid, particularly if you play with a light touch (I do), but I'll trade that for the comfort of the thin body and just plug in when necessary/desired. The tuners are nice and smooth, no slop, and do a great job keeping the guitar in tune. If you've never played a round-back guitar, a word of advice: either plan on playing while standing or adhere a strip of something 'grippy' to the lower waist of the body to prevent the guitar from 'rolling'. Other than this, my only complaint about my guitar was the color I chose - black - which is terrible for showing dust/fingerprints/pick marks but, back in the day, that was the color I liked best out of the few choices I had. Oh well, live and learn... (I'd seriously consider buying another if they started offering it in a tabacco sunburst.)
If you're a beginner, I highly recommend this guitar based on its playability, and the fact that you'll be playing for a long time before you feel the need to get something better.
If you're experienced, well, you probably don't need/want my opinion (but it can be a great gigging guitar - sorry, I couldn't resist).

I've just started playing again. My fingers are not of the long, slender variety. These two factors make the Celebrity SS Super Shallow Contour Acoustic-Electric Guitar an excellent choice for me.
Love the on-board electronic tuner and readily accessible battery compartment.
No obvious construction defects; very attractive finish; sounds good acoustically; sounds even better plugged into my Acoustic amp.
Quality to cost ratio seems outstanding.

Just great, thanks!
I have waited years to get this guitar. I have played dozens of acoustic guitars over the past few years. After buying a beautiful Epiphone Dreadnaught over 10 years ago, I thought it was time for an Acoustic- Electric. I have admired many players of Ovation products...Glen Campbell, Eddie Rabbitt and Roy Clark, just to name a few. Started my search for an Ovation a year or so ago, never found the right deal till now, at Musicians Friend. I originally ordered a Condition 2 instrument, but was disappointed when it arrived with a major defect. My New Ovation Celebrity arrived a few days later in acceptable condition. It is a fine instrument in feel, looks, playability, and most of all...sound. A great guitar for all styles. I am very satisfied with my choice and with the service of Musicians Friend. Thanks to everyone at your company!
Clean assembly, nice finish, nice features. 3 band EQ, built in tuner...all you can ask for in a reasonably priced instrument. Intonation and action are great.
Quality found in higher priced guitars, for a fraction of the cost.

Have had a ovation applause around for 5 years and after setting it up considered it a good guitar with good electronics. The celebrity ss caught my eye and was supposed to be a step up.Well it is. They may look similar, but the ss is easier to play and the neck is faster than the applause ,this really surprised me .So overall I am happy with it.Very pretty ruby red ,great electronics and the built in tuner is a big plus. The guitar was set up very well at the factory with instructions to remove shims under the bridge if a closer fit on string height is desired.I do alot of classical finger picking to bangin out some doobies songs on it..I think the machine heads are very nice as the guitar stays in tune pretty good and cosmetically very nice.A beginner would probably like this guitar too because the strings are right distance from the neck and the thin neck makes it easy to reach and play to.I have been playing 40 years.

I bought this guitar and was so glad to get it. The reason i bought ovation is because they feel more like electric guitars and they're very comfortable. This guitar sounds great and looks great (especially in ruby red, it looks better in person) If you are looking for an acoustic guitar, and you dont want to spend a lot of money then dont hesitate to buy this!

I went to the local music shop and played every acoustic electric guitar(about 75) that they had. It came down to this in black and this in honey burst as the 2 best players in the house. Ive never owned an Ovation before and Im sorry for that. This thing plays so sweet and the sound is amazingly rich. The action is fantastic and fast, NO fret buzz under any use, and so smooth. For what this costs, and what you get, I would recommend this as a must buy. And the onboard tuner, pshhhh, I can't believe they threw that in too for that price. You don't have to hesitate on this one, it's a winner *****

I bought my guitar more than a year ago and I'm completely pleased with it. I use it at gigs, at home for pleasure and take it with we while on the road. While it is not my main guitar 100% of the time, I use it a lot for song writing. The sound is well balanced and pleasing. I replaced the original plastic nut and saddle for ones made out of bone and put a new set of Martin Silk and Steel light strings. The sound got even much better than it was. It wasn't necessary but I don't like plastic nut/saddles on my guitars. The finish is flawless and the sunburst colors were applied very skillfully as well as the abalone sound hole inlaid.Don't hesitate to buy this guitar, you'll love it.

I just got this guitar in the mail today. It was about 15 degrees out today and god knows how long it was sitting outside. I brought it in set it up and i can't notice a single weather damage flaw. The guitar play's great, there is a lot of adjustability and control of the sound using the pre-amp. The built in tuner is dead on too (I checked it with my electric tuner). The color i got it in (amber waterfall bubinga) looks much better in person than the picture and the gold hardware makes it look like it is more expensive than it actually was. The neck shape was a little wierd to me at first but after toying with it for a day i kinda like it. I reommend this for anyone who is looking for a good startup acoustic electric.
