I've been playing for about 15 years and this is my first ovation. I has been dropped, knocked over and has had its fair share of beer and other adult beverages spilled on it. Typical bar gig abuse. And still stays in tune very well. Good solid guitar. For the people who are looking for, or expect this thing to sound great unplugged, look further. These guitars are not designed for the unplugged situation. Plugged in they sound very good. I typically use Elixer 12's. I've never bought a guitar that I didn't make some minor action changes and this was no exception, but once it was set up to my liking, it plays beautifully. I run it through a Zoom A2 acoustic multi effects pedal along with and EQ, Volume, and Wah Pedal. All of that goes direct into a PA. I'm very happy with this set up, and have no plans to change. The only true complaint I have with mine is the Multiple sound hole design created massive amounts of feedback at higher levels. I fixed this problem by covering the sound holes from the inside of the guitar, by taking the back cover off to access them. I just used high density cardboard painted black to do this. You can't even tell unless you get up close, but now I can crank it with absolutely no feedback issues. Overall this is a great guitar. It gets played approx 225-250 shows a year and has never had a hiccup. Oh yea and the Battery life is outstanding. I can go nearly 20 shows before I change the battery.

Well this is a great guitar if you know 5 chords. I am picky. I try not to be negative but it just depresses me after 5 minutes of playing. Action could be better. I even set it up myself and after all the tweaking blah blah blah. Electronics sounds ok. I would not buy this again. Go check it out at a music store first, play it for 30 minutes and buy if you like. 2.5 because it plays bad.

    Real Ovation Quality

Comments about Ovation GC057 Celebrity Super Shallow Bowl Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

I got this guitar from my parents for my birthday, and it really lives up to the standards. This guitar has a beautiful sound, and even more beautiful plugged in. It makes a great campfire guitar and the synthetic back is extremely durable, and overall is just a great guitar. The only problem is the black finish shows every little fingerprint and scuff mark there is. But don't let this opportunity go. This guitar is quality without the bloated price.

Comments about Ovation GC057 Celebrity Super Shallow Bowl Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

I bought this guitar about a year ago and it has held up nice. The shallow body is very comfortable and easy to carry around. The sound is ok unplugged, a LOT better when using an amp. I prefer a traditional guitar but the fiberglass construction isn't bad at all. Overall pretty good guitar but I wouldnt recomend for anyone with background in acoustic guitar.

Very Nice Acoustic Electric for a Value Price

Comments about Ovation GC057 Celebrity Super Shallow Bowl Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

I really like this guitar for a number of reasons. The Super Shallow body is very comfortable to hold both sitting and standing.I think it sounds very good acoustically and outstanding when plugged in.Cosmetically it's a mixed bag.The Black top is flwless with the exception of the inside of the soundhole which didn't get enough paint. There were other little cosmetic things but I can overlook them when I hear the great tone.Tuners seem very good.Overall one of the great deals in this price range.

    Good for the $

Comments about Ovation GC057 Celebrity Super Shallow Bowl Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

I have had this guitar for about a year and got it in a rush when i was asked to play an acoustic gig. I regret not putting more research into the guitar because the fretboard on this guitar is somewhat difficult to play and hurts your fingers as you play (no its not because i haven't developed calluses, ive been playing for 5+ years). As far as sound, it is a 3.5/5 sounding best when plugged in. It's sound while unplugged is poor and does not easily resonate.

Comments about Ovation GC057 Celebrity Super Shallow Bowl Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

This is a fine sounding guitar. The built in tuner is a plus. It is similar to an old Applause that I wore out years ago. It appears to be soildly built. I use it as a backup instrument, open tuned for sliding and picking. I am an old timer and find that the action is hard on my arthritis to play in standard tuning. I haven't got the strength in my hands. I plan to keep it. It rings out clearly and is very sweet sounding.

    Great instrument

    By ratiug6

Comments about Ovation GC057 Celebrity Super Shallow Bowl Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

This is my 3rd Ovation. I have a deep-bowl Balladeer, a shallow-bowl Balladeer with cutaway and the black Celebrity. I've had this instrument for a couple of months and play it regularly. It has an on-board tuner which isn't mentioned in the specs, which I consider a plus. No more hunting for my tuner. The action and sound is excellent. It has become my primary guitar and I would recommend it to anyone considering buying one. The strings that came with it were a little heavy for my liking, I prefer extra-lite (10-46). Very minor. Try it, you'll like it!

    Best guitar for its price

    By Stratomaster-y6wy7

Comments about Ovation GC057 Celebrity Super Shallow Bowl Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

I bought this guitar last year, thinking I'd turn around and sell it as soon as I could, but I started playing with it, and realized that this thing is the best guitar out there that you can get for $300. This thing has minor action issues that can easily be solved, and the intonation is awesome. this thing stays in tune very well, and sounds incredible plugged in. Granted you lose some of the sound because it's a super shallow bowl, but when you plug in, you aren't gonna hear the richness of a mid level anyway. Great bang for your buck!

    Very pleased!

    By OvationAlways

Comments about Ovation GC057 Celebrity Super Shallow Bowl Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

Bought this after having my Baladere destroyed and not having the cash to buy the same. Was very nervous about what the quality would be. Not nervous anymore! Action was perfect out of the box. Finish was flawless. Sound is great plugged in but lacks a little low end unplugged-this is due to the super shallow bowl. Have to say I love it. I play it hard everyday and it doesn't even lose tune-Aparently Ovation really does have quality control over their imported guitars. I am buying another one just a different finish.
