No other guitar is so steeped in Ovation history like the Standard Balladeer.

Over the course of 3 decades Ovation has fine-tuned the Balladeer, component by component. The result is the Standard Balladeer 1861, an acoustic-electric guitar with incredible value that's the envy of every guitar maker in its class.

The Ovation Standard Balladeer 1861 AX Guitar features a super-shallow cutaway bowl, and modified bracing to maximize acoustic response. This acoustic-electric crossover starts with a solid spruce top for full-balanced tone and a natural beauty. Scalloped LX-bracing offers a fine tune for the instrument's tone. The bound rosewood fretboard and rosewood bridge add crisp, clear sustain to the guitar, so those notes can ring out long and true. The rosette features a subtle oak leaf design that will pique the interest of your crowd, appreciating this 6-string's charm. Chrome tuning machines, dot diamond inlays, and a full-bodied finish dresses the Ovation 1861 guitar in beauty.

At the heart of the Standard Balladeer 1861 AX Acoustic Electric lies the impressive OP-Pro preamp system that has made Ovation a household name. Designed in collaboration with Al DiMeola and Melissa Etheridge, the OP-Pro combines state-of-the-art audio quality with guitarist-friendly features for a preamp that should please even the most discriminating player.

Nowadays, purely acoustic guitars are a rarity on stage. Over the last few decades, Ovation has maintained a steady legacy of quality in the acoustic-electric realm. Interesting to note that today, more than 95% of all Ovations sold around the world are acoustic-electrics. It now offers systems to suit almost any particular taste and application.

Comments about Ovation Standard Balladeer 1861 AX Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

It has great tone plugged in or unplugged. You have to use a strap all the time because it slips away due to the shape but it is a very light-weight and comfortable guitar.

Comments about Ovation Standard Balladeer 1861 AX Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

I am a guitar player for many decades. I been playing since my early teens and now in my fifties. Most of my life I've had cheap Fendar, Kay and Sammick acoustics, to include a few Applause. Since I become stable in life I could finally afford better guitars. I own Martin D-15, Gibson Les Paul. I wanted a larger bowl Ovation, but this caught my eye, so I purchased it. When it arrived I found the quality and action was nearly erfect. The sound projection isn't the same tone as my Martin, but it is ok. The comfort of the neck and playability is great! Overall this is one great guitar. The company has gone to extremes to insure quality! And if it was labeled "made in the usa", it would cost twice as much and very few would buy it.

1861 AX this is a Great Guitar!

Comments about Ovation Standard Balladeer 1861 AX Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

I am very pleased with this guitar and would highly recommend.
I currently own two acoustics other than this Ovation a Fender Acoustic and a classic Gibson 1967 J45. I have owned everything from Larivee's too way to many cheap guitars like cort or dean. I have been playing 16 years and during that time I have had probably 30 guitars. This is by far one of my favorite! The person criticizing it because it is not made in America, does not own one. (read the review) the criticism is about where it is built not the quality or playability of the guitar. As far as that goes, I wish it was made in America because I think that is a good thing for the economy. And the bowl was made here, so I am happy about that. But does that mean the guitar will sound better? One reason guitars made in America cost is the cost of labor here is higher, that is the main reason. Are Americans somehow better guitar builders or more dedicated to their craft than Koreans? I do not think so. When all is said and done, this guitar is a great instrument and sounds as good as my friends Martin (made in America.) It has great projections and the neck is perfect for barring.
I could not find anything wrong with this guitar, very high quality!
Value is what makes this guitar so great. When I bought it I was looking at guitar with all solid body wood, that was my stipulation. Until I found this, the price was better and the sound was equal, I have been playing with a guy who has a top of the line Martin and this guitar holds its own. The sound is different but the quality of tone is there, top notch.

Comments about Ovation Standard Balladeer 1861 AX Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

I played this in my local guitar store and was really amazed, it sounds amazing unplugged and it has very low string tension(in a good way), the neck plays insanely easily, even by electric standards and I though the tuner was a really nice touch. This is an amazing guitar and for the bucks it's a steal.
