I had resisted buying Ovations in the past because of the round back, making the guitar slip away. Not so with this one because of the contoured back. This guitar sounds very good plugged in - my main reason for buying. The action out of the box was rather high. I removed the strip under the saddle which made the action just perfect for my playing style. If you are out looking for a good acoustic-electric without spending a lot of $$$, check this guitar out.
I bought this a few weeks ago and can;t put it down. It has such a rich tone unplugged, and simply sings plugged in. Having the ability to bypass the EQ at the push of a button and play direct really comes in handy. The inlay in the neck is clean and beautiful. The pickup is awesome, and the nice indentation designed onto these new bowls improved fit while playing seated or standing. I used to have a shallow bowl because, and this medium bowl with indentation actually feel better and more stable. One thing I will say is toss the factory strings and pick up your favorite set of aftermarkets. That made an instant differance for me. This guitar is partially assembled overseas, but the final assembly is done in the USA, and it shows. The constructions is flawless. I wish the made this exact model in a classic sunburst finish. That would be the only improvement I would suggest.
I had an Ovation that I bought back in the 80s and loved it. It met with an unfortunate accident and have tried to find affordable substitutes for it since. This is it! Great sound acoustic or plugged in. I will be dumping the factory strings and lowering the action a bit, but other than that it's great. Not the best woodgrain but that's not a deal breaker. I recommend it.
I got this guitar About a month ago.I was looking for a professianal guitar to perform with. the Ovation Ultra was amazing, it is the best acoustic I have ever played. I was worried about the plasstic back bieng uncomfertable but it is better than the wood backed guitars i own. Change the strings and it will sound much better i dident think it could sound any better but it did. An amzing guitar!
Our worship leader at church & I bought this ax for my son who is going off to college. WOW!Talk about bang for yer buck! This is a great sounding ax, the fit & finish are perfect, and I am thinking of getting one for myself! If you are on the fence about buying one of these, GO FOR IT! You won't believe how good it sounds!(we lowered the action a bit, & changed the strings, but thats it!) Love it!!
I took a chance buying this gem. The first thing I noticed when opening the box was how beautiful the guitar looked. I purchased the sunburst model, and these pictures don't do it any justice. The action was set perfectly right out of the box, and the neck has a very nice feel to it, thinner than other acoustic necks I've played. The body shape is truly made for comfort. Unlike the Ovation shallow bodies, this guitar has a full sized body that sits comfortable sitting or standing. I was expecting the sound to be different because of the plastic back, but the tone sounds identical to an all solid wood guitar. The electronics are simple yet great, with the 3 band EQ and built in tuner. My only complaint is that there are some signs of shoddy craftsmanship, such as a drop of glue on the rosette and some small scratches along the body where the neck was glued in. But I would sacrifice that for such a great guitar at this low price.
I've played some great Ovation guitars and they're not all the same.Well almost, the biggest gripe I've always had, is Ovation guitars tend to slip away from your stomach/lap as you play. Not with the new form fitted back on the Ultra, its very comfy and I hate to say it, but as you get older some tend to bulge at the belt-line. The ultra has crossed the line and acts like any other flat backed guitar. This guitar is a winner, the finish work and appointments are top notch, the electronics are impressive, and the sound is balanced. For me the neck is a little tight but fast. The tuner is cool if you need it, and changing the battery is slick. I highly recommend the Ovation hard-shell case for this beauty. This is a great value.
I just received my ultra 2071 and I can't believe the quality for the price! If you're in the market for an acoustic-electric, don't let this one get away. It has a beautiful sound and the EQ gives you quite a bit of flexibility. Nice neck action, and it looks great. Change the strings.
I have played this acoustic guitar a couple of times in the store and I fell in love with it. It sounds great played through my amp or without, and the quality is the same as the american made guitar saving the money of the LX models.
