A full-featured mid-priced acoustic-electric with exceptional feel and playability.
Ovation Ultra Series guitars use sub-assemblies made at the offshore Ovation factory and are then shipped to New Hartford CT, where our skilled craftsmen carry out the final assembly and setup operations. The result is a professional level acoustic-electric guitar with the feel and playability of upscale USA-made Ovation guitars.
Features such as the Deep Contour body, scalloped LX bracing, "soft V" neck profile, and the OP-Pro preamp make the 2171 Ovation guitar one of the best values in the mid-priced acoustic/electric market.
The OP-Pro preamp system in the 2171 guitar was developed to work specifically with the unique Ovation Patented Pickup, This professional-grade system has been engineered to complement the unique character of Ovation guitars. It provides that essential "plugged-in" sound and offers a range of features that will enhance your guitar playing performance in any venue. As the next design in the OP-Pro series, it offers the same great sound as the OP-Pro but also features a unique analog signal processor called an "Expressor" that brings new versatility to your plugged-in guitar performances.

I am a mere amateur player. Never owned or even played an Ovation until I bought this one. I liked the specs on paper. The built-in electronics are a big plus. The guitar feels great, and no buzzes up to fret 15 that I noticed. It has a brighter acoustic sound than my Alvarez. It sounds good through an amp and the bass/mid/treble controls allow you to shape the sound nicely. My only disappointment is that when recording onto a computer through the quarter inch jack I could hear the same noises I would if coming through an amplifier. That said, recording it with a microphone sounds great. Overall it's a great guitar. And the biggest surprise was that it has a built-in tuner!
I have many electric/acoustic guitars. I play them all professionally. I tried to find this Ovation 2171 contour GS guitar locally and came up empty everywhere I turned. So for the price I decided to take a chance. This is the only guitar I have ever purchaced without playing it first. After gigging with this guitar for about a month now, I can honestly say, The playability is priceless. The tones are amazing. And the craftmanship is second to none. I couldn't have bought a better guitar for the money.
I already have two acoustics (a Martin and a 70s Epi) but purchased this wanting a true AE setup and to try out the Lyrachord back. This model is a steal with the solid spruce (vs. laminate) top and good electronics. The neck is the thinnest of the three I own and is actually a five-piece neck vs the one-piece in the Celebrity model. It plays fast and is comfortable. It has average projection unplugged, with a tone closer to a mahogany body than one of a rosewood. Plugged in, the onboard EQ is very flexable and can be bypassed for amps or processors. Onboard tuner is useful too. The guitar looks better in person than on the site (the black looked cheap, but the inlays are pearl and look good under light). Good quality all around. No bridge pins to wrestle with (ball ends fit in the bridge). I'm very happy with the purchase.
I bought the 2171 to replace a Pinnacle Deluxe that the top had cracked on. I am an avid collector and the crack just wouldn't do. When this one went on sale the discount from list was too hard to ignore. When it arrived I was very happy with the finish. I chose the sunburst version. It needed a little set up tweek out of the box but I am very picky. The plus side features of this guitar are it's beautiful solid top, it's 5 piece neck is as straight as I have ever seen and it sounds really good plugged in. If you're looking to add an acoustic electric to your arsenal of axes without breaking the bank I recommend buying this one before it's discontinued or sells out.
