Comments about Parker Guitars RF722 Nitefly Radial Flame Top Electric Guitar:

It appears there is a contradiction between the picture on this item, as compared with its noted features. The pickups are two humbuckers, Seymour Duncans, range from jazz @ bridge position to higher rock potential @ neck position. Notes on the instrument seem to indicate that this has a single coil and humbucker, but looking around on the web a little further on Parker Nitefly series appears to show that their HSS configuration usually has the '522' designation (BTW, looks like a newer version was intro'd at this year's NAMM show is designated as the PDF series. It seems that these guitars have several levels, and I've been able to find PDF60, PDF70, PDF80, and PDF100 advertised at several retailers online).

In any case, the HH configuration for the Nitefly series, with a '524' designation, appears on other web sites as HSS configuration guitars, with even these entry leve linstruments having many impressive hardware features like locking tuning machines, nice pickups like Seymour Duncans, and the Parker tremolo system, which is different for me, but nicely engineered and produced (more leverage than I've had on a Wilinson bridge on a Strat-like guitar).

And then, with some confusion, I called up people here at musiciansfriend.com, and was pretty pleased with their responses. It's nice to talk with people vis a net connection, and find that they're interested, know quite lot, and want to help you. I felt that the people at this site were really interested, knowledgeable, and friendly; you can't beat that sort of combination, and sadly, you often can't find it in brick and mortar stores sometimes. BTW, and I am _not_ a shill for the company. But I do have a lot of brand loyalty (which admittedly has been limiting in lots of cases over time). Regardless, I was pretty impressed with the way my query was received by the person I spoke with here, and as we looked at different pats of this & other sites as he explained thigs, I was pretty impressed. And then there are the bona fides of the three people at the site's 'private reserve' here; they seem to have some pretty good creds as luthiers and pro shop type experts.

So it seems we confirmed that this model does indeed have a double humbucker configuration for magnetic pickups, in addition to a 6 part Fishman piezo p/u in the tremolo.

On another note (!-please forgive, no groans intended), the least expensive Parker guitars were both nice to look at, and at least as nice to play. I had begun with the lowest (PDF60) guitar, in Taxicab Yellow (not my favorite color, but the guitar practically played itself, but I found it at a used book store in my home town. But after owning it for about a week, I returned it - had to have one of Parker's better instruments I'd seen online. I don't just buy things and return them, but in this case it seemed pretty important enough. If such a fine guitar was available as the bottom of the line, then something within the middle of the range could be one of the finest guitars I might ever be able to get.

So I determined to switch up to the Nitefly series (don't have it yet, hope to w/in the next couple weeks). From what I've read and even videos I've seen on the web, they have truly fantastic features and hardware, thoughtful and inventive engineering, top notch fit & finish, and from the bottom of the line, I can say from firt hand experience that they play as well as or better than many more expensive guitars.

I hope you find the guitar you're looking for; we all have different interests and musical affinities. With this in mind, I generally try to step lightly when talking about something that someone else might really care for, even if I had at some earlier point dismissed a thing or a goal for my own purposes.

Cheers, and a Successful search to you.

    -Rick
