Comments about Peavey AT-200 Auto Tune Electric Guitar:
waited for this and I'm very disappointed, the guitars fine , but from the offset, the tone switch was faulty, the auto tune makes the guitar lack power and crisp crunch sound , in a analog it's fine, alternate timings apart from standard seem not in tune , takes a few attempts to hit say a drop d, I bought this as I get fed up with alternate tuning but , I should have just bought a standard guitar. I recommend it for a beginner
Pros
- Fun To Play
- Good Feel
Cons
- Poor Quality Craftsmanship
Best Uses
- Practicing
Comments about Peavey AT-200 Auto Tune Electric Guitar:
Ordered it and it came DOA! The pickup selector didn't function in one of the slots. The "auto" tuning worked great, except the tone was terrible and distorted. Something must have been wired wrong? The neck felt good, the action was low and the truss rod was adjusted spot on from the factory. I was sad to send it back because I was really looking forward to jamming with our band that weekend with it. I sent it back and decided to cut my losses and buy a regular guitar without all the extra circuitry to go wrong. I'm sure it was a fluke, but it changed my mind on owning one. I'd make sure you have a back up if your planning on playing out with it.
Pros
- Fun To Play
- Good Feel
- Quick Tuning
- Solid Electronics
Cons
Best Uses
- Jamming

Comments about Peavey AT-200 Auto Tune Electric Guitar:
I've been jonesing for this guitar since they announced it at the January NAMM show in 2012 and finally got one in November. I love it. It's light and the neck feels right to me. I've found many people who've gotten this guitar have complained about being slightly flat, but I've not had an issue.
Tuning is simple but it does require giving it a solid note to grab onto. You're still dealing with a processor and the old "garbage in, garbage out" axiom applies. I'll start by strumming open strings and tuning, then tune my strings individually at fret one since I play in Db standard and Drop Db. I've tuned it to B standard and even a full octave down in the bass range and it sounds pretty good. I don't recommend making the last one a habit because bassists tend to get a little upset.
The pickups that come with the guitar are a little hotter than other passive pickups (overwound according to the rep I chatted with) and I like 'em. However, with the system engaged, the pickups are bypassed and the piezo kicks in. This creates an obvious level difference. For the music I play (Youtube 'bombay black stand up' for a live example), I'm pretty much "guitar into a Marshall" and the piezo pickup doesn't have the oomph of the passives. I added a Super Overdrive pedal into my signal chain with the output up full and the gain set at 9:00 to increase the level and add some grit which solved the issue quite well.
It's still important to tune the guitar practically for feel. It's not meant for those who don't wanna bother learning the tuning process and you won't get the "T-Pain" effect. It's actually a very useful tool for live shows. I've had in at numerous practice sessions as well as a live show (1 so far, it's the end of the year, y'know?) and it's performed perfectly. Quick tuning changes instead of "Hang on a sec" and trying to read a tuner pedal. This is especially difficult for daytime outdoor sets and the AT200 takes that problem out of the equation. It does one thing and it does it very, very well. The guitar plays well and the system works great. Well worth the money you'll pay for it.
NOTE: I probably won't use it in the studio because there's something about those little variables: strings, fingers, pickups, environment... that add up to a great sound on a record. That being said, never say never.
