Knowing that the higher priced Wolfgang models will have better mechanical parts (tuners, etc.) I have lowered the quality rating to an 8. The value is at 8 since the price is comparable to many quality guitars on the market. Now for the good stuff - this is an exquisite guitar. While Peavey is primarily known for its amplification and electronics, this is a player's guitar. Sadly, it may not get its dues just because of Peavey's limited reputation in the guitar arena. The neck is exceptionally fast and playable. It has in no way hampered my playing and in fact feels very naturally shaped - whether attempting fast licks or dropping my thumb onto the E and A strings. The neck/body joint is fabulous. There is no obstruction when going for the high frets. While I shift hand position to reach the lower strings I have to make no physical adjustments to get around the joint - it's simply not in the way or even noticeable. Also, the guitar is perfectly balanced. There is no need to actually hold the neck up in playing position or to keep the headstock from diving to the floor. Whether sitting or standing, the guitar is light and with no extra effort needed to keep it in playing position - all my concern is focused on playing. The electronics are responsive and with only 4 options - 3 pickup selections and volume control - there's little to concern oneself with (on the guitar). Personally, I find the lack of knobs adds to both the function (simply less to fiddle with on the guitar itself) and the beauty of the instrument - there's very little interfering with the face. While on that note, the quilt top is stunning. I have the sunburst - absolutely beautiful, binding and all.Not being a tremelo kind of player, I still find the Floyd Rose responsive to a light touch as well as the dive-bomb approach. The locking nut/tremelo fine tuners hold well and allow quick and adequate string tuning.I've been toying with various styles on my Wolfgang - jazz, folk, metal - and find the guitar suitable for all styles. Whether using a pick or my fingers this is simply a playable guitar. While EVH has been out of the limelight for a couple of years, there is no better player to consult for specs. He has helped Peavey craft an excellent instrument.

I received my Wolfgang Special for Christmas and was disappointed with the finish on the neck. The advertisement clearly states that the neck is oil finished. It is not! It has a clear coat on it. The tone is great. The Floyd Rose patented hardware is very cheesy. The action was set a mile high. My chest is bruised from playing this guitar sitting down as the body is a bit awkward. Great for playing strapped and standing. Not sure if I am going to keep it or not. The 15 radius is great but the oil finished neck is something that I fell in love with at the music store and am very disappointed that this guitar doesn't have this feature as the advertisement clearly states. Bummed!

This guitar is a good deal for the money, but I was actually rather dissapointed with it's performance. The guitar comes with the action set ridiculously high and doesn't allow much space to be lowered before it dips down too far in the front. When I would go between E and D with the D-Tuna, the other strings would not stay at the correct pitch, no matter what I did. The D-Tuna would slide in all on its own when I did a bar dive in the D position. Maybe it was only my guitar that has these problems, but I sent it back because it was too frustrating to deal with. Other than that, the guitar has a great sound.
What have I been playing the last four years? I can't seem to remember since I laid my hands and money on the Wolfgang Special. This guitar is simply brilliant, And you are ready to go on stage right out of the box. This guitar definitely turns heads with the super smooth finish, the chrome with black accents hardware, the unfinished neck, and the sweet zebra pickups. Can't leave out the D-Tuna, it is so simple to operate, who would have thought? The tone this guitar produces WITHOUT the tone knob is mind boggling! no matter what amp you use. Try it, love it, buy it, love it, you'll never set it down. EVH along with Peavey created a monster and did a knock-out job. THANK YOU EVH!
I havent picked up a guitar in 17 years, Got a fantastic deal on a Blue EXP and fell in love!It feels better than my Strat did, sounds better too. Any good Amp will compensate for the lack of a Tone control. For the $$$ this is a Fantastic Guitar. Anyone that disagrees probably stumbled on a lemmon, (it happens).... I love my toyz but there wont be a Les Paul Flame or Strat on the wall till I get a few more Wolfies!!!!!
Well made guitar, with great pickups. The body resonates extremely well, it has great tone even when it's not plugged in.
I own over 50 guitars from elitists to gibsons and this matches most of them and it's cheaper! I like the floyd rose even though it's not good for alternate tunings. I take this guitar out all the time off of my shelf and it sounds great. I'm waiting for it to disappoint me, but it never does. I'm a gibson man, so I was trying to find something wrong with this peavy and I couldn't. I like that the guitar has no tone nobs.
I have been wanting to purchase a Wolfgang for some time. I have played them at music stores everywhere, and they were the best playing guitars ever. But the one I received had a neck problem that made the distance between the fretboard and the strings considerably higher at the pickup end.
Best sounding guitar in its price range, you cannot go wrong here.
If you want EVH tone this is it.The pick ups mounted to the body definetly give you the brown sound. The guitar feels small at first but the sound just takes you away, but if your not looking for the EVH sound don't throw away your strat, two guitars are better than one.
I love the way this guitar sounds. The features are fabulous and the looks are killer. This guitar is capable of some serious sonic mahem. Love it in every way possible. I look forward to getting the flame top version. Keep supplying the music community with killer equipment.
Sure it's missing the bird's eye maple neck and the carved top, but the neck is quick, the pickups are responsive, the licensed Floyd Rose is reliable and the D-Tuner WORKS! This guitar has all the right moves at a kick ass price!!!
